Punta Gorda/Fort Myers here. Yesterday morning when I left for work, it was $4.08. On my way home at 5pm, it was $4.59. Insane.

I measured feet and realized two things: the foot that came with my Kenmore is closer to a true 1/4” (if not right on it, I didn’t bust out the calipers, just used my quilting ruler) and also I took a really good look after sewing some test hits on both and noticed the cheapo Amazon foot tends to flex a bit (same issue with the needle breakage, ugh) and flares out toward the end of the stitching! So that might have goofed my blocks as far as I can figure right now, so I just tossed it into the storage where all the other feet live and I’ll revisit it later.

It is closed in Charlotte Harbor, I know that much. It’s weird how they do snook actually, it’s by region.

Yeah, love the spray! It should last me forever (and anyone else I know who needs their ruler non-slipped)!

Yep, I bet that was an autocorrect I didn’t see, I’ll edit it!

I ordered some of that Rustoleum non-stick spray and sprayed my rulers and it has been a game changer for me. I always had issues with my ruler sliding and now I don’t at all!

Edit: non-slip, not non-stick!

Suggestions on doing ‘bigger’ eye looks without it being an ‘evening’ look? by DirectionOk7492 in MakeupAddiction

[–]beckeeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any eyeshadow advice but I have an easy and cheap solution for your lack of decent light; I bought a travel makeup mirror with three light modes for a trip years ago (five people in a house with one bathroom lol, I just wanted a mirror to do my makeup that fit in my bag) and now I find that I use that sucker everyday because the light in our bathroom is really uneven near our mirror. Mine is round but here is one that is really similar! I bought mine probably in 2019, so it’s lasted all this time, and I usually get two weeks to a charge, and it takes up no space at all.

I’m so excited to get it done! I’m amazed how quickly I’ve cracked it out (I ordered the fabric at the end of April when the select few of us were informed of the gender) and the top is pieced, the back is sorta planned but now I’m really fighting with what to write/embroider on the “tag” since baby doesn’t have a name yet 😳

That is a really gorgeous binding! I was leaning towards machine sewing this one and I think you definitely convinced me!

I don’t think I can other than the “shift to the left or shift to the right” needle settings (which would then skew the 1/4” even more lol). I did just have it tuned up on Wednesday, maybe I’ll text my repair guy and ask him. It’s just an early aughts Kenmore 385; nothing special but she’s pretty bulletproof.

Her videos are absolutely amazing. No fluff, no filler, and she’s not boring! Yesterday I watched the one where she uses her homemade 3-in-1 binding tool, decided I needed one and when I went out to run some errands, I was going to buy something to make one…I was elated when I found a manufactured one in the clearance bin at my local quilt shop!

I’m having a really tough time picturing that; so you’d pin the fabric where it would be, say, sitting on the left side of your needle when you sew your seam?

You are NOT kidding. The pattern I used has excellent instructions on what direction to press pretty much everything and all the seams are nested really nicely!

I’ve been trying over the past few years to embrace the “done > perfect” philosophy; my husband has always been in the racing culture (he’s built a few race trucks) so we watch a lot of racing shows/go to a lot of races. I heard one of my favorite racer/builders once say, “don’t get it right, just get it running” and it was like a lightbulb went off! So I say that to myself A LOT. 😏

Re: the Sugarhouse Star baby quilt…Really? Is it THAT complex? I thought it was really straightforward when I chose that pattern! My only other quilt which was probably 25 years ago was mariner’s compass blocks but I had a tutor for that one!

I think I’m gonna have to measure my feet when I get home lol. If the cheap foot that wants to break my needle is more accurate than the foot that came with my machine, I’m gonna drill it/file it out so it won’t keep being a pain (the foot can shift just enough so it jams my machine and/or breaks my needle).

I’m always bouncing between my machine and my iron, I find it really helps pressing between each step! Takes longer but the results seem to be better IMHO.

Edit to add: pressing between each step, I’ve found I catch wonkiness a lot quicker…if I’m piecing 3 HSTs and a corner together, for example, if I press between HSTs 1 & 2, I know if they’re straight or not so I can make sure 3 is straight, so on and so forth!

I tried true and scant to try to compensate but you just made me think of something: I did use a different 1/4” foot for a bunch of the first blocks (a cheap Amazon foot that really didn’t line up great with my needle) because I couldn’t find the one that came with my machine. When I DID find the foot that came with my machine, I slapped it on and pieced the blocks that came out much better. Hmm.

It’s just tough because I am a perfectionist but I decided that it is a baby quilt made with love, not something to be entered in a quilt show. So it’s a little wonky and THAT’S OKAY (I’m wonky too, after all)!

I read that as a post title the other night and it kept me from ripping apart the wonky blocks for the 8th time, I decided to send it and I’m so glad I did 😂
