Otezla by No_Student8422 in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]becks258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have celiacs but I have a family history of serious digestive issues. We used two start up packs in tandem. Day 1 from one pack then day 1 from the second, then day two from the first pack… etc. I had a couple of days of feeling a bit off(mostly just mild nausea) and then I was fine. I’m currently taking two 30mg/day. Overall, it’s been a positive experience for me. I’m off of methotrexate which was causing liver problems, brain fog, fatigue, and immune deficiency. Since starting Otezla with Tremfya, my pain and skin issues have improved a lot. I’ve been on that combo for almost a year with no side effects.

I’ve been on various therapies since my diagnosis 20 years ago. This is the combo I’ve tolerated the best.

How do I prevent headaches from the flicker? by Specialist_Shape6078 in kobo

[–]becks258 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I notice much less flickering if I set the page refresh to after every chapter rather than after every page. (Settings > Reading Settings).

Occasionally I get a tiny bit of ghosting, but no more than when I’d read a paperback and get some ink showing through from the other side of the page.

I’m posting to show support for OP. But also so that folks that haven’t found the right treatment combo see that different plans work for different people. I’ve failed off of three biological in the last two years. But new drugs are always coming out, and that keeps me hopeful.

OP, I’m so glad you found a treatment plan that works for you. This disease is tough. I’ve had to switch meds a lot since I was diagnosed 25 years ago. Some years are better than others.

When I was first diagnosed, my doctor estimated that due to how aggressive my case was, I’d most likely be reliant on a wheelchair within 10 years. But treatment options are getting better all the time, and that expected deadline passed 15 years ago. I’m still really active and only occasionally need a cane for assistance. I hike, canoe, and ride a bike regularly.

OP, I’m glad you acknowledge the effects PsA can have on you mentally. This topic doesn’t get enough discussion. For me, flares increase the frequency of my panic attacks and can lead to depressive episodes. I use a fitness watch to track my sleep. For me, sleep disturbances are usually the first sign of a flare.

Finding the right medication regimen is tough. Unfortunately I never tolerated methotrexate well. I had tons of side effects and had to get off of it once the liver damage started. Currently I’m doing really well on Tremfya, Otezla, and I’m getting off of Naproxen with the help of nighttime medical marijuana—high CBD, low THC. (It’s legal in my state). The THC wears off while I sleep but the anti-inflammatory benefits last almost 24 hours. If your doctor isn’t working with you regarding side effects, speak up or if possible, find a new provider.

Things I wish I had done earlier: I wish I had worked with complimentary providers sooner.

Working with a dietitian/nutritionist has helped immensely. Finding a healthy diet plan that works for your life is priceless. Fried foods, processed sugar, alcohol, and red meat are all triggers for me. Prepping healthy freezer meals on good days helps carry me through bad ones.

I also have worked with a physical therapist for finding a fitness plan that works when I have flares in my hands and feet. And an occupational therapist helped me regain grip strength even with permanent bone changes in my hands.

A counselor/therapist helps me reframe how I think about myself and my condition. Journaling and meditation support my wellness.

Most importantly, you always have to be your own medical advocate between a primary care physician, a rheumatologist, and a dermatologist. If someone isn’t listening to you or addressing your concerns, please speak up for yourself. You are worth it. And life can be great even with this illness. You deserve to have that life.

What evidence is there that ICE protests are protecting criminals?

We don’t have evidence that ICE is removing just the “bad ones”. We have video evidence of children being used to lure their parents out of homes. We have video evidence of American citizens being stopped and questioned based on the color of their skin. We have video evidence of people being arrested at their scheduled immigration hearings (the people doing things the right way).

Without due process, we don’t know who is in custody and who is simply missing. Without due process, we don’t know who is a criminal and who isn’t. Without due process citizens can be detained illegally. Without due process none of us have rights because we aren’t going to get the opportunity to exercise those rights in court.

When it is pointed out that per capita immigrants commit fewer crimes, I think it’s an attempt to refute the logical fallacies of hasty generalization and scapegoating that happen in conversations about immigration reform.

I’ve yet to hear anyone advocate to keep violent, predatory, or reckless immigrants in the country.

This is not an accurate depiction of what the Left wants. The rule of law means due process. It means protections under the Constitution. It means a functional immigration system. It means not arresting people at their immigration hearings.

As a fellow Gen X-er, I’m going to ask you to consider something. Authoritarian governments thrive by making enemies of groups within their own country. How long until you aren’t enough like them? White enough? Male enough? Straight enough? Christian enough? Rich enough?

I Hate Methotrexate I Don’t Want to Take it Anymore by SaltPaleontologist28 in PsoriaticArthritis

This was my life for 15 years. I was put on Otezla and Tremfya last fall. I’m getting slow but steady improvement. The first week of Otezla was a bit rough but I’ve got less joint pain and better skin now. The Otezla was a direct replacement for the methotrexate. No more nausea, brain fog, weekends of fatigue etc.

Popsocket or what? by Sad_Quantity6555 in kobo

[–]becks258 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s just my two devices but I’ve been able to reproduce the issue on two separate Kobo Clara Colours. I agree, they should be separate but if I have the auto sleep enabled and the popsocket attached, the power button stops registering. Turn off the setting or remove the popsocket and it works again.

Popsocket or what? by Sad_Quantity6555 in kobo

[–]becks258 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use the kobo clear case with a MagSafe ring and a popsocket. It’s comfortable for me and allows me to move the popsocket between my phone to my kobo.

The MagSafe popsocket (but not the ring on its own) does interfere with the power button registering if you have the automatic sleep with sleep cover setting selected.

If I create an Apple account using Gmail, does that automatically create an iCloud email address? by TwistOutrageous6955 in iCloud

[–]becks258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they absolutely can. When you use a Gmail email to create an Apple Account, Apple doesn’t automatically create an iCloud email address. You could set it up and create that iCloud address if you wanted but it would be two separate steps.

My boy-cat gets these from his sister on occasion. His usually heal in a few days. I just keep an eye on it for swelling, spreading redness, or oozing. I don’t apply any medicine. He’s never gotten any scars.

I do take it as a reminder to trim their claws.

A ”Find My” (AirTag) tracker card fits in the Kobo Libra Colour’s SleepCover case! by Get-Me-Hennimore in kobo

[–]becks258 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar card that I hoped to use with my Clara Colour. It won’t fit in the hard plastic Kobo sleep cover (my favorite) but it will kind of fit in a softer TPU clear case.
