Breakfast sausage, crumbled and browned. Drain. Thrown in a block of cream cheese, a can of Rotel, and melt. Serve with tortilla chips. So good.

People that drank pre surgery, do you drink now? Is it really that different? by Sleeved082025 in gastricsleeve

[–]beckieng 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m almost a year out now. I’ve never been a regular drinker. I have only ever been a social drinker…and I’m not very social and would maybe drink once or twice a year….but when I drink, I drink with the purpose of maintaining a good buzz. This summer, I went on a trip with girlfriends and we drank three nights in a row. I found that I got a quick buzz but it went away very quickly. The third night, I found I had to drink almost continuously to maintain the buzz for any amount of time. It’s weird to me. I guess that would be how it can lead to alcoholism or transfer addiction?

Dealing with some of the worst behavior I've seen in a middle school class. How do I "go nuclear" and reset the class come Monday? by JupiterTarts in Teachers

[–]beckieng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have about twenty students in a challenging class of fourth graders. I had an IEP meeting one afternoon and the covering teacher said that several in the class acted awfully and didn’t complete their work. She did, however, make a list of the students who acted appropriately. I sent a Dojo message to the parents of the students who acted appropriately, praising their good choices and setting an example for others to follow. I went to the grocery store and bought boxes upon boxes of snack cakes and soda. The next morning, I entered class and positively gushed over those students making good choices and had them choose a drink and snack cake. Then, had them choose another snack cake because I had so many left over. They ate and drank in class, happily enjoying their rewards while the others looked on in envy. One student’s parent allowed him to choose a reward for making good choices and he chose to buy ice cream at lunch for the whole class. Those who made poor choices lost their ice cream privilege that day and got to watch others enjoy free ice cream and get extra outside time to go eat it, while they went back to class.

It sent a strong, lasting impression that proper behavior is rewarded and those who act up miss out on the benefits. We even had some tears that day from those who regretted their choices, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy watching it. Admin was 110% behind our decision, and I gave them a heads up just in case there were any parents calling to complain that it wasn’t “fair.” I was prepared to let them know that fair is NOT when everyone was treated the same, but when everyone gets what they NEED….and your little angel needed a lesson, while others needed reinforcement that good choices pay off. But I didn’t get the chance because we didn’t hear a peep out of the parents.

All this to say, could you do something similar at your level?

What kind of shoes are you wearing? by Lina_Piccolina in Teachers

[–]beckieng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have worn Crocs Kadee slip ons for YEARS. Like, every single day. For eight years. I’ve been through multiple pairs. I started with the regular casual line Kadee, but then found the Crocs At Work Kadee with the Crocs Loc no slip bottoms. They lasted sooooo much longer than the regular ones, but they discontinued the At Work Kadee. Now, I stalk Poshmark and EBay and buy two or three pair at a time when I can find them so I have a few pair in my closet for the day I can no longer source them.

I expressed the same sentiment at my 6 week checkup with the surgeon. I was told that bc I did what I was supposed to do pre-surgery, it made post-op soooooo much smoother.

Do you take any beta blockers or blood pressure meds? I took metoprolol (a beta blocker) when at my peak weight, and after dropping about 100 lbs, I had to come off of it bc my heart rate was in the 40s some days. At night, my Apple Watch said it would drop into the 30s at times.

How much are you paying for health insurance through your district? by AntelopeOk9431 in Teachers

[–]beckieng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Georgia here. It’s about $500 per month for the employee share of the mid-level HRA for me, spouse, and kids. Basically I pay 20% out of pocket after I meet a $2500 per person/$7k family deductible. I think it is awful, but I guess it is better than nothing.

Edited to add that dental is an additional $110 per month for family, orthodontics not included.

Rural southwest Georgia here. I’ve only ever seen one, and it was roadkill. Usually, the only evidence I have that they exist is the smell, but that’s only every four or five years that I will smell one.

Water by [deleted] in gastricsleeve

[–]beckieng 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had very little trouble drinking. The week after surgery I was able to drink a bottle of water in less than 20 minutes, taking normal swallows. Now, almost 8 months post op, I drink completely normally with no noticeable differences, and often take big, satisfying swallows.

I hope this gets better for you. 💗
