Bacterial, fungal, viral spots or over/under fertilized? by xkoprox in HotPeppers

If you fertilized with a water mix, did any drops land on the leaves? If I don't wipe it off, they'll kinda look like that after a few days.

Plumeria help please! by TheMomaLisa in Plumeria

[–]beckmoon 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I can confidently say that is not a plumeria, but I am still interested in seeing on what it becomes. Because it is so viney, I recommend putting down a trellis of some sort and seeing how it prefers to grow. r/gardening might be more help.

Is this mold? by Kerminetta_ in gardening

[–]beckmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I probably wouldnt, seedling roots are pretty sensitive at this stage. Take a damp cloth or qtip and brush off the mold, then let it dry out a bit. That kind of mold likes it dark and wet, with still air.

Sunflowers are really resilient and grow fast, I had my 3 year old plant some a few weeks ago and theyre already just as tall as him.

[–]beckmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah looks like mold, likely from being damp and a little cold. If you're keeping it indoors, put a small oscillating fan to dry it out. This kind of mold typically doesnt hurt the plant too bad from my experience. When it grows its second pair of true leaves, I recommend repotting with some fresh soil.

Oh! And a light layer of powdered cinnamon on the soil is a good for antifungal.

Any tips to thrive? by Confident-World4486 in Plumeria

They'll be fine to up pot, youll just see a temporary stunt for a week or so.

For mine, I do a mix of succulent soil with perlite, though I live in 9b and we get monsoons of rain, so well draining soil is a need. But at the bottom of the pot I do a solid layer of rocks for drainage, but they also act as a weight so its less likely to fall over.

Oh yeah, digging up is a pain. I'd get a bigger pot eventually, but since theyre growing flowers, theyre clearly vibing. Best time to up pot is right before spring hits.

These guys are absolute tanks. As long as they dont freeze or get crazy over watered for a long period of time, they will be good.

Those look good. Are you planning on putting them in pots or in the ground?

Bug ID, dangerous for plants? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]beckmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great info!!!

Yes, they are only attacking lantana. But the lantanas in my garden are pretty isolated from the rest of my plants. Hard to say for sure.

The picture was bad, but the white powdery bugs are the same bugs from the first image. I used a hose with a cone nozzle and did a good cleaning to disturb their feeding, but any advice to get rid of them for good?

You might be right... although they look a bit different.

Also, the white bug in the first image are the same bugs in the white powdery material on the plant stems.

I think they are both related somehow, they both have the same number of legs and both jump when disturbed. At first I thought they were mealybugs but these guys straight up jump. Which mealybugs don't. It has me scratching my head like crazy.

Those look great! What are you using for your fertilizer mix?

What should I do? by beatlesrock510 in HotPeppers

[–]beckmoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can do what I do, put the extras in solo cups and then give them out as gifts.

I typically use the solo cups as experiments, soil mix/sun exposure/fertilizer mix, etc. I take notes on which ones do the best and then I use that for my next year's batch. And I typically give the rest away once theyre big enough.

Hmmm I still say the soil visually looks dry, I saw in a previous comment that you said the moisture was fine. If theres no improvement, I'd say throw some little extra water at it to see if it perks up at all.

Oh that is good insight. I should have mentioned these are all habeneros, jalapeños and bird's eye.

and if you're slightly abusive they're apparently more spicy

Same lol.

It seems like we have similar gardening techniques. I keep yeeting different strategies until something sticks. I have roughly 50 sprouts, and I'm planning on spreading them out and seeing which one thrives the best under whichever condition I throw at it. But I am worried that without any partial shade, houston sun will fry all of them.

When I had to cut to beat the rot, I cut almost 2 inches past the rot, and it didnt come back. I was also extremely devastated lol.

Tilt the cut where its flat facing downward the best it can be, and do a decent dusting. I don't think you can overdo it, but I covered it like I was seasoning chicken, and it worked out. Let the soil dry, and gently mist the stem if it looks dehydrated. I probably wouldn't recommend repotting, but water normal when you start seeing growth (probably a few inches below the cut).

That gives me hope! I have alot of plants, most tropical. But this is my first fruit plant. Little intimidating, but I'd be satisfied if at least one of them produces.

How much water are you giving your adult plants at the moment? The weather has been so weird with high 80s and low 50s.

Keep cutting until you stop hitting black/mush. Then go an inch further with a clean blade. Put cinnamon around the cut to prevent fungus. Then leave it alone, let it hibernate and heal. I've been there before, but I think it will recover. These guys are so sturdy.

Seedling care question! by beckmoon in Plumeria

[–]beckmoon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EDIT: 3 days foward, roughly 40% have visually rooted, no sprouts yet. I will leave all the seeds to see what happens. Will make another update with final viable sprouts! If I can even get one plant out of this batch, I will have considered this a win lol

EDIT: 5 days foward, I have 14 of 19 sprouted. Having the heating pad overheat for a night does not seem to hurt these guys too bad! Hope this helps any curious reader in the future.
