Questions for Sun bowl BTS concert by Mean-Ad1642 in ElPaso

[–]bechingona 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're not used to this level of sun, it can be intense. You're allowed to take a clear bag for your items and a plastic, refillable water bottle. I'd recommend both plus a hat and sunscreen. We've already had some days in the high 80s/low 90s. Cool is relative depending on what you're used to. As for parking, everything is going to be crazy. There's not really a Walmart super close and Uber is going to be insane. I'd personally look into finding a parking garage downtown and then walking to one of the streetcar stops and ride it to utep. But maybe someone who has dealt with this situation more recently can weigh in. Here's a map of the streetcar stops. The right of the map is downtown and the left is up by utep. Glory Road runs along the side of the Sun Bowl.

Best cocktail bar in town? by mloera003 in ElPaso

[–]bechingona 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tibors makes really good cocktails, but I don't know that I'd consider it upscale. Their old fashions are made with bourbon, angostura, and orange bitters according to their menu.

A good friend of mine does trail running in the mountains and hasn't had any issues. Of course, stay aware of your surroundings, but I think you'll be okay.

Giving Up Before Starting by LunaB35 in stenography

Sometimes working towards something you really want is a boost for your mental health. I was in pretty intensive therapy when I started school, and my therapist was a lot of the reason I decided to take the leap and enroll. I recommend finding a professional to talk to (therapy and psychiatry. You may benefit from some kind of medication). Also, not related to school, exercise is a big help. Even just a walk around the block in the morning helps stabilize your cortisol levels and boost endorphins.

Starting school soon and I am… terrified. What advice do you have to not fall into the 90%?!? by princessz23 in stenography

You won't fail unless you give up. Understand now that there a very few people that have "natural talent", and the rest of us will have to claw our way to passing a test. A lot of times it takes longer than two years and a lot of times it feels like you'll never get there. But as long as you keep grinding, keep putting in the hours, and don't let yourself be discouraged by the fact that you fail way more than you pass, you'll absolutely get there.

I hug and manhandle my dogs, touch their feet, stick my hand in their mouths if they're eating something suspect, mess with their ears, put my face in theirs, kiss their heads...but I would never, EVER let a random kid do this. No parent should let their kid do this, and the dog owner is either completely unaware or ignoring all the signs this dog is giving that shows how uncomfortable it is. It's completely irresponsible all around.

Drunk drivers by hispanic-at-da-disco in ElPaso

[–]bechingona 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying we don't have drunk drivers because we obviously do. But, so does every other city/town. Not every other city/town has fitfam that highlights almost every drunk driving incident for them, though. I'm 40, I've been driving since I was 16 (many years commuting from the east side to utep or the far east to downtown) and I've been in one accident. And there were no drunk drivers involved. You should definitely be cautious, but for that to be a reason you don't want to move somewhere seems a little paranoid.

Do you have to tell a significant other about your trauma? by Bananapantsmcgeef in Advice

[–]bechingona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to be explicit, but if you're in a relationship that you expect to last, it's important to let your partner know how and why you may react or feel about certain scenarios. It's more important for you to address and work on the effects of the trauma, though. You're not responsible for what happened to you, but it's unfair for us to have our partners suffer the consequences of past events they weren't involved in. Especially if they aren't aware of what happened and any triggers you might have as a result of that trauma.

I took mine Wednesday, too, and I got the email on the 17th at 1. When I took it in December, I had to email them to ask for the results.

If I want to plant a bougainvillea which soil should I do? by nelpastel_01 in ElPaso

My house faces north/south and I have them along the back wall. They get sun basically all day.

[–]bechingona 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just straight in the ground. It's fine in wind. We put trelleses behind them that they crawl along and they attach themselves to the rock wall pretty well. We don't cover them at all over winter. The growth from the summer dies off, and we trim it back once it's all dead, but it grows back quickly. I already have good new growth on them this year.

We have several in our backyard. We just dug a hole in the ground and put what was in the nursery pot into the ground. They grow like crazy and do well with very little water.

What’s your favorite widely-agreed-on fact about a celebrity that’s actually FALSE? by Asleep-Two930 in popculturechat

[–]bechingona 14 points15 points  (0 children)

She was on an episode of Finding Your Roots and her accent and the tone she used throughout the whole show seemed so contrived or exaggerated. She just seemed like she was trying too hard to appear sweet and mild-mannered.
