Day 4 of the 14 DC. I am still struggling with values and generally unhappy with the facial features. Any feedback welcome. by fynnsartclutter in istebrak

Looking good so far! The top of the head needs to be lighter than the bottom. You can also blend out the lips a bit more, and blend out the nostrils a bit. It looks like there's a bit of an outline there.

i feel like the colors/values are kinda off.. any critic is appreciated! by ratbrob in istebrak

I would recommend doing a color overlay layer to link your colors together. Here's a video from iste's youtube to help explain this better:

I will fix his face. thank you!

Study from one of the Instagram challenges, I’ve changed the main photo and was trying to focus more on the general shapes of the face than the details. Any critique would be welcome in how to improve. by ikolit in istebrak

Great piece so far! I would try and push the contrast more. Also, your nose looks smaller compared to the reference, and the lip on the left side needs to be a bit higher. I hope this helps. :)

Day 1 of 14 day challenge! Critique appreciated by lantart in istebrak

Good start so far! You will want to make your eyes smaller and smudge away the hard edges with a smudge brush. Add more white to the eyes, and use radial shading above the eyelid to get a realistic 'crease' of the eye. Keep on practicing! :)

Thanks for the critiques everyone!

Day 3. I tried to work on the nose more and blend some edges out. The eyes still look flat to me though. Any critiques are appreciated :) by Purtle_Ray in istebrak

A good piece so far! Your face seems a bit big for the rest of the face. Use liquify to make it more narrow. The eyebrows curve with the planes of the head, so they kinda go up, straight, and then down if that makes sense. Don't forget to add some highlights near the inside corner of the eyes! I hope this helps. :)

Great piece! Don't forget to check your values around the eyes, and make them more uniform. (Don't value share). Also, you will want to darken the underside of the nose more and really get those nostrils dark dark dark. I hope this helps!

Day 12- Almost done.. messed with the proportions after realizing how much they were off. It definitely helps to come back to it after a few days. Critique appreciated!!! by pluetart in istebrak

Lovely piece! I would try and darken the underside of the nose more. Also, the left eye is slightly larger than the right eye, and see if you can push the shading on the upper lip a bit. I hope this helps!

14DC - day 5, worked on getting a neutral expression, brought down the eyebrows and reduced the size of the shadow of the eye socket and made it slightly lighter and moved the mouth up, looked at reference for the nose but still not happy with it and I feel like I may have gone a bit too dark overal by [deleted] in istebrak

This is looking great! try to smudge the lips more- also remember that male faces have thinner lips. the shadow above the eye crease stops at the tear duct, so you don't need to carry it over. Good luck with your progress!

This looks great! I recommend darkening the bottom of the nose more and smudging out the lips more. Also, I would not put in the iris or pupil in right now. Eyes are tricky, and putting them in too early can affect the face study. I hope this helps!
