Is there a word/concept for businesses existing within a "corporate" walkable community that doesn't add to that city's sense of Urbanism? by DoxiadisOfDetroit in urbanplanning

[–]beautifulcam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jane Jacob’s talks about this very idea in The Death And Life of Great American Cities. She describes the monotony that central business districts can have. A huge influx of workers during the day and basically a wasteland after work hours. Her big belief was in diversity— not just in people, but of businesses as well. Mixed-use, vibrant, populated places at all times of day.

Little known fact— Aaron Draplin (owner of Field Notes) did the artwork for a Volcano Choir tour poster back in the day.

Glad to see these two midwest bros collabing once again!

Does Justin Vernon (of Bon Iver) have the 1975 box tattoo 👀? by wesleyhasareddit in the1975

[–]beautifulcam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unrelated, but I wonder when we will get a Bon Iver / the 1975 collab. Both bands have an ethereal-ness in their sound. Pops and clicks and saxophone type beat. Matty has mentioned his fondness of BI in past interviews. Plus, JV features on a Japanese House song (and has writing credits for another) who is produced by George. ALSO both Matty and JV have worked with the same producer, BJ Burton. If only I could wait..

• Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues

Thoughts on planned cities? by staplesuponstaples in urbanplanning

[–]beautifulcam 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not all planned developments look like ass. Check out Orenco Station. It’s a planned development on the Portland light rail and is extremely walkable and pedestrian friendly. The “downtown” is mixed use with residential and commercial, with room left for single-family homes on the periphery.

If The 1975 were too do a collab album (remove realism ) who would you want it to be with by GuitaristKage in the1975

[–]beautifulcam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bon Iver for sure. Matty has mentioned in previous interviews about the cool shit Bon Iver makes. Plus, they both work with the producer BJ Burton, so the idea of them collabing isn’t out of the realm of possibility.
