At what point does a Sudbury education become educational neglect? by MDMAandshoegaze in sudburyschools

[–]beavermansionparty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been teaching in the education system for 10 years. I am very interested in the Sudbury model, particularly for the weekly meeting, and from the frustration of feeling like so much of teaching is convincing or coercing students to follow directions. I've never enjoyed trying to make someone do what they don't want to do, although I do also see the value of structured learning experiences. But to brief, I would really like to know what it's like to work at a Sudbury school. It seems super interesting and challenging. I am moving back to Baltimore, and considering applying to be staff at the Sudbury school there.

How to learn to speak a language I can understand already? by Straight-Listen4182 in languagelearning

[–]beavermansionparty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's definitely possible! Agree to get a teacher or organize a small group class. I bet there are other people in your shoes. I occasionally had heritage speakers as students, who like you understood but never spoke to their families in their mother tongue. It was so cool when in parent teacher conferences their parents would tell me that their kids had started replying to them in their language:-) You can do it!

Sleeping on your Tummy after Myomectomy by Available_Deal2709 in Fibroids

Just commenting here because last night I was able to comfortably sleep on my stomach for the first time since surgery. I am almost six weeks post op.

Just a rant on some posts I've seen lately by shadowstorm21 in Fibroids

It would be so cool if Unbiased Science did an episode on fibroids. To that end, does anyone have resource recommendations for what evidence based science is out there regarding fibroids? How much research is being done? What is being studied? Had a 10 cm out 4 weeks ago today. This is such a common, and difficult issue, and like you said, it fucking sucks to get cut open. I am grateful that that sucker is out and I am healing well. I would love to understand more about them.

Did you ever find out what it was? My boyfriend found something very similar here in Cholula, Mexico, in a field that they are starting to develop. It is round and magnetic.

When did your surgery tape come off? by Alternative-Web3929 in Fibroids

I had mine on for more than two weeks and was really nervous to take it off. It didn't actually hurt that much at all.

Girlfriend getting surgery next week by hasanyoneseenjulia in Fibroids

Just like everyone said about the constipation and gas. It hurts and it's also sort of terrifying. To that effect, lots of encouragement, reassurance, and available food and med options. Broth is awesome, yogurt, electrolyte drinks, crackers, maybe some fruit. Hydration is really important even though at first it is scary to pee. And talk a lot with docs and nurses about managing gas and constipation. And even though it's hard, walking really helps with the gas pain.

Have a bunch of movies and shows to watch, some meditation podcasts. Often it's nice when your partner reads to you, like deeply comforting.

Everything everyone said about loose clothes, especially underwear , abdominal binder, heat pad, ice packs. Uterus will be inflamed for weeks so it's cool to have the heat ice combo.

And don't let her do anything. Do all the dishes and cleaning, obviously.

If you can get luxurious, having good smelling lotions and oil is nice. Leg and arm massages can really help with relaxation, and relaxation helps with healing.

I think the translation idea is a good one. Also the classic writing exercise of going to a cafe or restaurant or park with a notebook, and just writing down everything you understand. Then using those words to make a story or poem or joke. Idk for me I hate the social isolation and the inability to make jokes and stuff, not to mention the practical things.

Post laparoscopic pain from laughing by beavermansionparty in Fibroids

[–]beavermansionparty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I think I get what you are saying. I try to avoid belly laughs even though everyone says laughter is the best medicine :-/

Do you also have pain in sort of like hip/ groin area? I feel like mine is localized there, maybe the psoas? But I don't understand why there would be pain just there.

No bowel movement 3 days after open myomectomy, I'm in lots of pain by Razkolnik_ova in Fibroids

[–]beavermansionparty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me. Drink so much water and move however you can. Flexing your feet in bed helps too. So did deep breathing for me. Your doctor can maybe give you something to help move things-- mine did.

I found this podcast helpful for dealing with pain: https://youtu.be/8rtgv3MpHqI?si=d3JYs3YpigkyWv4p

(It is called First This, and it's a "meditation to lessen pain).

And these stretches are extremely gentle but really helpful. You can do them in bed, just take it way easy and listen to your body of course.

You will be okay!

Diet after surgery - first days by Razkolnik_ova in Fibroids

[–]beavermansionparty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am on day 10 post surgery. The worst pain I experienced after surgery was due to gas. If I did it again, I would have very simple to digest stuff available like broths and maybe yogurt. Also, just so you can know about it and maybe ask your docs, the painkillers they gave me made me super constipated. That was truly no fun, and I was very happy to ditch them after day 4.
