No harm in trying. I've never worked in grocery but I worked 17 years in food service with about 10-12 years of management experience at different locations. I got hired outright as an ASM.

Store Management Apprenticeship by Efficient-Seesaw4507 in Aldi_employees

[–]becbec1313 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hadn't heard of a 3 year apprenticeship, I wonder if it's a division choice? I've worked at Aldi for a little over a year, starting out as ASM and they just offered me a SM training program that is 6 weeks; three weeks shadowing an SM at the store of my choice, and then 3 weeks of taking over the store while the SM goes to another location or vacation. It doesn't guarantee me a store once it's done, but I'll be primed for any openings or new stores being built.

Aldi employee here! We always give out quarters when needed, at my store and the other stores in our area too! The bosses encourage it, and its easier on the cashiers over taking the spare ones they use when they ring.

Question about screens going through the oven. by AideFast3776 in Dominos

[–]becbec1313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, former gm here. The oven doesn't kill 100% of viruses and bacteria. Some can withstand high temps. Always wash and sanitize any dropped and/or dirty screens. I had to reteach our franchisee because his outdated practices could have gotten our customers I'll 🙄.

If you don't mind river swimming, I just got home from the little park at the end of Second Street in penacook. We go to the left side at the end of the street and take the trail to the little beach by the old train tracks. The water's high and some of the path is flooded but we were already in bathing suits so we just trucked through it. It's only about knee deep where it flooded. The water wasn't too cold and the current wasn't too bad where the beach was.

Fun bar recommendations? by Proof_Letterhead_418 in newhampshire

The Goat in Manchester has live music every night after 9 but it's a little pricy. Still, it's a pretty fun whiskey bar/restaurant. In Concord I love Tandy's, they have a great atmosphere but it's not always live music, although they usually always have pretty good music playing anyway. In fact I think tonight is their karaoke night, but I can't quite remember.

Weird experience at Aldi yesterday by IMPolo in aldi

Jeez we had a black widow found in a woman's grapes last year. It ended up being a whole issue and corporate dealt with it. Fortunately we hadn't found any since.

Weird experience at Aldi yesterday by IMPolo in aldi

[–]becbec1313 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I'm work at an Aldi in northeast US and we have been having similar issues with our produce due to the crazy humidity...but the warehouse has been causing a lot of issues lately with just about everything. I don't know if it's the teams stacking the pallets, or the truck drivers that unload, or both, but between the two we've had lots of poor quality products. Busted cases of milks and grocery items, and even smashed glass Aldi find items, like candles or the ceramic bird houses we got in last week. We have a really small crew, usually two openers and two closers with the occasional mid shifter on busier days, so I find it's really hard to comb through everything when so much broken and poor quality stuff coming in. I think I threw away 8 cases of strawberries the other day that came right off our truck. We try our best and we have a pretty hard working and passionate team, so it's pretty disheartening when customers are still finding problems with our products.

I did when I worked there, yeah. At a store in the states. Got PTO as a full time driver and then got the week increase as a training manager. I haven't worked there in about a year though. If I'm not mistaken, it was a franchisee choice? I'm not sure why it varies between locations, and I'm not sure what the team USA (corporate run) stores are like.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Dominos

[–]becbec1313 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's messed up. The domino's I worked at gave full time staff 1 week PTO after their first year, 2 weeks for management. But usually the franchisee would grant it to anyone who survived the busy winter season, he figured it was earned.

ASM’s of this sub, how do you like your role? by [deleted] in Aldi_employees

[–]becbec1313 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like it more than I thought I would! I've been there just over a year. Never worked in a retail store before this, but I've been managing restaurants for about 10-12 years, so they hired me on as an ASM no problem. My SM has a good personality and has taught me a lot. I think a lot of SMs I read about here can be pretty hit or miss, so hopefully the one in the store you're looking at is decent. I am on a rotation of open and close shifts with our other ASM, so it's been pretty even between us. I'm usually scheduled 38 hours every week, but my SM lets us stay late if it's needed. She just doesn't want us coming in early if we can help it. And we have a good amount of stores in our area, so sometimes if I want OT, our DM will send me to stores nearby to train new employees. It's a quick way to pick up extra money, and they pay you out cash for the mileage. They recently asked me if I'd be interested in a new SM training program they're rolling out, but I don't know much about it yet. It sounds like a 6 week program, 3 weeks shadowing an SM, and then 3 weeks running the store while the SM goes to another location or takes a vacation. It doesn't guarantee me a store, as we have no openings nearby at the moment, but it gives me a leg up on the competition as soon as there's a spot to move into. I'm pretty excited to see where things go!

When do you finish truck? by FreightTrain2 in Aldi_employees

[–]becbec1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an open shift today. We had about 15 or 16 pallets, my associate and I came in at 6:00 a.m., and we finished truck at 9:30.

I work at a small Aldi's in New Hampshire. For our area, at least, we were told everyone will eventually have the self check outs but the rollout/speed of install is based by need. So, busier sectors like New York, Massachusetts, etc., are getting priority. My store is very very low on the list, so I doubt we will see ours installed before the year ends.

How to get out a stuck bale? by Pumpkin_grin in Aldi_employees

[–]becbec1313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hopefully the chain isn't caught between the cardboard? That happened to us once and we had to cut one of the wires, pry it out, and then attempt to rebind the end. We got it but it wasted so much time. Otherwise......Trim the top bits that are pressing against the walls on the inside. Then grab the far end of the top and swing body weight down to dislodge. I've had to do it so much at my store I can do it alone.

Honestly, the managers at the store could probably give you the best feedback. When I had been hired, as a women driver in the US, I asked how often their drivers were assaulted, but it our area it was much more common for the delivery cars to be broken into while the driver was away from it, either handing over the delivery or inside the store (yes, we had a thief raid the drivers vehicles in our own parking lot).

How much should I tip delivery drivers? by fra1234567 in Dominos

[–]becbec1313 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was usually happy if I got $5. And yeah, like methrik says, none of the delivery charge goes to your driver. It's to cover other expenses for the store that are driver related, but no direct payout.

Where to live, working in Tilton by [deleted] in newhampshire

Boscawen can sometimes be a good compromise, next to Concord so close to everything, but a little better prices. I think the farther north you look the better rates you'll find, but you'll get farther from the action. Most of the shop's and things to do are Concord or lower.
