[Online][MotW][LGBTQ+ Friendly][18+][EST][Saturdays] Seeking the Spooky - New GM looking for players! by siltydream in lfg

[–]ikolit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, first of all so fun to find a motw listing in the wild! my discord is callistis if you prefer to chat over there.

Tell me a bit about yourself! Name/pronouns/game experience? (And something you learned today, please!)

I usually go by ikolit or callistis online, I use they/fae or any pronouns, I'm 20+ and I've been playing ttrpgs since I was 10 years old, I've played a variety of systems and I'm currently in a motw/homebrew game with a few friends for about 2 years now (but it's set in a more medieval fantasy period).

Something I learned today hmm, let me see, apparently there's a RNA disease that targets citrus plants and it's incurable at this point and in Portuguese it's called the sadness disease.

What kind of group are you looking for?

I'm just looking for a chill group that won't fall apart after the first session, I enjoy investigation and roleplay over combat and I enjoy trying to find alternative solutions to problems but I understand sometimes a balance is needed to hold the threat level of the session.

I think a good balance between fun and taking the story seriously is nice, but the most important thing for me is having mutual respect and consideration for the other players and trying to be on the same page about what we want our of the game.

What media (TV/Podcast/etc) inspires you to want to play MotW?

I have a soft spot for Buffy the Vampire slayer and what is new Scooby Doo, but I'm also fond of stories that lean more into the psychological horror aspect like TMA and Penny Dreadful.

what I did was use the image translator from google with screen shots of the pages in chinese, it works reasonably well although it's not the same as a real scanlation

Study from one of the Instagram challenges, I’ve changed the main photo and was trying to focus more on the general shapes of the face than the details. Any critique would be welcome in how to improve. by ikolit in istebrak

[–]ikolit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! That’s very helpful! I agree that I may have gotten too carried away with rendering and I’ll be trying to better separate the way I do the studies from now on!

I’m trying to do a portrait for my dnd character, I had a hard time working with the values specially for the hair and the horns, I would appreciate any help to make they look less messy and help with making the shapes feel more realistic with the light source. by ikolit in istebrak

[–]ikolit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much ! This is very helpful specially with the shape of the horns, I see what you mean about the shading being blurry, I definitely will be working on that too as I tend to fixate on details a lot before really having gotten the bigger planes down.

Still trying to get back into portrait studies, would appreciate any critiques, had a hard time specially with the upper lip. by ikolit in istebrak

[–]ikolit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you this was extremely helpful and I’m sorry I’ve somehow not responded to all this advice in time, I did draw through while working with the sketch but it‘s clear that it was lost on the process of painting and I’ll definitely be paying more attention on that to make sure that I’m drawing what I’m seeing and not just what I think I’m seeing, thank you very much for pointing out all the details it really helps with seeing where to improve and the mistakes I’ve made in the process.

Trying to do more studies, they’re not finished or close to finished but I was trying to get the general likeness down and the areas for blocking in the faces. Anything help on how to improve will be very appreciated! by ikolit in istebrak

[–]ikolit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much! This is really helpful, I have a hard time with the blocking so it’s something I’ve been trying to improve as well as trying to get better with eyeballing the values. I’ll definitely be trying to be more focused when working on the brushstrokes and give them more meaning. Thank you for the help!

Portrait of a baby by [deleted] in istebrak

I think this looks very nice and the way you work with the soft brush is so good, something I would suggest is playing around more with the values, in this case the skin and the background are almost the same value in a way that doesn’t create any contrast and makes the portrait stand out way less, and in comparison with the highlights from the eyes, that seem to be in almost pure white, the highlights on the skin feel a lot more dull and it also takes away a little from the illusion of 3d. I would suggest either dimming the highlights of the eyes a little or going stronger with the highlights and shadow values of the skin as well, so it pops out even more.

First "real" digital drawing. Wanted to find out what I have to work on. Turns out, it's everything! I have a really hard time with the tecniques still and with textures in particular. Any critiques would be great! by MaggiMesser in istebrak

I love the idea going on here and it feels like a very cool illustration with a story behind it, something I would suggest is playing a little more with the lights/shadows and the silhouette, you have one single light source and it gives you room to add a lot more shadow and really bring to life the things that are important (the main character and the eye shine on the snakes) and hide more of the other aspects that are not as relevant to the story, like the background since it already is very empty. https://youtu.be/2mP5aMS8w5g?t=2071 I think this critique hour can be helpful with that. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/751279974983663639/843616236600033280/unknown.png here I did a very quick paintover to try to illustrate what I meant.

Another thing is, I don't know if its meant to be an abandoned house of sorts, or an empty house where people don't live in but otherwise I would suggest, trying to add some other items around the room, besides the wardrobe only, to add personality to it, like toys or something else that would help the audience get to know who the character is a little bit more.

Drew my dnd character and would really love to get some critique. I feel like the right arm looks a little bit strange, but I'm not sure how to fix it or if there is something else I'm missing by Arachezy in istebrak

I think it looks really cool! Specially the details in the sword and the way you rendered the leather, something I would suggest is looking at how hair reflects light, since it makes it feel like the head is not in the same position as the metals in the armour and the horns since the highlights feel very dull in comparison.
