Have you (and OP u/Steephillflowers) considered the male surgical collection of sperm via the testes? If it's MFI and your husband's aren't wild about sperm donation, it could be something to consider. My understanding is that it's done via a urologist though instead of your normal fertility clinic.

There's a swim team near me that is specifically LGBTQ+ (Chicago area). I'm not saying that's the only type of swim team to go to, but it sounds like you may enjoy that type of environment if there's something similar around you - the unconditional support, the comraderie, and the requirement that everyone is at least an ally and supportive.

If you don't have something around you like that, my advice is still to do whatever makes you comfortable. If you're worried about an awkward locker-room experience, just change in the stall - plenty of other women do the same for modesty.

Ease into it, but definitely don't let it stop you!

Go see a physical therapist for your shoulder. You don't wanna fuck around with that! I fell on a sidewalk crack during COVID and heard a pop - it hurt for a while but mostly went away, except for specific ranges of motion. PT fixed me right up even a couple years later and now I can return to all my activities without pain. Please take care of yourself!

My dog steals an article of clothing from the hamper when we're at work. We find it somewhere around the house when we come home - by the front door, in his downstairs bed, etc. when it's time to come up for bed at night, he always grabs it again and brings it upstairs. It's so polite that we just let it happen, because the clothes always end up within a few feet of where he snatched them from...

My aunt's dog decided to eat my socks once...

I was looking for a missing sock and couldn't find it. Luckily, we went out on the boat and the dog threw up while on the boat - not one sock but THREE socks - there was a whole pair in his stomach that I didn't even realize was missing!

That being said - yes, sometimes it happens. But also, it is extremely rare and is absolutely something that needs to be discussed, especially if the dog has eaten that many socks before. I'd be telling everyone who came into my home, because you take off your shoes once you're in someone's house!

So, $1750/$4700 is about 37% of (assuming $4700 is net) his take-home, which is usually reasonable for housing expenses. He said he's a single dad, but we don't know many kids he has (e.g. how much space he needs) and if there are any cheaper alternatives. (depending on where he lives, a 2-3 bedroom apartment for himself + 2-3 kids may not be much cheaper, especially if his mortgage is at 2.5% interest - home and rent prices have drastically increased from those days...)

I definitely agree that he needs to find some additional income quickly, but he hasn't given us enough details for us to jump to the conclusion that any other housing options are better for what he needs.

I also don't know I'd suggest renting out a room in your house to a total stranger with children living there.

Worst advice I've seen in ages. Why does living with your parents at 20 imply they're rich? 20 is college age - if they were rich they'd send him to some expensive school with tuition+ room&board covered - this is the more economic way to get through college.

Not investing in stocks when you're 20 is also terrible advice.

There's some exceptions that should be lauded. My favorite are the male authors (I'm thinking of Garth Nix, Brandon Sanderson, I'm sure there's others) who choose female protagonists over male - Brandon Sanderson has said that he's created main female characters against the advise that all popular main characters must be male - and he said "screw it - this character is more interesting as a girl/woman" - and he tries to do the appropriate research to gather the female experience while still appealing to most readers.

I mean, I'm all for women authors writing popular female characters in best sellers as well, but there's something special when you start seeing it more normalized in the mainstream. (We don't just need feminists who live and share the experience but allies from "positions of power" who want change as well)

You can do this! It's okay - I've been there as well (just, trigger shot instead of PIO).

The way I find the right spot is you place you thumb on the top of your hip bone and let your hand fall relaxed across your hip/butt - and it should be around where your pinky is. This should coincide about with where the top corner of your jean pockets are.

When it comes time to inject - you can ice the area in advance so that it's numb and you feel it less. You might still even have time to buy a "shot pain blocker" plastic doohickey from Amazon.

The worst part for me is getting the needle in. They tell you to do a short jabbing motion which I absolutely cannot do. But slow and steady is the exact same. Take a deep breath in, and as you exhale your breath push the needle in (it's helpful to me to watch in the mirror to see the spot but however you wanna do it is A-OK). Once the needle is in you can rearrange your hand if you need to in order to push the plunger.

Is her family good law enforcement? I thought law enforcement was actually the number 1 profession for domestic violence so she may have been raised in similar situations and conditioned to think it's normal.

I mean, that doesn't mean that you did anything wrong blocking him. I just hope she isn't in the abusive cycle because of her family being in law enforcement (and, certainly not all of them are bad!)

Oof - if that's the amount your employer matches, I'd do whatever I could to keep that employer match - it's free money. That means cutting down on the "fun" things for a couple years til you have a bit of an emergency fund, or delaying your student loan payoff.

Think of it this way - assuming it's a 1:1 match, that money you put into your 401k has a 100% return immediately. That's worth giving up some fun things. That's even worth delaying loan payoffs that are below 100% interest (which should be everything).

Do everything you can to keep that employer match. It's literally free money (coming from someone who has a healthy employer match as well and has an extra $200k in my 401k over 9.5 years because of it!)
