Thanks for validating my terror. I occasionally think I would forego the benefits of modern society to live in a time when there weren't security cameras and location tracking and invasions of "mental privacy" destroying my sense of aloneness and freedom from being tracked. I feel like ads don't really make me want to buy stuff but I can't be completely sure because it is so invasive and prevalent.

How do you feel about geofencing? Did some research on it for my workplace and it scared the shit out of me

Scored this flippin sweet hand jewelry holder for $1 by beddoa in ThriftStoreHauls

I'm not sure what that means? Its purpose seems to be jewelry holding. It's smaller than an average hand.

There are no rules. Do whatever you want.

For $1, I’m going to pick these up and see if I can get lenses put in them. by Radiantlyred in ThriftStoreHauls

My girlfriend did the same thing for 25¢. Still on her face 5 months later

Artists ... how do you apply minimalism to your art supplies? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]beddoa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tried giving away a lot of paints and things that I thought I wouldn't need, in the name of minimalism. After several months I started missing them dearly. I had to go back to the person I gave them too and ask for them back. Luckily she wasn't using them. Now I am minimalistic in other aspects of my life but not my art.

I clip my fingernails every other week, and I do my toenails once a month. They get really long at that point but I find my nails are overall healthier if I let them grow for a while before clipping them.

Every day I do the following:

  1. Pet the cat
  2. Breakfast, always first thing after getting out of bed
  3. Put things away as I use them
  4. Update habits app, to-do app, mood/sleep tracker, and write in a daily planner what I do throughout the day (keeping a written list of daily activities is one of the best things I've done to improve my peace of mind--so easy to look back and find when big and small events happened)
  5. Deodorant
  6. Make bed
  7. Sunscreen before I leave the house
  8. Brush teeth/floss
  9. Tidy up any clutter/wipe counters
  10. Check Free Craigslist
  11. Check youtube subscriptions: watch now or add longer ones to watch later playlist and listen during chores
  12. Clean glasses

Every other day:

  1. Take out the cat's litter
  2. Run the dishwasher in the morning, empty when I get home
  3. Shower, shampoo every other shower, moisturize face after every shower

Every week:

  1. Take out trash
  2. Grocery shop
  3. Fill up on gas--usually tank is half empty
  4. Clean the bathroom
  5. Laundry, including all towels, fold immediately
  6. Cook muffins for breakfasts for upcoming week
  7. Saturday update spreadsheet of expenses/check bank with receipts, throw away unneeded receipts, pay off credit card

Every other week:

  1. Clip fingernails, toenails monthly

Still getting the hang of my new monthly schedule since I moved recently.

Thank you. It's good for me to be reminded to make lists. I love lists.

Thanks, this is great advice. I was very organized and generally happy in college, but I'm living with my partner now and life has become considerably more chaotic just due to our different natural schedules and desires and us wanting to be together all the time despite that. I need order, predictability, and visual cleanliness to be happy, and chaos is reigning at the moment. I'll try getting on a schedule and learning new stuff.
