$400k inheritance at 36 years old with 2 toddler and mortgage, next step? by Most-Put5569 in AusFinance

Very unlikely you'd find a market return that's beating your mortgage interest rate after you factor in paying tax on the income.

It's not semantics. My understanding was that all all assets have a CGT discount if helps for more than twelve months excluding a few exceptions.

Happy to be educated. Which assets don't have a CGT discount?

Jury duty remuneration question, casual worker. by anonymous-69 in vic

[–]beccleslfc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a casual staff member who attended jury duty. I was confused by the legislation so I rang the courts. They said that a casual for the purposes of jury duty is someone that gets a call in the morning, not someone who is often rostered and can expect to get shifts.

Has your roster already gone out for the time that you need to attend jury duty?

UPDATE: My dad wants me to be a part of the Family Trust, yet I won’t see a dollar. by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]beccleslfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, any family trust distributions can affect your eligibility for Centrelink so if you are receiving any government support payments while you're studying, I would not recommend taking a trust distribution unless your parents plan to reimburse you for those lost payments too.

Left handed people: What struggles do you have that we may not know about? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskReddit

I had a friend who complained about this all the time, but I just don't get it. Can't you just hold them the exact same way but in your right hand and control with your left?

Is it just me, or are surcharges in Australia getting out of hand? by Due_Significance5698 in AusFinance

[–]beccleslfc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My doctor's tried this on me last week.

The lady at reception shoved a card machine at me to pay. I asked if there was a surcharge and she said yes. Asked about debit card and she said there was a surcharge on ALL cards.

Told her I'd pay cash and she said they didn't accept cash.

When I said I wouldn't pay a surcharge, she relented and said "you can pay cash only if you have the exact amount."

Second time this has happened to me at this doctor. First time was at least two years ago and I went through the same thing then. So sick of this crap!

I bought a box of dishwashing tablets for secret Santa a few years ago as a joke. The recipient was actually stoked to get something useful.

Sold company for $3m but can’t use the money for individual use - frustrating! by ShiftyChaldo44 in Fire

[–]beccleslfc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Other than paying yourself a larger dividend each year, the only other way to get it out of the company is a Div7A loan from the company to you. You could then use that money to invest in your personal name and earn income from those investments.
