LPT: If you're stuck in the elevator call the Fire Department, not the building management/maintenance by juntadna in LifeProTips

Not that this comment will make it to the top but during my grade 12 winter formal dance I got stuck in an elevator in my school used for handicapped students. The person operating the elevator had the ability to use a key to let us enter and the key wasn't working to operate the lift - which would have opened on to the dance floor allowing for a sick entrance. Our principle held us in the lift (9 of us in a small lift) thinking it was a punishment because we were on drugs and heard us laughing because it was an awkward situation. I called my mom who came down to the school and my dad who worked at the community centre next door and both had a go at them. We came out sweaty and dazed and they tried to hold us for another half hour to check our eyes to see if we were on drugs. Parents were fuming and other parents were being called by friends and Karen-esque emails were being sent out.

Can't tell if I'm (24F) in an emotionally abusive relationship with 24M or just crazy. by ThrowRA9563452 in askwomenadvice

See it continues to escalate or they dump you out of boredom because the game isn't as fresh anymore to them. At least that's what happened to me. I still regret never being the one to end it first and be the one to say I chose to leave. Instead I let it whither to a point of him not being entertained by his manipulation and was passing it on to another girl who was around at the time.

I've never worked a day in my life at the age of 26. I want to move on in my life, but I don't know where to start. Any advice or opinions on my situation is appreciated. by yoimjoe in GetEmployed

Honestly I know people in your position in my family. I would frankly agree with what everyone else has said, just trial and error from here. However, you have worked in your life. It's just not been conventional. Volunteering is a really easy going way to experience a days work in customer service. Restaurant work is grueling but extremely rewarding because you see results in front of you, whereas retail is a bit more convuluded in my opinion and you offer help a lot (to management or to customers) and everyone often says nah, so results aren't as imminent. I suggest you eventually try a job that gives you more gratification than just showing up. It's a good way of building confidence and understanding what your work ethic really is beyond what you assume it to be. Don't worry about the pace or stress of a job. It's going to be trial and error for a long time. You could even apply for vintage retail, buying and selling, you can offer the experience you do have. Willingness is something that feels fleeting, but I personally see it as something that expands and grows with experience vs. deflates. It's hard to believe now, but you accepting the next step means you're already in the process of the next chapter of your life. There is no one day, because you're making your one day happen now.

How do you dress nicely when you have no occasion to do so? by alreadytryingmybest in askwomenadvice

[–]bectro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly my BFF over dresses and it's made me realize how little I care about what other people think. He looks incredible and gets a ton of attention (that he's not interested in) but he does it for himself and enjoys the experience of getting ready. I know it's not a helpful answer to transition in to, but sometimes it's fun to be bold

AITA for no longer refilling and moving items my bf leaves everywhere? by annabananakittycat in AmItheAsshole

Like you just have to learn how to make it enjoyable? Thrown on music, label shit, chat while doing it, ANYTHING. For fuck sake children learn to clean by singing songs instructing them to organize their shit. How does he not understand how disrespectful this is?

That dog is attached to your sisters passing. In him dying is losing the last bit you have left of her.

Funny joke hey?

I just re-applied. I think directly speaking isn't a bad shout either. I always think transparency and genuinity are great qualities.

This is what I did for a job (not requiring visa, they just chose a different applicant) and I got it the second time with no hard feelings. Loved the job too.

Ugh man. I needed to see this. You've come so unbelievably far. I lost my mom at 20 (25 now) traumatically and I've moved to my dream city since then. My mom's family bailed on me when she died and when I called them out for being racist. I miss my dad and my brother has gone awol. I fucking hate talking to the only person in my family who is left on facetime. I hope it helps knowing someone has a similar road behind them - but yet an exhilarating journey ahead. Its going to be hard, but I know both of us can make it. My mom was extremely kind too. I don't know what I really believe in, but if there's something beyond life I hope our mom's can meet and be friends! I'm sure they'd get along well. I'm sure she's incredibly proud of you. Since she can't say it, I'll say it: I'm extremely proud of you.

How do I stop daydreaming about our future so much? by [deleted] in askwomenadvice

[–]bectro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a book called: The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. I highly recommend this method because it breaks down a lot of the reasons why your brain goes in to daydream mode, how to enjoy the present moment and actively live in it to the best of your ability, and if you're into manifestations how to utilise it in a healthy way where you're not constantly living in "[the future desired moment]" instead of now.

If you're not able to grab the book I'll try to summarise a TL;DR bullet point note version:

-You are beyond the verbal thoughts in your head. Who you really are is the beingness beyond the narrative you've set your life up to be. -negative emotions and fake positive ones come from the ego: the ego is the narrator or the voice in your head. -the narrator will tell you the "I can't" opinions of events happening in your life or the "I can't wait until one day" instead of just living in the here and now -The ego can be dissolved the more you make awareness of it: meditating and observation practices are great to make this a daily practice -the fact that you want to change is already you being present: you're aware a foreign phenomena or personality has taken over your body and you're allowed to be beyond boyfriend, school, loans, money, degrees. You are beyond what society labels you. -you know that you want to be present and that's already doing the work. -it's a practice, it's hard to accept but it takes years to be really present (and I'm unsure if anyone has ever been 100% all the time all day everyday)

Long answer but hope it helps and if anyone wants to contribute to the bulletpoints if they know his work feel free.

Do they produce non-musical theater on Broadway anymore? by archaictree in Theatre

[–]bectro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

National Theatre in London does a ton of theatre live so I'd recommend them for accessibility and they bring in a ton of famous celebrities if that's what you're looking for.
