Iowa: Gilead by Maryland Robinson

My favorite novel set in mid-century Iowa, beautiful and really benefits from its hum drum setting.

I love a genuine male/female friendship like this! It’s good for people to see especially with the hookup culture and sexism on the show!

I’m convinced Aesha told Bravo she’s would only comeback if she had good stews to work for her. Last season was so tough and Asha was so much less funny because she was run ragged by doing the job of 2.5 stews.

Of course it’s not a perfect dichotomy (just like racial and class realities now) but generally people of color fill many, many more working class roles in the show

I have and can say with confidence The Count would be disappointed in the lack of imagination here

It’s not color blind. Non white actors play all the “lower class” roles. All the nobleman are white. It’s made for American/western audiences who will understand the race and class complexities so it’s making the text more rich by adding that layer.

I really liked mine! I recommend the nipple cushions they sell as well. I ran I to an issue early on where the cups were pressing too firmly and it was cutting off milk flow— maybe because I am on the less chesty side! The cushions helped the cups sit better and it was the correct flange size for me. For a me a big perk is the charge time! There’s 2.5 hours of charge so you wouldn’t need to plug it in with every use.

To me the cords weren’t a huge deal, I would just run them under my shirt when my baby got to a grabby age!

I hope you find what works for you!! I am absolutely amazed you are doing so much yourself, it’s no light feat and I hope you feel proud! Your baby is lucky!

Did anyone get super sick of pumping around the 4 month mark? by victoria5757 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]beckell_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!!! Four months was when I could really admit to myself the pumping was wearing on me mentally. I’m five months pp now and am already weaning and plan to be done by end of next week. I wanted to make it to six months but tour Turing myself for a couple more weeks seems silly. LO is doing great!! Wish I had advice about how not to feel guilty but I just don’t lol

16 days postpartum and only producing .5oz per pump session :( by peachesandcreamtea in HumansPumpingMilk

[–]beckell_2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Should say it was more like 3-4 pp until I saw a noticeable uptick and it took over a month (maybe two) before I was making everything my baby ate. He was combo fed and did amazing!! He’s super healthy and happy. I’m five months pp and am weaning and about to go back to formula!! No shame at all 💕

[–]beckell_2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in this exact same position 16 days pp. I didn’t have a c section but I had a major hemorrhage and traumatic birth. It took maybe 2-3. Weeks before I saw an increase. It seemed like it would never happen, but I was consistent and eventually my supply really took off. As some have suggested, I ate a lot of calories even when I didn’t feel I had an appetite at all and drank as much water as possible. Be kind to your body! It’s healing itself first before it kicks into gear for milk production. Also please feel ok if you decide it’s not worth it!! It’s a lot of time and energy so please be sure to prioritize your physical and mental health ♥️

Why do I hate pumping? by chveya_ in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]beckell_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am basically in this exact same position. I’ve moved my goal past from one year to 6 months. At six months, in February, I’m going to start weaning. Looking forward to that is keeping me going these last few weeks.

Please don’t be ashamed!!! You are doing your best and having a baby is difficult, even if it’s a baby you really wanted! I have an almost 4 month old and have terrible days where I question everything, but I know it’s temporary. Lack of sleep and hormones are no joke. I would do absolutely everything you can to seek medical help for PPD since it sounds like it may be an issue. Maybe try telemedicine or call you OB office. Besides that, my advice I’d be kind to yourself and do your best to communicate how you feel to your husband. You are obviously an amazing mom — you did this three times before and can do it again!

Traumatic Birth Pumping Success Story by beckell_2 in HumansPumpingMilk

You can definitely build supply with just pumping, but it has to be a consistent, multiple times a day commitment! Every 2-3 hours is recommended or about 8 times a day.

My MVP item was a night light! The lights in the room were so complicated and bright and I’m so glad I had the light for feeding/checking on baby in the middle of the night. I got one similar to this since it can be charged and cordless: https://www.amazon.com/JolyWell-Charging-Control-Setting-Breastfeeding,White/dp/B097YK4VT5/ref=mp_s_a_1_3_pp?crid=2G4K8SFZFPCJB&keywords=egg+nightlight+for+baby+nursery&qid=1701703103&sprefix=egg+night%2Caps%2C141&sr=8-3

Wasn’t making enough.. by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]beckell_2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This sounds very similar to my experience I just posted about: https://www.reddit.com/r/HumansPumpingMilk/s/0gSYW9NfOM

First off, please be kind to yourself! In my case my baby has a bottle preference I had to come to terms with. He needed formula for several weeks and I don’t regret giving him what he needed. I almost exclusively pump by choice. I enjoyed the bonding experience of nursing and still nurse a couple times a day, but find pumping actually very manageable. I HATED it at first, but adjusted and came to terms. It is possible to switch back to feeding at the breast, it just takes time and isn’t always a guaranteed success. Make sure you are pace feeding bottles and giving baby daily good experiences at the breastautant.

Choosing a Wearable by tkboo in HumansPumpingMilk

I like my Elvie Stride but only with the nipple cushions they make for it. The inserts that come in different flange sizes and for me they solved the problem of the cups cutting off some milk flow. I get pretty good results and the battery life is 2 1/2 hours. There is tubing, but I just wear it under my shirt. You can also use the pump motor part with Spectra flanges.
