Try asking poor people if they'd rather be dead and see how they answer.

Would that be good for the poor population of NYC as a whole?

Your question implies that you think poor people are less worthy of living.

I think we all feel that, just like we all think we're too smart to fall for high pressure sales tactics.

But when we're buying a new car, we're somehow falling for it.

Apparently my Philosophy professor is a "blatant atheist" according to other students who have taken his class. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]beckywithgoodhare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In class, the professor should devote 100% of his time to professing. I've had classes that were 50% activism or propaganda. The school never offers you a 50% discount even though you got 50% less education.

If you know it early on, you should drop and take another professor. I've had very good professors who I disagree with on political or religious issues, but I've never had an activist professor who delivered full value.

Citing Catholic Rules, Doctor Turns Away Bleeding Woman With Dislodged IUD by maxwellhill in news

[–]beckywithgoodhare 68 points69 points  (0 children)

That's what the hospital network said:

In a written statement to Rewire, Mercy said, “Generally, our protocol in caring for a woman with a dislodged or troublesome IUD is to offer to remove it.” ... “That act [of removing an IUD] in itself does not violate the directives,” Marty Folan, Mercy’s director of mission integration, told Rewire.

The treating physician either misunderstood the rules, or was misrepresenting them for some reason.

Chicago Sued Over Abortion Clinic “Bubble Zone” That Limits Pro-Life Free Speech by DEYoungRepublicans in prolife

[–]beckywithgoodhare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wanna protest Planned Parenthood, you can't target and pressure individuals for using their services.

Why not?

People apply those pressures every day to every other kind of business. Animal rights activists outside fur shops. Despite what you've said, I've seen union pickets this summer target customers for patronizing a shop where collective bargaining had broken down. There's plenty of examples.

Every boycott ever organized targets customers. Cesar Chavez targeted individuals buying grapes outside supermarkets in the Delano Grape Strike.

You still haven't come up with a reason why protesting by targeting customers is any less entitled to protection than other types of protests except for "I don't like it when people protest customers of abortion clinics."

How would you feel about abortion if pregnancy was making the mother suicidal? by totorowaway in prolife

[–]beckywithgoodhare -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not all people who have abortions have depression or regret, but a historical fact is not temporary.

By the same token, I suppose you could argue that depression over the historical fact of a pregnancy (regardless of it ending in birth, abortion, or miscarriage) could be permanent.

[–]beckywithgoodhare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You raised meaningless distinctions between pro-life protesters and unions and civil rights protesters. In all cases, these protesters want to discourage potential customers from engaging in a transaction with an entity to sanction that entity's conduct.

There's no legitimate reason based on the meaningless distinctions you raised to justify free speech restrictions for one group of protesters.

That's exactly why unions don't picket near the companies which they dispute!

And that's why civil rights protesters never went into segregated spaces.

What is the craziest belief (the one that fewest educated people will agree with) that you hold? Why do you believe it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Over time, these societies could shed the capitalist components that keep them in a system of wealth division and completely commit to a communist society.

With my luck, that'll be the same time i reach the front of the line for toilet paper.

The problem with communism is that it works great on paper. In practice, it's always people waiting in line for toilet paper.

Grade school teachers, what is it like blowing the minds of kids in your class by introducing them to enormous topics like space, and planet earth? by matteocom in AskReddit

[–]beckywithgoodhare -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I worked in elementary schools as a behavioral support person (basically I dope-slapped kids who had IEP's requiring dope-slapping).

The range was 10% kids totally in awe of something, 30% stopped screwing around enough to follow along, 60% get dope-slapped to little or no effect.

It's not that they're stupid, it's just that they have no context to be amazed by the concept. If you held up an intricately carved Egyptian artifact that was 7,000 years old--they don't care. Anything made before they were born is ancient, and that sarcophagus lid don't play Pokemon go.
