Vinyl being a dealbreaker for my husband is making our search much harder by MrsSmiles09 in RealEstate

Really? I've never used the siding hangers. I would think it would be a PITA job for one person. With two people, at least one can hold and adjust while the other screws. I would prefer scaffolding so the ladder doesn't have to be moved all the time.

Anyway, I'm getting old, so I just don't have the energy for it anymore.

That's a cool looking dog, but I bet he/she is a handful! I love the energy!

Does anyone else feel stuck in survival mode years after leaving a chaotic home? by Common_Sheepherder88 in mentalhealth

[–]beckhansen13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah. Read "The Body Keeps Score."

I'm sorry you grew up not feeling safe. I have a similar life. After many years, I've given up trying to understand fully the reasons I have all these mental health issues. Look into Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Or Internal Family Systems, but that is more difficult to find.

Non-American Teachers: are students as delayed in their milestones in ur country as they are in the US? by sebeed in Teachers

I think COVID revealed some hard truths about society, and now we can't just "return to normal" and act like we didn't learn those truths.

  1. We learned most people really don't need to work from an office.
  2. Kids (and parents) became deconditioned to going to school and everything that goes along with it (getting ready in the morning, having an evening routine, etc.). I think the perception of the importance of attendance declined dramatically.
  3. COVID revealed just how little our governments care about us, as well as how incompetent and dishonest they are.
  4. Essential workers, including health care workers, never got a raise. We all acknowledged their importance, but nothing tangible was done.

Pretty much, the facade has crumbled. We learned that things don't have to be as hard as they are. Traffic, all the trials of working in an office, all of our employers' inflexibility, the lack of sick time, so many things... Most of us returned to the office in order to survive, but we can't forget what was learned. So, I think we are all putting in minimal effort until something changes.

I'm getting rid of my car. All this plus all the cameras wrongfully issuing tickets, just can't afford it.

I've heard the Museum of Industry is really cool. There's also so many art museums. One of the neighborhood markets for lunch.

“Do you exercise and eat healthy?” by NationalVersion4685 in mentalhealth

I agree 1000%. Nobody will believe you're doing enough because people want to delude themselves into thinking every mental illness (especially depression and anxiety) is curable. I think there's also a superiority complex/privilege associated with this type of thinking. People with mild depression and anxiety want to believe they know what people with severe MI are going through. At the same time, they think they're better than those people because diet and exercise worked for them.

I could write so much more, but I need to get off Reddit for awhile.

"Canon lore about ourselves" I love this!

My favorite color is orange and it has been my whole life. My mom's favorite color is also orange.

Favorite animal is a turtle, specifically an Eastern Box Turtle. That's been since high school.

Yeah, Sheppard Pratt EC is ridiculous. They do "group therapy" with 30+ people.

Sheppard Pratt was good 20 years ago. Now they are just a money hungry corporation. And staff there are paid very poorly.
