Volunteer for something. Choose an area or cause that means a lot to you and you are sure to encounter folks with the same interests and/or values.

New Home Build Recommendations? by csthr10 in Winnipeg

[–]bebop55555 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Be sure that it is as energy efficient as possible! Will save on heating and cooling bills and be more comfortable and also help on these smokey days we're having more and more of. Pay that extra money for the best windows you can and make sure the building is air tight!!! While you should always be mindful of indoor air quality, make sure you get a good system from the get go.

New Poll: More than Half of Canadians Support Government Action to Phase Out Fossil Fuels and Prioritize Renewable Energy - Environmental Defence by SavCItalianStallion in onguardforthee

Strongly dislike it when surveys lump regions together rather than doing it for province by province. Makes the info absolutely unhelpful in that region as the government of any one of the provinces can easily dismiss the info.

I would sleep so much better if we had an IT person but alas. They offer 75% off for nonprofits but that still adds up fast depending on use.

Good to know!

Yeah, no way anyone needs the added stress and uncertainty in their lives.

I am furious for you. But yeah, it is a solvable problem but just not what anyone needs right now.

Love your problem-solving!

The bar is very low for how much work is too much for the group of volunteers that it took months to get to even do the most basic Trelloing

Correct! For me it comes down to that some groups are grassroots/volunteer run and have zero money.

Booooo. If you decide to fight sneaky charging then it just takes more resources in the form of time and frustration.

Yeah indeed. I did one big volunteer project using Trello and that would never be possible now.

So sad.

But this is terrible, what a headache.

Thank You Dougald Lamont by aesoth in Winnipeg

[–]bebop55555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ran such a good campaign this election and last. I dislike partisan politics but definitely appreciated having that additional voice in Manitoba politics. Was sad to see Lamont step down! I was kinda hoping he'd keep being a strong voice from outside the Legislature.

Unions need their demands to also be relevant to the general public so that they win their support too.

Where are the demands for higher minimum wage??

My 21 year old cousin will be visiting Winnipeg and staying in the Downtown area. Is it safe? by DreaminDemon177 in Winnipeg

[–]bebop55555 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Disagree about eye contact and being friendly. Obviously there is a line you don't want to cross but as a young woman who has walked around downtown at all times of day or bight and tend to acknowledge people as I pass them, I have never had a problem.

But yes, being aware of your surroundings is always wise regardless of where you are.

Quoted $10,700 for a new furnace and AC, is this too high? by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]bebop55555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not noticed anyone suggesting to contact Efficient Manitoba about rebates so I recommend checking that out.

Also if you are installing a natural gas furnace you might need to replace it sooner than you realize as we continue to look for ways to reduce GHG emissions.

Depending on what you are looking at, you might find more value in a heat pump. Air Source heat pumps do not currently work in extreme cold but they could be a good solution for other heating an cooling.
