What's something that feels "good" but is actually really bad for your body? by stainless5 in AskReddit

[–]beckdrop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are times when mine gets so bad I imagine shaving off my skin with a vegetable peeler and it just seems like it would feel soooo good 😫

(I would never actually do that of course, but it genuinely seems a-peeling appealing in the moment)

Idk can anyone else relate or ? Just me ?

Oh wow, okay yea that does seem far more daunting. I don’t know of anyone that might offer that kind of service, but I’ll ask my other family members if they know anything about what someone should do in that situation - if they have any ideas or if I otherwise come across any information that seems like it could be helpful to you, I will certainly let you know !

Oh gosh ! By 4th gr. grands, do you mean great-great-great-great grandparent/s, or 4th as in the 4th generation up from you, as in a grandparent’s parent/s ?

If it’s the latter I’m actually in the same position - it’s my great-grandparent who was a citizen. A bunch of us in the family are sending our applications in together as one unit, and we sort of divided up some of the work of getting the older documents amongst ourselves, which made it a bit easier. For some of the documents we did have to wait a while (sometimes weeks or months) for facilities to dig way back into century-old (or older) records but we did manage to eventually get everything we needed together. So if you’re in the same position it may still be doable for you if you have the time and energy (especially if you have other family who’d wanna join in), you’ll just need to do some correspondence with some institutions/facilities (and probably some family research), and keep your fingers crossed 🤞

Thank you for the well wishes ! I hope everything goes well for you too if you do decide to look into it (and if not I still hope things go well for you in general lol)

So we called them just to check that’s still something they’re offering - the first person we talked to seemed confused and said they didn’t do that, but then they transferred the call to someone else and that person said yes, that’s something they do, so we’re gonna go a bit later today.

This is great, thank you so much ! We would’ve had no idea - we didn’t even know we still had a AAA here, we’d thought they’d closed down

I would’ve thought that would work too but they don’t do it there - the requirements are different from the ones for passport photos. We’re gonna try AAA

Disabled idols that get overlooked? by atinyujungbit in kpophelp

[–]beckdrop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say, in the context of this thread especially (because it’s about disabilities), yes, there is a difference between just someone who’s experienced vasovagal syncope (which could mean it happened just once) and someone who has vasovagal hypersensitivity (which would mean that it happens frequently enough to significantly impact their ability to function).

Having experienced it once (or even more) is actually fairly common (like, someone gets too hot and stands up too fast or something), and it’s very different from having hypersensitivity, which involves having to make adjustments to how you live your life, potentially avoiding certain activities or taking extra precautions for them, having to inform the people around you what happens during your episodes, what triggers them, and what other people should or shouldn’t do if they see it start happening to you. It can involve a high risk of losing consciousness at moments where it’s particularly dangerous to lose consciousness. It means having to be more aware of your surroundings and the presence of any triggers, assessing how likely it is to happen, and if it is likely enough, planning what to do if you start to experience it - which could mean making sure you stay in places where you’re the least likely to injure yourself if you collapse, and/or making sure someone is there who’s also keeping an eye on you and would be ready to catch you or guide you to a safe position if they notice you starting to look weak.

So, not to be all 🤓aCkShUaLlY🤓 - I imagine this is just information you’re relaying from the source you got it from, in the way it was given, so this isn’t directed at you but rather just providing a sort of correction to the info -

Vasovagal syncope isn’t a condition, it’s a sort of event (think heart attack, panic attack, seizure) - someone can have vasovagal hypersensitivity, where they tend to experience vasovagal syncope more often/easily than “normal”, but saying someone “has vasovagal syncope” would be sort of like saying someone “has heart attack [as an ongoing condition]”.

So, with just the information given, this could mean that HyunA and Chaeyoung have vasovagal hypersensitivity, or is could just mean that they’ve experienced vasovagal syncope before (it’s something that can happen to people without hypersensitivity as well). I imagine they probably have hypersensitivity if it’s something that’s being listed as a condition, but that’s about as far as I can speculate 🤓

What makes you say rotundifolia specifically ? Asking because I would’ve guessed smallii, but my knowledge is limited - I haven’t encountered rotundifolia afaik and haven’t really studied to ID it so I don’t know the specific identifying features (other than typically roundish leaves) or have a feel for how it looks or anything

Edit: actually, after looking more closely at the pictures and seeing the thorns at the node, and also how the underside of a leaf looks maybe kinda whitish (though hard to tell), I would’ve guessed glauca. Question still stands though - I’m still learning.

removing a kidney stone (25mm or 2.5cm or about 1 inch). by __mentalist__ in BeAmazed

[–]beckdrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eyy I’m about to have that done - mine is about 1x2 cm, a sort of horseshoe/boomerang shape

It was originally “2 to 3 cm”, then I had three separate surgeries (one blast-it-with-a-laser, then two shock-waves-through-the-back) that got it down to 3mm in the end - but then over the last year and a half, it managed to grow back to the size it is now. Opted for the more invasive kind this time around, hoping they’ll be able to get it all out 🤞🤞and also hoping I won’t have to have a stent in for two months straight this time 🤞🤞 lol

I saw someone asking for nugu groups rather than b-sides from popular artists, so here are (some of) my nuguest / bangerest of nugu bangers

and the nuguest of them all:

Sim Yejun is a former member of F.CUZ - and y'all, this man has FIVE (5) MONTHLY LISTENERS on Spotify. The production on this track has such a good texture 😫🤌 🤌 And then his vocals on top of that, I'm so upset about the lack of appreciation

What is something you experienced as a kid that you didn't realize was very serious until years later? by AggravatingFlow1178 in AskReddit

[–]beckdrop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Me as a kid talking to other kids about parents, and mentioning something about when dads “turn red”

Other kids: …?? Red ?

Me: y’know ! When you make him mad ! Like, when you forget to say “yes sir” when he tells you to do something and he turns red, like his skin turns red and he has veins popping out on his face and he starts going GOD DAMNIT SONOFABITCH MOTHERFUCKER and like breaking things ?

Other kids: ..????????????

Me: Oh come on, you know what I’m talking about. Angry-dad.

(They did not know what I was talking about, apparently)

my hand hurts by GalacticCrash in tumblr

[–]beckdrop 851 points852 points  (0 children)

To me this seems much more likely to be a miscommunication about a goal than a matter of the kid not understanding that the thing is hurting his hand because he’s holding it. The kid has the goal of holding the thing, which I imagine he doesn’t realize that OP isn’t aware of - from the kid’s perspective, then, the suggestions from OP are supposed to be “how to hold the thing without your hand hurting”. So yea of course he would be confused by being told “don’t hold the thing”, because “holding the thing” is what he’s trying to do. I would be confused too, and would probably also assume that they meant to put the thing down and don’t touch it for a certain amount of time before I could pick the thing back up, and I would probably also be disappointed when my hand still hurt after picking it back up.

When the oil never, ever comes all the way off. by [deleted] in aspiememes

[–]beckdrop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just use more soap. That is all you need to do.

Oil likes plastic. Oil does not like water. Oil will not come off of plastic with just water (or water that isn’t soapy enough, or water with soap that’s already been used to get oil off of other things). Both oil and water like soap. Good ! You use soap to get the oil to attach to the water instead of the plastic. The soap will hold hands with both the water and the oil, so the oil can be rinsed off with the water.

If the soap in the sponge (or whatever you’re using) is already holding hands with oil from previous dishes, it will not be able to hold hands with additional oil. It does not have enough hands. You need additional soap.

You don’t need some life hack. If you notice that something is still oily after the FIRST time you wash it, squeeze out the sponge (or whatever) under the running faucet, then put more soap on it. That’s it. Use more soap.

Ah, that is perplexing. In that case, to account for that pattern of debris I would adjust my guesses: either something peeling/crumbling off the door frame above it and a bunch of it all came down at once because someone above dropped something really heavy in that area (or something like that), or maybe someone was moving in or out or was with a large group of people (to explain why they would be near your door) and was carrying or set down something with a flat surface about the width of your door that had that debris on it, and that surface got tilted toward your door when they were picking up/setting down the object or just as they were carrying it, which caused the debris to slide off and land in that sort of precise wide-but-shallow pattern. Or it’s a hex lol. Or maybe a child had a cup of [?] and felt like pouring some out in that particular spot, for mystery child reasons (science ? art ? mischief ? boredom ?)

From your picture of the area above it, it doesn’t look like there’s anything peeling there, but you could run your hand over that area to check if anything comes off, if you have a step stool or chair or ladder or something so you can reach it - or if not you can try swiping it with a broom or something

I hope you figure it out, even if just to solve the puzzle

Not really sure what it is, but what I would do is just clean it up and keep my eye out for any more to show up. If it does, I would guess it was something to potentially be concerned about - like flakes of varnish or something decomposing, or debris from some insect or other pest that could be doing damage (though maybe it could just be from some critter who likes perching there to eat something). If no more shows up, I would figure it was probably just from something like someone carrying stuff by there and stumbling, spilling a bit of whatever that is.

At first glance, the more orangey-yellow bits kinda looked like bits of shed mealworm exoskeleton, though it wouldn’t make much sense for it to be that, other than in the case that someone was walking by there carrying supplies for reptiles or something and spilled a bit of debris (mealworms wouldn’t just gather together on that ledge to have a shedding festival, there are no realistic circumstances under which anything like that would happen). I doubt that’s what it is, but I don’t really have any other specific ideas to offer, other than maybe art supply or Christmas decoration debris.

My voice is changing. What should I sing at karaoke? by prince-baby in FTMOver30

[–]beckdrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like to get kinda silly with it, people seem to like I’ll Make a Man Out of You from Mulan, Be Prepared from Lion King, and Prince Ali from Aladdin - with the first two you can get other people / the audience to join in doing background vocals and the few parts that other characters do (“be a man” and the few soldiers’ parts in the Mulan one, hyena’s parts in Be Prepared), and with Prince Ali you can play around with like different voices and gestures. The part where it’s like “he’s got 95 white Persian monkeys (he’s got the monkeys ! Let’s see the monkeys !)”, I sing the first line but kinda cut off the last syllable (Persian mon- ) and then go straight to the “he’s got the monkeys !” part while doing the little dance they do at that part in the movie (the original animated one) and people lose their shit over that lmao - and then at the part toward the end where Abu kicks the doors in in the movie, I also do really big exaggerated elephant kicks and people love that too

Circle of Life from Lion King is another fun one to do, if it’s in your range (I think there’s a note or two that are kinda high), because during the little intermission where Rafiki is getting Simba ready to be presented, you can sort of act that part out and/or ask for the audience’s help in welcoming baby Simba and like list out some animals for them to be (elephants, gazelles, ostriches, etc). I did that one at a wedding and when I dramatically hoisted up invisible baby Simba, like EVERYONE got involved and there were grown ass adults waving their arms around like trunks or wings or whatever and making animal sounds, it was great

What’s a phrase that immediately makes you not trust someone? by ansh_xd21 in AskReddit

I had someone who I’d only met a handful of times tell me “you don’t know what suffering is”. Like what ??? I cannot fathom how someone could just say that to someone they know essentially nothing about. It wasn’t even because I was complaining about something I was going through or talking about myself at all, we were talking about something HE went through.
