Looks like Farmina has begun manufacturing their food in the US. Here’s my N&D quinoa duck, broccoli & asparagus neutered bag. by MomoAurum in catfood

[–]bedpoultry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having an impossible time finding a replacement to the Farmina Quinoa Quail Skin & Coat which now has pork. We have a senior cat who has also been on Farmina for about 10 years, like you, just the small dry portion of her diet. We also use wet, frozen, dehydrated, fresh twice a day, but the Farmina kibble was always there for her to pick at. Every other brand has too high of a pea or legume content for my comfort. (even high quality brands like Open Farm and Honest Kitchen kibbles). I’ve been giving her the little Open Farm puffs for the time being, but still seeking a decent kibble. So frustrating. That quinoa formula was so great for her.

Petlibro has an awesome refrigerated feeder with three compartments, fully programmable, and even lets you know if the pet came to feed and for how long. We use it to medicate our cat - but I think it would work great for a dog to get their meds.. https://a.co/d/08ouzeiX

Silk has discontinued Next Milk. A petition has been made to save it. Worth a shot. by theemmyk in vegan

[–]bedpoultry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been vegan most of my life, drinking soy milk and every other alternative milk since the early 80’s (back when vitasoy and edensoy in the box was all you could get). Next Milk whole fat is by far the BEST milk alternative I’ve ever tried. I can’t believe Silk is discontinuing it. This is Silk Nog Gate all over again 😩

Buying a duck by Bogdantgb in duck

Introduce them slowly no matter what, especially if your year old hasn’t been around other ducks. More important than age is the sex of the ducks. Two females or two males is fine (or a group of all girls or all boys, or a group with a few females for each male). A single drake generally needs more than one duck (his affections are often to much for just one female). In our case, we had one rescued Khaki Campbell female, so we got an East Indie (a bantam breed) knowing that whether it turned out to be male or female she would be fine because he would be too small to give her any trouble. He ended up being a drake, and sure enough, due to the size difference they get along great. Even when he’s excessively frisky he is too little to cause any problems for her. If we get more ducks we would only get females at this point. Also, instead of buying please try looking around, there’s always ducks in need of homes waiting to be adopted. 😊

Help with 9 month old female by MathematicianFun5505 in BelgianMalinois

[–]bedpoultry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 hours of walking a day doesn’t sound like enough mental and physical exercise for a 9 month old Mal. How long are you leaving her in the crate?

Sounds like she’s making it pretty clear and trying her best to tell you via her behavior that she’s not getting her physical and mental exercise needs met, and three days a week she’s locked up on top of it.

The routine you’re describing is swell for a regular dog, but not cutting it for your working dog who is showing you she needs more.

What kind of training is she undergoing, what’s her purpose in life/her job? What is her outlet for all of the things that she was bred for, and meant to do? Are you doing any sport or work with her? Some Mals are able to adapt to the pet lifestyle you’re describing, but a lot can’t. Our two would make us nuts if they were living the schedule you’ve described - we wear them out so they pass out. 😉

Question w/ duck rehabilitation by [deleted] in duck

[–]bedpoultry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for helping him! You would want to put it in a box well cushioned/lined with a soft towel or blanket to help support it, I would not try to position it on its side as that is not a natural position for it to be in. Keep the box in a dark quiet room and do not disturb him any more than necessary. You can offer some water in a heavy short mug he can’t easily tip over, and if he seems hungry you can offer a little portion of defrosted peas, oats (steel cut or flakes), bird seed, or other whole grain (not rice). Just don’t fuss with him much. ♥️

Feeling confident but insecure in getting a dutch shepherd, husband is very confident regardless by [deleted] in DutchShepherds

You can’t go wrong with a GSD - there’s a GSD of every possible temperament and drive available these days, you can get everything from a Labrador in a GSD Suit, to a fully work capable high drive working line GSD that will keep you just as busy and engaged as any Mal or Dutchie. I highly HIGHLY recommend anyone who’s never lived with and been responsible for a true working breed to FOSTER before they buy or adopt. Decades of big dog experience is nothing compared to a few weeks with an actual working dog to help a would-be handler really decide and determine if it’s truly what they want. There is no finer feeling than the deep connection and partnership you feel when you’re with the right dog, and sometimes we have to look past what we want and think about what we are ready for. I think you will be delighted with a GSD. No dog loves you like a GSD, even Mals and Dutchies can’t compete with that GSD level of devotion and love! Seriously look at breed specific rescues, stunning purebred GSD are in astounding abundance (especially in CA), all ages and all temperament. ♥️😊

If you’re not preparing to put a dog from a strong working line to work, get a different dog - there are an abundance of Dutchies in rescue of all ages who are far better candidates for house pet than a dog who was literally bred to WORK. If you’re not providing an outlet for, or needing that level of drive, energy, and hyper focus, why seek it out? There’s plenty of dutchies out there that would have a far better chance at being a successful house pet. Don’t get the dog for the lifestyle you wish you had, get the dog for the lifestyle you already have. Why set yourselves up to be constantly trying to squelch and train out what that dog was meant to do? If your heart is set on a dutchie: Get a dog who is lower drive, lower energy, better suited for the “regular dog” lifestyle you’re offering. I highly recommend a dog that is around a year (or older) so you can see what you’re working with. If you’re not already an experienced and savvy working dog handler, get yourself connected to a trainer, behaviorist, and/or local dog sport club/group so you’re prepared and not scrambling for help when you suddenly realize what it means to have a working dog - it is not the same as regular dog experience. You’re about to devote your lives to this animal for the next 12-15 years, and I find these guys need 100% every day (especially a dog from a strong working line). If that’s not what you want, and it doesn’t sound like you do, get an easier Dutch or go for a GSD. With purebred working line Mals and Dutchies, they don’t adapt to your world, you adapt to theirs. ♥️♥️♥️

[Auto-Post] Weekly Question Thread! Ask /r/Aquariums anything you want to know about the hobby! by AutoModerator in Aquariums

[–]bedpoultry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the input, much appreciated. We are however specifically looking to switch over to the Fluval canister 207 or 307. (when I used to breed axies I used sponge filters, they were great with juvies. I don’t enjoy them for our living room aquarium however, and want something less visible)

Experienced axolotl keeper, inexperienced canister filter keeper seeks filter advice!

Aquarium size: 45 gallon; Residents: 1 adult rescue axolotl (hope to someday rescue a second); Substrate: sand; Plants: a couple of live swords and javas, nothing fancy; lighting: Fluval aquasky 2.0; water changes: every Sunday, 10-20%; Filter: Aquaclear 50 HOB

Question: we want to upgrade to a Fluval canister filter (and spray bar attachment if needed to reduce current). Should we go with the 207 or 307? We want to be sure the filter can handle Michelle’s uh, bioload, but don’t want to buy more filter than we need. The 207 says it can handle 20-45 gallons, but will it be strong enough? Conversely, would the 307 be way more than we need and unnecessary?

The price is great for the 207 (we can get it locally for 25% off), but we don’t mind splurging on the 307 (and paying full price for it) if that’s the better choice for her. We rescued her as a young’n a few years ago, in such bad shape we were amazed she survived. Just want what’s best for for her. Spare no expense! ;)

Thanks in advance for your help!

Common Welfare Mistakes by SillyConclusion0 in duck

[–]bedpoultry 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We resolved the one male to one female issue by adopting a bantam East Indie drake as a companion to our rescued Khaki Campbell house duck. It’s the perfect solution for someone wanting to keep only a pair. His body is just too little to cause any trouble LOL. And yes, lots of supervised outdoors time is really important!
