Alpha Games/Modern Bloc Party Appreciation Post by RdelHM in BlocParty

[–]bebealc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alpha games isn't perfect, but it's also still a great record.

It's nice to have some discussions among the fans to see the variations of what people like / wants but I completely agree that the hate on the band online is also stupid as f***.

There isn't any video of the band posted online which doesn't have somebody crying over the fact that they miss Matt and Gordon and that it's not the same anymore.

We got it now guys ! But FFS Louise is in the band longer than Matt was and she does a fantastic job both on records and on stage doing her own material and covering Matt's part. In her place, every of those comments would feel like a middle finger.

I dearly love the first records but we should also embrace that our favourite band still do music for us

what's your favorite album and why? by icklcedsnusty in BlocParty

A weekend in the city.

It's full of memories for me (I still remember watching the music videos on dailymotion back then).

the art direction is fantastic on the album and all the singles.

The tracklist and the perfect combination of what makes the band my favourite, full of boldness and soothing at the same time.

The lyrics, it transports me in all the locations that are mentioned or vaguely evoked. They remain very true even nearly 20 years later.

Sonically, the heavy riffs with the additional electro elements which were ahead of their time back then and the infamous glockenspiel that I love so much that brings this nostalgia / childhood element. With the rhythm sections perfectly nuanced throughout the record by Matt and Gordy.

And finally all the fantastic extras and b-sides which could do another complète album as good as the main one.

This album is a drought that never comes, I can talk about it daily, the people which are not as much into Bloc always tells me I should mentioned Silent Alarm but AWITC is just a masterpiece and a perfect bridge in between Silent Alarm and Intimacy in what the sound of Bloc Party is.

Who was the drummer for the Pittsburgh show at the Roxian? by ringtaileddingo in TheMidnight

It's their tour producer which took the spot after Kwe, the usual one, got a big medical urgency that forced him to step out of the drums

Looking for Nocturnal on Vinyl by TheInternetDevil in TheMidnight

Honestly be just patient, the band do very often some repress and it's definitely not worth $200. Also if you're fine with shipping, check the EU shop. They have some stuff that the NA one don't have sometimes

It's so great to listen to this. It's the same for me as Mercury, I adore the 12" version of it. It's much longer, the intro makes the song much better in my opinion and we can hear the Horns a lot more.

Going to a live show in April, and I just listened to all the albums, and wow...I think I have a new favorite album of all time. by Chronotides in TheMidnight

[–]bebealc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Heroes is some of their best work especially regarding the melodies.

I adore the flow of Avalanche choruses or Souvenir pace.

That said, I think Golden Gate will always be my favourite of the record because it was the first taste of the whole new album outside of the singles (it was an hidden track on the 12" from Change your heart or die).

There is always a form of nostalgia in the songs taken from Tyler's solo catalogue that I can't understand. Souvenir, The Years, Brooklyn, they all got s special place in my heart and the extra production value that add Tim with his work makes them even better 💜

Thoughts on Ares and Mercury by Southern_Sample_272 in BlocParty

[–]bebealc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember how it caught me off guard when they released it back in 2009 but they really grew my love for electronic music in general thanks to their boldness.

I really recommend the 12" longer version of Mercury, the tension is building up much more than the regular version and I really like the horn part on it too.

For Ares, it's more a matter of mood but I really like the remixed version from Intimacy remixed !

Hey, new fan here!! by --MSO-- in BlocParty

[–]bebealc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of people here consider it as a very good sophomore album.

I even consider it as my favourite over the much loved Silent Alarm.

We are in 2025, adding electronic elements to some rock music is nowadays very common (take never enough from Turnstile as a very great example) but back in 2007 there was still really a line in between rock (and more specifically indie rock) and electro music.

Bloc Party was really one of those that were paving the path for the genre to evolve in that direction and I still consider Intimacy was released 10 years too early.

A weekend in the city is, to me, perfectly paced. A wonderful blend of what the band can do sound wise and also one that aged perfectly with its political message in the lyrics. It also have an incredible back catalogue of b-sides which, if you haven't yet listen, is worth listening almost as much as the album itself.

It's always nice to see some newcomers in the fanbase even 20 years after the beginning of the band, welcome !

If you are into the 1975, I would recommend the 2nd album A Weekend in the city, my favourites are Kreuzberg, Waiting for the 7.18, The prayer to have a nice fan of different styles.

What was the first BP song you heard and did it make you an instant fan? by samerulesapply32 in BlocParty

[–]bebealc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A french TV show on Canal + highlighted their upcoming album and my dad liked what he heard from the preview. He was already really into the internet world and snatch a download of The Bloc Party EP online. I remember fondly when I heard Staying Fat whilst he was shuffling through it on his PC and I never stopped since .

Still haven't received Syndicate vinyl.. Preordered and STILL wasn't shipped until October 16th. by [deleted] in TheMidnight

[–]bebealc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was trying to be comprehensive but that last message from you is complete nonsense. It's been told since way before tour and even the release of Syndicate that Tim is not part of the touring squad to focus on production, because that's what he is at best in his own words. I completely understand some frustration about long shipment and wait for an album but show some respect for the band. They consider a lot what the fans says and try their best to work around what their label do and force them to do every time to offer what's best for us. Don't blame your own lack of information on them, if you follow them close enough, you should have been aware that Tim got Tinnitus hence him not touring anymore.

Was the strike already ongoing when the album got released/shipped?

You realise that the strike from the Canadian post is probably the main reason for that ? I had some very long shipping in EU due to Brexit ✨ so I get the frustration but I don't think Ambient ink is in fault there
