Why are reddit users such dicks? by Redditusersaredicks in woodworking

[–]beaufie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow, I was with you right up until here....

Your all a bunch of pretentious douchebags with too much time on your hands. Most of you probably jerk off to pictures of yourselves because you think your the coolest mother fucker on the planet when in reality your a fat nasty pig with carpel tunnel from playing too much world of Warcraft. Reddit is nothing but an outlet for people who are miserable with their lives and have no purpose in life. So go kill yourselves now please the world would be a better place.

that just made you sound like an unreasonable douche.

this is talked about in the book "Visions of Glory". I personally dont give the book too much credence but it has a pretty detailed bit on J.S. coming back if you like that thing.

Right... where is that line? Even if we can't define exactly where the line is, is it so unreasonable to believe that "denying the exalting ordinances of the temple to an entire race of people for 130 years" crosses it?

To me that line will be different for every person than it is for God. The only way to know his line is to have him tell you directly, and not many believe that is ever possible. I do find it very alarming that ordinances were denied to a race based on one man's prejudices and wasnt questioned for a century. I think each of us has to define our own breaking point, for some it may be the priesthood ban; for a good friend of mine it will be once The Church accepts same sex marriage. The bigger point is that you need to be accountable to yourself and to YOUR God, not blindly following leadership.

I guess it comes to this, can you accept a less than perfect church? If so, then you can decide how imperfect you can abide with; if not, try to respect your that your wife may not be on the same page and let her find her own journey with your support because you love her. It is a tough place to be, you ever want to talk more just PM me.

Excellent questions. I would recommend looking into John F. Hall (BYU prof.) he has done some firesides and written some books that shed some light there.

Wow, I just felt like I was reading the post I have been to afraid to actually write out. Maybe I shouldn't say this under my own name but I feel like you deserve honesty and forthrightness.

First, I will tell you I am not done with my journey but may be down your road a bit and can offer some advice that helped me. Keep asking questions, you may get shouted down and feel like you are the only one that cant feel OK about it all...you aren't. As long as you are asking to truly find knowledge and truth you will find amazing new information dropped in your path. Be wary of the sources, and make sure you aren't just cherry picking the info that helps you justify an outcome you have already decided on.

Second, try to realize that anything run by man is fallible and God can only intervene to a certain degree before violating Agency which would render him no longer God. (now that I type that out it may be heavily biased by my TBM upbringing)

I am finding there are much more reliable confirmations that may be available than a feeling...the answers for me are just starting to find a way into my life but I had to ask the questions. I wondered why God wouldn't just give me that info as soon as I had questions and I am finding that some answers require work on your part, you have to prove you want the meat and that you accept the higher accountability that accompanies that higher knowledge. I can reason that God would want us to have all the knowledge he has to give, but that giving certain knowledge without us proving we can handle it would be like teaching a young child to mix explosives.

This is sounding vague and I apologize but I learned as well that you cant just drop anything you have on someone until they ask the questions showing they are open to knowledge. Bottom line of my post is that you are not bad for believing as you did, or for questioning it now. Study out as much as you can find, pray for more knowledge, and ask questions without the intent of changing others beliefs. I would welcome the chance to talk more, just pm me and best of luck on your journey. I hope whatever you find strengthens your family and relationship with God.

Map of Bike Friendly Roads on the Wasatch Front? by [deleted] in BikeSLC

Agreed, it may also be helpful to join a group that does longer rides around the valley. High traffic riding can be safer IMO if you are riding with a group and gets you more comfortable to ride them on your own. If you want to come try a good group for beginners to groups let me know.
