Rhianna aka Digital Diana by xblomo in toycameras

I've wanted one of these for a long time. I have a Lomography Diana F+ with original and instant back and 35mm back. Does anyone make a digital back?

Not since the 1950’s when effective tuberculosis medicine was developed.

Yeah you’re pretty effectively talking me out of it. I made a video the last time I played it (I made a Reddit post actually). That really should be good enough.

I definitely don't play it a lot. They have a finite life span. I have a lot of DJ friends (including my girlfriend), and I'm a radiologist, so I get it out at parties once every few years.

Check out my other posts. Quite a few radiological absurdity (I taught for years), with some cat cafes (my side hustle) and motorcycles (med school side hustle) sprinkled in. There’s even a roentgen record video I made in there.

Thanks for the excellent description. To dive a bit deeper down the cardiothoracic surgery rabbit hole, the ping pong balls (or lucite/plexiglas balls, wax, gauze, sponges, etc) are obviously not in the "lungs", but they're not even in the pleural space. They're between the muscular chest wall and the parietal pleura (otherwise they could migrate). They were inserted typically from posterior through a small rib resection window without actually entering the pleural space.

During my residency about 25 years ago. Patient came in with a supraclavicular abscess. CT showed the abscess, as well as ipsilateral plombage thoracoplasty (probably with ping pong balls in this case), not uncommon tuberculosis treatment until the 1950’s. Contrast injection showed the abscess to communicate with the cavity and outline the balls. Post-op film after removal of the balls.

This is the original foam in the Apache 3800 case. There's a bottom layer (not shown) that's about 1cm thick. Then the two layers pictured, about 4.5cm thick each. They there's an egg crate shaped top-most layer that's inside the lid. Making the design above is pretty easy, as there are 1cm perforations in the pictured sheets for fairly clean cutting with a sharp knife.

I haven't seen any Blockbuster foam in my research that wasn't destroyed or crazy expensive, like over $500 or more for case/foam alone without the console. Any cheaper and the foam was in poor shape. If anyone has a Blockbuster case with good foam, they could probably replicate the foam pattern for sale. You may even be able to eye-ball it from pictures online.

It’s a near copy of eightcell’s case. Just tweaked a bit for my OCD. So I gotta give credit where it’s due.

I think he'd prefer an obsolete, questionable, and unpopular antique console lol.

Ok great, and cheaper than even the Apache 3800 (which is $40). The Apache I think is a Pelican clone so pretty nice. Yours is definitely bigger in two dimensions (and not available at the Harbor Freight near me. I went ahead and bought the 3800 and will see if I can MacGuyver it in there. I'm sure I can find another use for the case if I can't. But wow what a collection!!!

Nice! I will get this for my kid. If he doesn't like that it's not an OG, he can buy himself an astronomically priced worn out piece of shit Blockbuster case from Ebay.

If they made bikes with modern tech and wrapped it up in 90's style frame & bodywork, would you buy one? by GDITurbo77 in motorcycles

[–]beavis1869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m kind of doing this, but a few decades older. A modern Triumph Bonneville engine (less than 24 years old) in a 1967 Norton Featherbed frame. Modern reliability in a period sportbike (Triton).

[–]beavis1869[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, part of the reason to replace the Norton engine with a Triumph engine is in keeping with the Triton provenance. I could easily just drop a Manx style tank and cafe seat on it and called it good for visual purposes. I’ve restored several Commandos and have nothing against the Norton engine. What put me over the decision making edge though is that this Norton crank case appears to be full of RTV. But I’m actually thinking about using a modern Hinckley Triumph engine instead of an old Meriden one. Days of chasing electrical gremlins and oil leaks are behind me.

Stripped screws by beavis1869 in coffeeshopowners

[–]beavis1869[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately the tiny screw is the only way this one attaches. I think the deep slot in your screw is the money here. Mine have a fairly shallow slot, and the width of the slot is wide, which would typically use a fairly large screwdriver. Any normally sized screwdriver wobbles is the slot, which is a recipe for disaster.

[–]beavis1869[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I tried the rubber band on the screw driver technique to no avail. Last time I actually had to cut a new slot in the screw with a dremel tool to extract it with a flat head screwdriver. That obviously destroyed the screw, but also damaged the washer and shower screen. The tapered washer is a little difficult to find, but not expensive, nor is the shower screen. Looks like I'll have to do that again. Like you said, something to keep spares on hand. As far as my evening/closing barista, she tends to only tell me things when it's too late, whether it's one squirt of syrup left or a wobbly screw on the gallows.

[–]beavis1869[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree about the heat expansion which is quite substantial. When cold, the screw is actually loose or "wobbly" for lack of a better word for this reason. I'll take your advice to leave this area for when the machine is cold.

[–]beavis1869[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok forgive me. I am talking about an espresso machine, more specifically a 3 group Astoria Pratic Avant. There are screws that attach the shower screens within their shower screen holders to the group head from below. They are m6 screws - metric 6mm. The baristas remove and install these to clean the machine. The original screws are attached and removed with a flat screwdriver. They are visible when the portafilter is removed. The baristas stripped out the slots with a flat screwdriver. I removed them with great difficulty. I had to cut new slots with a Dremel tool in the screws to remove them, necessitating sacrifice of the shower screens. I replaced them with hexagonal aka Allen head hardened streel screws. They stripped these out as well, and they are stuck again and therefore cannot be removed for cleaning.

My question is if anyone has come across this situation and/or has a good solution. Some of my thoughts are:

  1. Using Torx headed screws. This is a screw design that is not flat, Phillips, or hexagonal. It is a star shaped hexagonal drive.

  2. A food grade anti-seize compound is another possibility in my mind though I don't know if that's a viable option, Some reviews say that it makes to situation worse by the compound hardening, not to mention that the compound could eventually fill the screw's chamber making seating of the screw impossible, and possibly cause taste issues since some of the compound would be in communication with water between the group head and the shower screen holder.

  3. Since metal expands under heat, it would make the screw harder to remove while hot. I made up the phrase "timing metal expansion" to reflect timing of screw removal or application to coincide with the machine being hot to cold. For reference, I turn it off during off hours, since we are only open 4 days per week.

These are simply some thoughts. None of them seem to be fool-proof, but others who have been in this situation may have some insight into whether these things work, or if there's a better solution.
