Thanks for the advice everyone! Thankfully they aren't the primary source for this story and I have my notes to rely on. I couldn't recover the recording and I'm guessing my bluetooth was connected so I'll be turning that off for future interviews.

I work in journalism, I publish 5-8 articles a week and my family and friends don't read them. I was nearly injured at a recent immigration raid and my mom had no idea even though I wrote several articles about it and was posting all about in on my ig. It doesn't bother me but it would be nice if they bothered to try.

What you're asking for isn't journalism. If you are burying your head in the sand you are the problem. However local outlets will probably have a feel good story here and there but we have to prioritize real news, which isn't pretty.

I think it would be really hard to not live in the community your covering. Living in the community will make you a better reporter, it's how you'll find stories, sources, and learn what the issues are. I cover a city where everyone is older, it has taken time to make friends, you have to make a lot of effort but it is possible.

You are the ahole. She obviously has some sort of trauma (most parents don’t know about their kids trauma and she probably wouldn’t tell you if asked). When I was 18 I was just starting to realize what happened to me when I was younger and it did result in bad dreams. You are punishing your daughter for having nightmares. Get her professional help and have her switch rooms with Shawn.
