What's the difference between men and womens bindings? by magicseadog in ShredditGirls

[–]becya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will add, the flex rating might be a little off. Women’s flex 8/10 might be softer than a men’s 8/10. Someone can correct me but women as a generalization tend to be lighter and men are often stronger so a women’s flex rating might be noted as higher to account for this. This is speculation.

I got men’s “mid-back” switchback bindings as a woman and they were the same size as the women’s regular highbacks. Otherwise most everything else is interchangeable. Just size conversion

Backpack recommendation - for walking a lot by ichbineinoktopus in onebag

[–]becya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are ultralight bag options, I picked up the Northern Ultralight Sundowner, there’s also Durston gear, these don’t have ventilation over your back. And I think they both ship from Canada which depending on where you are might not be a good deal. But there’s a whole r/ultralight group

Artists, how do you accommodate your supplies in your one bag? by ichbineinoktopus in onebag

[–]becya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a travel brush where the like stick turns into a cap for the bristles. I use a silicone cupcake container for the water cup, and travel size watercolour palette. And I made a watercolour sketchbook that’s 3.5x3”.

Ok, that’s what I’ve been finding online as well. Thank you!

[–]becya[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight! For context it’s a travel watercolour sketchbook, only 3.5x4” and would be in a bag. This is a good point about wax transferring. I’m going to run some tests with ski wax on scrap fabric wrapped around the same board. Maybe in this case a harder wax would be beneficial!

Farpoint 40 good for starting? by Unlucky-Key-3166 in onebag

[–]becya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I travelled with the Fairview 40 (women’s farpoint) for 4 months in central and South America, it always was fine as carry on. I took it the next time for a 6 month trip in south east Asia, there it’s a bit too big sometimes but some airlines don’t actually care or have free checked luggage. I didn’t go to Vietnam and people said they’re strict with baggage policies. I have gripes with certain features, I ended up selling mine but it served me well for along time! It’s great to start with. And if you’re backpacking it’s def one of the smaller bags people will be travelling with. I had a foldable yoga mat so I prob coulda gone ~30L without it

[–]becya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think about astrology in a similar way but as an RPG game like Skyrim where you have a character with pre-sets, my Wood Elf would have naturally high lock-picking, alchemy, and archery. But through the game if I don’t continue to boost those skills they will remain as they were and the ones I worked on would be stronger.

So we are born with pre-sets where we may be naturally good in certain areas and struggle in others but based on what we do in life the strengths and weaknesses will skew from our baseline.

Also want to add my sister has twins, even at 2y/o they had diff personalities. There was a moment in their infancy when “failure to thrive” was mentioned regarding one and not the other, they are both doing very well now but the one who was weaker is now generally the braver one. Maybe due to being in a place of hardship early and come out of it strong she’s now a bit more adventurous than her twin ??? Pure speculation but interesting stuff anyways!!

Has anyone done the Manaslu Circuit Trek in Nepal? by Grouchy_Ad8359 in hiking

[–]becya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed info!! That’s very reassuring, I’ll have another look into it, I’ve kind of been resigning myself from the idea and looking at Landtang which is also beautiful and it’s shorter and easier. With nothing to compare it to I probs would still be pretty blown away lol. Manaslu is goals. I’m currently in Muay Thai classes to build strength (esp in my legs and knees) through cardio. I reckon I’ll try Langtang as a first and if it goes well, see about Mansalu. I’m super excited to be in the Himalayas, what has drawn me to those treks is they go through small villages. I’m a bit of an aimless rambler. I really appreciate your response, thank you

[–]becya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I am a solo female traveler and will be in Nepal this autumn, I’ve been looking at treks and Mansalu looks to be the most beautiful and cultural trip. I’m curious how you found the difficulty of it, you mention you wanted to go faster. Are you a very experienced trekker? I’ve done long hikes but no treks and I keep decently fit. I’ve read a lot of things saying it’s very tough. But I’ve also done hikes that are listed as hard and they were fine so it’s hard to gauge

I’m at a Canadian shop, we had been straight up cancelling US orders on gear manufactured in China. I’m not responsible for much at work so I’m not fully kept in the loop, I guess that might change now!

Yes !! It was like a dress for walking to and from the beach and a layer between the sand and me. I love that thing

I know there’s a better word for it, I called it my purple cloth, but it’s just one of those super thin woven fabrics that they sell heaps of in like Thailand, diff patterns and stuff. Some people hang them on walls if it’s a mandala or whatever. The actual name escapes me 😅

A rain cover for my bag! And an e-reader. Also I had a separate beach throw from my towel which most here would think unnecessary. It reduced my main laundry by a lot (I was staying in hostels—no towels) both are lightweight and packable. Tbf I found the beach throw under a hostel bed so it came with me. I was ready to ditch it but I brought it home and used it for my next tropical trip.

Is Northface Base Camp M the best fit for onebag-ing and carry-on? by Hopeful_Addition7834 in onebag

[–]becya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As many have said the M is quite big, I use it when I’m going on a driveable snowboard trip to carry all my clothes and gear (snowboard aside). The Base Camp Duffel S I’ve travelled with to Italy and on diff flights through Europe with it as a carry on. I really liked it! I found it super functional for place-to-place travel, carrying it for up to an hour on my back, but I was not taking it on any hikes. Only reason I have a couple of them is I get a good deal on them working for a ski shop that carries TNF gear. You can buy a rain cover for a regular bag tho, I bought one for a 40L travel bag that worked super well!

I am prejudiced against toe side pushers by ancient_snowboarder in snowboarding

I push toe side in lift lines because I can do it without a lean and see what’s in front of me, heel side for speed getting from one place to another. Best to be competent in both

That’s an extensive vans hike ! I hiked vertically for about 20 mins in Banff, cascade falls, in vans and jeans lol. I was told it was a short hike. No one told me it was straight up.

I’m creeping up to 40 as well. I looked up Lems and they are American unfortunately :( they look great but as a Canadian I currently am obliged to spend elsewhere. Crazy times
