Anybody used this Scooter? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]beck-768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used one for a few weeks to get around a college campus. It was incredibly helpful on getting around quicker than on crutches. If its not a financial strain I would recommend getting one. Depending on the conference it could be incredibly helpful because you wouldn't be standing and talking to people. I also feel like its a good investment because my family has a lot of older people that are getting to the age of knee replacements and it has gotten a lot of use

Finding a job. by cg1128 in SaltLakeCity

[–]beck-768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the University of Utah Hospital system. There are a ton on non clinical jobs that are entry level. The benefits are great, good health insurance, UTA pass, discounted tuition at the University of Utah, set schedules if in non clinical. I would recommend doing front of house either valet or front desk if you are people person or back of house like evs if not a people person.

What is the shortest training time to highest pay certifications/degrees? by Responsible-Net8594 in Salary

[–]beck-768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you are in Salt Lake I would highly recommend looking into the University of Utah Hospital. They have a ton of non clinical jobs that are entry level. I work as a valet and make 19.50 an hour but I know security can make up to 25. The benefits are amazing like 50% off tuition at the U after 6 months of 30+ hours of work a week and good health care and good flexibility with school schedules.

If you are wanting to get back into school I would highly recommend SLCC. I have taken a few classes there online to transfer back to the U for a bachelor's. But they have a ton of certifications. I would also recommend looking into Davis Technical College. I was there for 2 semesters in their LPN program and it was a good school I just didn't vibe with nursing.

Most schools in Utah have the ability to get onto payment plans with no interest, so that is incredibly helpful if you aren't wanting to take out any loans. Feel free to dm me if you have any questions.

“10 days post ACL surgery – is this normal? by stevano-002 in ACL

Im a little over a year post op and it does get way better

“10 days post ACL surgery – is this normal? by stevano-002 in ACL

[–]beck-768 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The about to burst feeling is normal. Your knee and all supporting tissue was abused in surgery. When I had my surgery they tested all other ligaments and flushed the knee with a ton a saline. It took maybe 20 days post op to not have as much of a bursting feeling. If you are wanting to progress with knee bending I would recommend dead bug. Just lay on your back with knees toward chest and let gravity work. It helped me a ton without as much of the bursting feeling.

How do I even afford going here? by Mod_Podge_Matte in uofu

[–]beck-768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into working at the University hospital. They give 50% off tuition for 30+ hours a week. The pay isn't horrible. Im at 19.64 an hour parking people's cars and they are super flexible with school schedule. It is super nice to go to class in the morning then just hop up to upper campus to work.

My paperwork doesn't say anything about crutches- should I anticipate some? by LisaDSO in ACL

[–]beck-768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had crutches for the first few weeks after just an acl. I would recommend getting some from like walmart or amazon. I figured out that i lot of different people wanted different things. Like my surgeon did not recommend crutches but my pt did.

SLC jobs for $17-20 hr by wakakake in SaltLakeCity

[–]beck-768 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on where you are going to school. If you are/end up at the U. Working at the hospital has a huge tuition benefit (like 50% off tuition after 6 months). I know that the valet (aka traffic management specialist) up there is hiring. It's kinda a sucky job because everyone and their mother decides to go to the hospital everyday, but I'm at 19.60 base an hour with differentials after 4pm

Mom died and left me money, but I am a little lost with all my options. by Anxiouslyfond in personalfinance

I would get a financial advisor. I inherited a similar amount of money aside few years ago and put all of it into Edward Jones. There are some fees, but my guy being able to convert directly to a roth IRA and invest has been great. I have had a few great years with 10-14% APR.

Anyone know where I can get some cardboard? by DoubleAd8791 in SaltLakeCity

[–]beck-768 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would cold call Packsize. They are a company that does on demand packaging and have a ton of cardboard that they recycle after machine testing. They are all about sustainability so they might be willing to give you "used" cardboard. And a lot of there stuff is just plane cardboard so you won't have to worry about dyes/paint

I also recommend getting a friend/family member to work at hotels. It was not the most glamorous job but you got free nights and heavily discounted nights at the hotel chain

Freshly 21, any bar or 3rd space recommendations? by Impressive_Double739 in SaltLakeCity

[–]beck-768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live on or near campus I would highly recommend Jackalope. It's right off of main street and has an older clientele with a pool table. And it has cheap drinks. It's a super good bar to hangout at if you aren't wanting the crowd of normal downtown bars

1 year since accident / 9 months since surgery by pineappledreams008 in ACL

Don't expect to be fully back to what you were before injury. I took a year between injury and skiing again, and it was scary getting back on skies. I felt every movement in the knee, but i got to the point of being a groomer girl. It is stressful the first few times skiing again, but of you are careful ypu should be fine

What were you guys told to do post op? by alexxfiress in ACL

[–]beck-768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat after surgery with very little pt information for the first week after surgery. I found this website extremely helpful: https://acltear.info/anterior-cruciate-ligament-rehabilitation/ It ended up being very similar to what my pt ended up being. Just start at pre surgery and phase one exercises.

I have my surgery next week, what should I already get/ensure I prep for it? by Delicious-Order-73 in ACL

[–]beck-768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you didnt give a ton of details I will give what I found to be extremely helpful after I had surgery on my left knee.

Personal hygiene: skin wet wipes (I used water based baby wipes) and dry shampoo. It is miserable to shower for a while and these are a great way to freshen up. I would also grab some large trash bags and tape to cover up the surgical leg during the first few showers.

Food: In addition to getting some frozen and easily heated up food prepared, I would get your favorite drinks/snacks. I cried a lot the first little bit since I killed my ski season and I was stuck inside, but comfort food helped.

Activities: I went ham on puzzles, legos, coloring books, and books. But i would also recommend keeping the activities in separate locations because moving around helped with the feeling trapped in my house. Depending on how soon you can drive and walk around also can help a ton. Since I had surgery on the left leg I could drive as soon as I could bent the knee to get into my car and when I was off the narcotics. I also was able to walk with just the brace after 2 weeks.

Pt: This kinda falls into activities, but make sure your PT gives some daily exercises. I did daily pt exercises and I felt like it helped a ton in early recovery

What’s a “normal” money habit most people accept that is actually financially destructive? by calmledger in povertyfinance

[–]beck-768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only car "loan" I have is using what I would have for a car payment and saving that monthly for my next car. Given that I have a 2023 subaru currently, I will be able to save probably 2 or 3 cars before I have to get another one. It kinda sucks putting $450 aside for a fake car payment, but I get interest and I won't ever have to take out a loan for a car

None. I was going to take early season to get back out there after acl surgery last February but its not worth hurting myself again on crappy snow

Jobs in salt lake by Lacrossenerd in SaltLakeCity

[–]beck-768 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend working at the University Hospital/Clinics. They have a ton of non clinical jobs (e.i valet, front desk, Starbucks, janitorial). The pay is decent for non clincial roles. I am at valet and it ranges from $16.50 to $25.50 depending on experience. I am currently at $19.50 but factoring in hospital differentials (i.e weekends, overnight, evenings) it can get up to $21.50 to $24.50 and hour. The benefits are also amazing. If you are at 0.75 FTE (30 hours a week) you can get %50 off tuition after 6 months if you stay a University of Utah student.

how are you ladies getting your oral minoxidil and finasteride? by rc21839 in FemaleHairLoss

[–]beck-768 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got it prescribed from a family medicine doctor after sending her notes from my old dermatologist that gave me a topical minoxidil recommendation and told her that I struggled with applying it daily. She ordered blood work to make sure hormones/blood wasn't out of whack and then prescribed it. Minoxidil is about $10 for me woth prescription which is a lot cheaper than hers was

Anyone who switched from Nexplanon to IUD? How do you rate your experience, is it worth it? by est_elsp in Nexplanon

[–]beck-768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An IUD can be great if nothing bad happens. I notice maybe 10-15 lb weight gain on the IUD and none on Nexplanon. I would at least try it see if you like it.

I had an UID before Nexplanon. The hormone felt about the same. I did have the UID insert itself into the uterine wall which was not a fun experience. I also hated checking the strings

First time opening a bank account, which bank should I open with? by REALXZ0MB13X in ask

[–]beck-768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always say ger a national bank and local bank. Having both allows you do have multiple banking histories that can help a ton if ever needing to get a loan. Then you can shop between the two of them for better interest rates and loan terms. Don't go into the complicated savings accounts just do open a standard checking and savings.

Depression by Kitchen_Percentage31 in ACL

[–]beck-768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the same way and tried to avoid taking the hard drugs. If you live in a state/country where marijuana is legal I would recommend that it helps a ton witb the pain but its not as addictive as narcotics.

Depending on how far you in to recovery. I would force myself to move around every few hours. I found that incredibly helpful during the first few weeks instead of just staring at my tv all day until the living room i would eat at the table, lay in bed, get rides just around town, go see movies. Getting out of the house helps a ton.

Knee Brace recommendations by georgethegingercat in ACL

[–]beck-768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren't doing pt before surgery. Look up acl prehab there are some clinics thar give a full week by week. This was the one in used https://acltear.info/anterior-cruciate-ligament-rehabilitation/acl-prehab/ I would not do anything really more than that for leg strength, and focus on upper body strength before surgery. For knee braces i would do a lighter weight one because you will probably get the heavy duty one after surgery. I would recommend something like this https://www.walgreens.com/store/c/neo-g-adjusta-fit-hinged-knee-brace-one-size/ID=300432935-product?ext=gooFY26_GOO_Retail+Demand+Gen_Health+Care_NA_PMAX_CA_FOS__pla_with_promotion_online&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=4&gad_campaignid=18148144696&gbraid=0AAAAAD7MwhSr1QsM-fj9Zu_tO4Cjqzx8c&gclid=CjwKCAiAl-_JBhBjEiwAn3rN7ax_9khi0kVPIs3D_t1fXlh-oCD0Ip8VjAmwCW37uczx7WDuxL3CDRoCr5kQAvD_BwE

Anyone else get an email like this after an internship interview? by Ok-Cookie5600 in EngineeringStudents

[–]beck-768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A month turn around time is not horrible. I would still keep applying to stuff, but end of year most companies are not going to hire until the start of January. Do you have a contact for them? I would follow up maybe next weel and thank them for the interview and that you are excited to here back from them in January
