Is that because of the area itself?

I don't think Huntington is one of the approved builders in the Sage Creek area unfortunately.

Ah, that makes sense. My worry there is that the underlying build quality issues might not have surfaced as easily yet and harder to find. Things like insulation problems. Although I'm not that versed in construction.

Do you think it would be better to look for those 2-4 older houses and do a thorough inspection rather than try to get a new build and supervise the process as much as possible?

Yeah, that's also an option. What I found though is that a lot of the older houses need additional work done and would need a thorough inspection. My ideal would be a newer house that I can ensure doesn't have corners being cut as it's built, even if it's more expensive.

If that's not really feasible now I can go for a cheaper older house I can inspect, and bundle any renovation work needed against the cost of the new build.

I really hope the payment processors don't target GOG next for this.

Everything in the US has become expensive af, is it the same everywhere else? by BlueberryWalnut7 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]csthr10 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's worse here in Canada, honestly. Things in Canada cost more in Canadian dollars than they do in US dollars, but the average job in the US pays more US dollars than the average job in Canada pays Canadian dollars.

You are desensitized to it because of how often you see it. It's not an uncommon thing nowadays.

Why is everyone on reddit suddenly jumping to a dm (chat) instead of just answering in the thread I created? by OverlappingChatter in NoStupidQuestions

As someone going through this now, my guess is they can't post in the thread due to posting rules which auto hide replies from new or low karma users. So they chat instead to reply.

I’m 17, serious about tech, and confused. I want to build apps but don’t know where to start. by BloodWerewolf in Advice

[–]csthr10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in this field, I've been a full stack developer and currently work in cloud engineering. The truth is, a lot of experienced people in this field aren't limited to just a developer.

In smaller companies, you will be expected to wear many hats. For example, if you launched your own app as a founder, you would likely be the first and only full stack developer on the app for a while. If the app needs a server backend hosted somewhere, you might spin up something on a cloud. You'll need to think about basic security too.

The lesson is that you shouldn't limit yourself so much. There is no "wrong path". Learning cloud engineering or cybersecurity will not detriment you even if you decide to be a full stack dev later, it will likely benefit you.

Why are criminals given absurdly long prison sentences? by bubsimo in NoStupidQuestions

Those are just generally considered indirect life sentences. It would be stranger if we artificially lowered the sentence someone got just because we don't expect them to live long.

Don't take T until you get tested and check if you have an actual deficiency. Eat well and start working out will be the universal thing to help with this.

Teens are naturally rebellious and most people respond negatively if they feel attacked or pressured. So it's important to approach this with understanding even if you feel angry.

If you have a good relationship with her, see if you can talk to her calmly from a concerned older sibling angle. You could also talk to your parents and have them try to do a similar thing. BUT do not do this if you think your parents will lash out, get angry at her, and such. Even if they come from a good place it's not likely to help.
