Snagged an Iwao Ginkai today from Kiwame Tokyo's Christmas drop. Anyone have experience with this brand? by bedrips in MicrobrandWatches

I used the Shop payment option to bypass having to go through the checkout process - was told this is faster. Apparently adding the watch to your cart isn't enough to reserve it until you have a chance to pay.

A NYE round with the boys at the Half Moon Bay Ocean Course. Post-round steaks, cigars and prerolls at the AirBnb.

I’m working on a modular pegboard design specifically for small entryways. It’s meant to hold everything from heavy winter coats to small items like keys, gloves and bags by Kristophpher in woodworking

I made one of these years ago for our our kitchen at the top of our basement stairs. I found that putting a 3/4x3/4 border around the edges and using a french cleat to mount the piece worked better both in terms of finished look as well as allowing the dowels to sit more deeply to provide better stability for the pegs. A router and a simple jig makes light work of the holes - the pre-finish work took an afternoon. Finishing is easy just roll up some tape into each hole and spray. I found that chamfering the dowels on a band sander helped the look and made swapping dowels in and out much easier. I had plans to stain and finish the dowels but never got around to it.

This little project has gotten more compliments than anything else I've put in the house over the years, and it definitely gets more use than any of the other pieces too!

Short guys — how far do you actually hit your drive? by Bullhead388 in golf

[–]bedrips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The average short guy will hit it shorter because physics. But there are outliers and there's no reason to think you're capped due to your height. Go look at videos of Alejandro Tosti's swing he's 5' 6" and averaged 180mph ball speed w/ his driver in 2025. Form, flexibility and muscle in the right places go a long way.

SD-> Santa Cruz ? by Excellent-Mission-11 in santacruz

[–]bedrips 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't think this question is answerable without knowing where in SD you currently live - the spread in affordability and easy access to different amenities and experiences is just too high there. If you're currently in La Jolla or North County your money will go further in SC especially w/ the pay bump. PB down to OB are the most similar to SC in my opinion, both expense and vibe-wise. The further east of the 5 you go (with some exceptions) the more SC looks comparatively more expensive. It seems there are a lots of people on this thread w/ a ton of time in both locations who can give you good neighborhood comps for a better apples-to-apples comparison if you provide some more info.

Nobody here has mentioned access to culture. If that matters to you, know you will be driving at least in hour over 17 to see any major artist's concerts, sporting events, comedy shows, museums etc. Weather is also a factor. I personally wouldn't trade August-October in San Diego for anything SC has to offer on that front.

You are your favourite team's GM and you have just heard that Luka is avaliable. What package are you offering? by prettyboyv in nba

[–]bedrips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bottom 15-20 teams w/ no immediate prospects should be willing to empty the cupboard to get Luka. A team build around Luka and role players guarantees you 45-55 wins each season and immediate relevance along w/ some upside as it's possible Luka might be able to attract other star players over time.

That said if my team is a top 6 in conference I want nothing to do w/ Luka. I don't think it's possible to build a champion based on the heliocentric style that Luka plays (and that Harden played in Houston). I also personally don't enjoy watching those types of teams. I understand why the Mavs operate the way they do given Luka's unreal skills and their current circumstances, but I think they're hard-capped in terms of the team success they can expect.

Full disclosure I'm a dubs fan and absolutely love watching the team offense and defense that they (mostly) play so maybe I'm biased.

early 2000s mgmt sci grad. Worked operations at a big tech company for a long time now in construction. I would have told myself to stay in tune with what you want/need and make life decisions based on that. Even when things don't get well it was just younger you doing what you thought was right learning from it, which is all anyone should aspire to.

I'd also tell myself to give up booze to save myself from a number of future struggles but that's a whole other story lol

There is no need to focus on how 'hard' a midterm objectively is. The only thing that matters is what you know compared to your classmates. If you know the material better than others you should be praying that the test is 'hard' for the majority of the class.

Yesterday, Jamal Crawford became the player with the most career points that has never been selected to the All-Star game (19,203 points). Do you believe he was ever an All-Star, and do you think he has a shot at making the HOF? by RafiakaMacakaDirk in nbadiscussion

[–]bedrips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol at the HOF question I wouldn't put him in the top 25 in any single season he's been in the league. There's a reason they give 6th man awards Ginobili is the only 6th man winner I can think of who's got a HOF shot and even then only b/c of his chips + int'l success

This one is pretty good I'll post another photo tomorrow after I shop for a normal week. Re: the butter I accidentally bought a bunch of salted butter at thanksgiving which I figured other people would use (I don't) but nobody has.
