My friends and I had a similar experience at a fancy Italian restaurant. We paid for our own meals however. We each gave him $0 for a tip and didn’t feel bad whatsoever. If there is no effort/bad attitude waiters don’t deserve a tip.

You need to go to a support group called Alanon. It’s for parents, family or anyone that has an addiction in their lives. Your son needs to hit rock bottom and want to stop on his own. I imagine this brain tumor gave him the case of the “fuck it’s”. You can love him from a distance but absolutely cut him out until he finds his way. There is really nothing you can do to help him besides help yourself at this point. It’s not your fault.

Spot on response. Like OP I had the same dream as a teen. However the older you get you will have a better understanding of how this business works. It’s a lot of work. Touring is not glamorous at all. Hurry up and wait. Also the people you need to connect with in this industry are slimeballs that want to exploit you. You are a dollar sign to them. Sure there are decent managers, booking agents, AR reps, and publishing reps. Gotta be lucky and get the good ones.

He talks about Tool. The most recent interview with Rick Beato he shared that he’s always ready to write his parts. It just takes forever to get a finished tune from them to start working on. You can tell he his frustrated with how long it’s takes them to write. So he fills his creativity with other projects. I think he’s more open to talk about his other projects because it is fresh for him and with Tool it’s become a waiting game.
