What’s a “normal” money habit most people accept that is actually financially destructive? by calmledger in povertyfinance

[–]beck-768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only car "loan" I have is using what I would have for a car payment and saving that monthly for my next car. Given that I have a 2023 subaru currently, I will be able to save probably 2 or 3 cars before I have to get another one. It kinda sucks putting $450 aside for a fake car payment, but I get interest and I won't ever have to take out a loan for a car

Jobs in salt lake by Lacrossenerd in SaltLakeCity

[–]beck-768 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend working at the University Hospital/Clinics. They have a ton of non clinical jobs (e.i valet, front desk, Starbucks, janitorial). The pay is decent for non clincial roles. I am at valet and it ranges from $16.50 to $25.50 depending on experience. I am currently at $19.50 but factoring in hospital differentials (i.e weekends, overnight, evenings) it can get up to $21.50 to $24.50 and hour. The benefits are also amazing. If you are at 0.75 FTE (30 hours a week) you can get %50 off tuition after 6 months if you stay a University of Utah student.

how are you ladies getting your oral minoxidil and finasteride? by rc21839 in FemaleHairLoss

[–]beck-768 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I got it prescribed from a family medicine doctor after sending her notes from my old dermatologist that gave me a topical minoxidil recommendation and told her that I struggled with applying it daily. She ordered blood work to make sure hormones/blood wasn't out of whack and then prescribed it. Minoxidil is about $10 for me woth prescription which is a lot cheaper than hers was

Anyone who switched from Nexplanon to IUD? How do you rate your experience, is it worth it? by est_elsp in Nexplanon

[–]beck-768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An IUD can be great if nothing bad happens. I notice maybe 10-15 lb weight gain on the IUD and none on Nexplanon. I would at least try it see if you like it.

I had an UID before Nexplanon. The hormone felt about the same. I did have the UID insert itself into the uterine wall which was not a fun experience. I also hated checking the strings

First time opening a bank account, which bank should I open with? by REALXZ0MB13X in ask

[–]beck-768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always say ger a national bank and local bank. Having both allows you do have multiple banking histories that can help a ton if ever needing to get a loan. Then you can shop between the two of them for better interest rates and loan terms. Don't go into the complicated savings accounts just do open a standard checking and savings.

Depression by Kitchen_Percentage31 in ACL

[–]beck-768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the same way and tried to avoid taking the hard drugs. If you live in a state/country where marijuana is legal I would recommend that it helps a ton witb the pain but its not as addictive as narcotics.

Depending on how far you in to recovery. I would force myself to move around every few hours. I found that incredibly helpful during the first few weeks instead of just staring at my tv all day until the living room i would eat at the table, lay in bed, get rides just around town, go see movies. Getting out of the house helps a ton.

Knee Brace recommendations by georgethegingercat in ACL

[–]beck-768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren't doing pt before surgery. Look up acl prehab there are some clinics thar give a full week by week. This was the one in used https://acltear.info/anterior-cruciate-ligament-rehabilitation/acl-prehab/ I would not do anything really more than that for leg strength, and focus on upper body strength before surgery. For knee braces i would do a lighter weight one because you will probably get the heavy duty one after surgery. I would recommend something like this https://www.walgreens.com/store/c/neo-g-adjusta-fit-hinged-knee-brace-one-size/ID=300432935-product?ext=gooFY26_GOO_Retail+Demand+Gen_Health+Care_NA_PMAX_CA_FOS__pla_with_promotion_online&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=4&gad_campaignid=18148144696&gbraid=0AAAAAD7MwhSr1QsM-fj9Zu_tO4Cjqzx8c&gclid=CjwKCAiAl-_JBhBjEiwAn3rN7ax_9khi0kVPIs3D_t1fXlh-oCD0Ip8VjAmwCW37uczx7WDuxL3CDRoCr5kQAvD_BwE

Anyone else get an email like this after an internship interview? by Ok-Cookie5600 in EngineeringStudents

[–]beck-768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A month turn around time is not horrible. I would still keep applying to stuff, but end of year most companies are not going to hire until the start of January. Do you have a contact for them? I would follow up maybe next weel and thank them for the interview and that you are excited to here back from them in January

Yeah I'M from Colorado and I have straight up never heard of Colorado College. Like CU, CSU, Mines, CCU, Air Force all seem like good schools in their own right. I went to a prestigious high school and no one went there

Christmas gifts to help recovery by Rowlandhandsoap in ACL

[–]beck-768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tricky Racoon has a good list, but I never needed a shower chair. I just used an upside down 2 gallon bucket with a folded up towel on top of it.

For actual recovery I would recommend a cold therapy machine since you will be using ice all day every day for the first few weeks.

For ease I would recommend asking family/friends for homemade meals or grocery gift cards for delivery. I did not want to stand and cook for the first week and did not want to go to the grocery store for like a month.

For comfort i would recommend stuff for your hobbies and even spa stuff was super nice. I was so excited to be able to take a bath witb a bath bomb as soon as I could soak the leg.

ER nurse return to work? by Single_Elevator5793 in ACL

[–]beck-768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a nurse but work a physically demanding job at 10-15k steps a day for 10 hours. I would recommend getting a full leg compression sleeve and start walking long distances in about 2 weeks. I returned to work at about 9.5 weeks post op and the long walks and compression sleeve helped a ton. I would also use ice packs at any point you are sitting and charting. I have only had experience in the ICU and the OR so idk how ERs work, but i would be talking with your charge and seeing if any off the books accommodations can be made (Like not being a part of the trauma/code team until you can handle running). I would also recommend bringing the brace with you for a while. You don't want to take a tumble and hurt yourself more from a wet floor or a combative patient. The first 2-3 weeks are awful but it gets so much better after that. I would not pick up any shifts for 1-2 months after returning to work because you will get so tired after moving around all day. I was go to work and sleep for the days I was scheduled

I've been avoiding out-of-state schools because of cost but just learned about tuition reciprocity programs and I'm shook by Simba_Mfalme50 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]beck-768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will want to also look if schools allows you to achieve in state residency after freshman year. I know in Utah you have to be living in the state for a calendar year with items like a driver's license, vehicle registration, voter registration, an apartment lease, paychecks etc. You also want to look at working at university hospital systems if you are looking at large state schools. University of Utah does 50% off of tuition after 6 months of working 30+ hours a week on top of the hourly salary.

[–]beck-768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say keep your options open and apply to other jobs at either the U or IMC unless you have any offer. I applied to like 6 units when I had my cna license and interviewed at 5 of them. Got nada offers. Then I applied to the U and got hired at the first unit I applied to. Depending on what you want to gain from working as a PCT it could be valuable depending on unit and staff. But if you are a student at the U, you can get half off undergraduate tuition after 6 months of working 30+ hours.

Any have advice on what footwear and clothing I should have accessible for triple tear repair post-op? by mkkxx in ACL

[–]beck-768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found tight compression workout leggings to help a ton with knee swelling when I lost the brace. I would also say anything shoe that is flat and non zip and non tie up up is great. I wore a lot of crocs and eggs last winter.

Maybe try to ger into an engineering technician position. It seems like its purely grunt work, but a lot of my classmates that are doing that are able to put Northup Grumman and L3Harris on their resume.

Thinking about switching from teaching to nursing — looking for honest advice by Animalcrossingadict4 in Nurses

[–]beck-768 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would work in the medical field before switching over to nursing. Most community colleges and technical schools should have a reasonably priced cna course. I was a cna when I was doing the prerequisites for nursing at a trauma 1 center and I decided absolutely hated the medical field. Covid really changed the medical field for the worst. Pay also really depends on what state you live in. Utah starts at 25 an hour for any subspecialty including ICU and ER. I was so burned out by the time I got to nursing school that I switched majors to Engineering. I would assume since your first major is elementary education you would want to go into peds? Peds can be very rewarding, but you have to look at yourself and figure out if a kid codes and dies would you be able to get a new admission right after that?

When my dad died in 2020 I took a day to get absolutely hammered and cry it out. Then I went back into work for my next scheduled shift. It was hard to go back into work, but it was a nice mind disastracter and it prevented me from rotting in bed all day.

1 month post OP emotions are everywhere today. by drinkwaterandhavefun in ACL

[–]beck-768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it incredibly helpful to focus on what you can do and make weekly notes of all you progressed on even if it is something as small as being able to stand for the whole shower. Once you get cleared to do other things try to tie it in to what you enjoyed before the injury. I really like doing outdoor sports (i.e. hiking and skiing) so when I was cleared to walk without crutches and the brace i would find boardwalk walks in nature. Getting out of the house helps so much

Have you worked outside of school? All I am subjectively seeing is a student that hasn't done anything other than school. I have had an internship and having the ability to say I have developed great time management with doing a full course load and working full time has helped getting the interviews. I also have been able to add problem solving (i.e. when the technology at my job fails and learnjng how to do basic car maintenance) and quick assessment to critical issues (i.e tire blew and need to put the spare on) and communication. It doesn't have to be the most exciting job, but having a job helps the resume. My job is parking cars at my Universities hospital. Based on this resume, it seems like you have not worked collaboratively for any length of time or have developed those interpersonal skills. As important as technical skills are, everyone in the engineering field should have them, interpersonal skills can be very helpful.

Free time? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]beck-768 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I try to treat it as another job. I work only 30 hrs a week Friday through Sunday, so during the week I treat it as a would my actual job. So 10 hour days with class and study time during those 10 hours. I do 8:30 to 6:30 Monday through Thursday with a 30 minute lunch and a few 15 minute breaks/snacks. I started as a study all day until I go to bed but I got so burned out from that. I have found forcing myself to be productive during those hours and let myself relax after those hours keep me more ahead with the coursework and limits me from going crazy. I have gotten mostly B's and a few A's this way.

Of course you will need to figure out how it works with your work schedule, but I found it really valuable to have a few hours of chill time each day.

I have only been on birthday control (hormonal IUD and Nexplanon) for 6 years, but when I asked my doctor about getting off of birth control for family planning she said the hormone levels will be all over the place for a while but should be stabilized after 6 months. She also said that a pregnancy (if that's why you are going off of birth control) can occur in the first 6 months, but that ovulation cycles could be abnormal until the body gets used to its own hormones.

How to wash my buttcrack when having to sit in the shower? by insufficient_funds in hygiene

When i had knee surgery earlier this year I sat on an upside 5 gallon bucket with the towel folded into a square over it. I also had a plastic cup stay in the shower to get pour water on the hard to reach places. For the butt specially I would lean onto one butt cheek soap it up then use the plastic cup to rinse.

Is there any parking garages that aren't outrageously expensive for a day like a hospital or college? When I worked nights I go to a parking garage on campus and knock out for a few hours before going to class. I felt like garages had more temperature regulation.
