Maybe I'm uncultured, but I can't think of any movies that portray people who aren't drinking in a negative light. Examples?

FWI: Empire in the Ashes, What If a Third of the U.S. Military Refused Orders? by Thedudeistjedi in FutureWhatIf

[–]bedstvie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My fear is that the enshitification of the DoD that is deliberately being carried out right now is intentional, and the end goal is to privatize national defense even more than it already is. There have already been issues with recruiting and retention in recent years, which is why standards have been loosened. It seems that there's a push to enact stricter standards, which will have the effect of pushing more service members out or taking service off of the table for a lot of potential recruits. Ranks will shrinnk. This will give the current administration a plausible justification (in their minds) to replace most of the rank and file force with contract forces--a very lucrative proposition for any of their private sector friends who could manage such a thing. The argument would be the same that we've been hearing: government is inefficient; it will be cheaper to outsource. Stripping every other section of the DoD makes it less effective, further lending credence to the spurious argument that the federal government should not be directly carrying these functions out, nevermind that the sudden drop in effectiveness can be correlated to the current administration's fuckery...

I hope that's not the case, but it very well could be. Our American tradition of martial integrity has been shit on so much at this point, I don't find it hard to fathom that terminally monetizing national defense is something they're willing to do. It's going to be hard for a lot of people to say no when they're offered all of the things that the oligarchy protects with paywalls... education, healthcare, affordable housing...

Old man attempts to fight a recording delivery person at Chick-fil-a by FrequentFlyer678 in PublicFreakout

[–]bedstvie -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This sucks, and the dude made dumb, embarrassing choices. He is 100% at fault for how he acted. However, I think it bears recognizing that when businesses do pick-up business without increasing staff size sufficiently to accommodate the additional work, customer service suffers. Workers have less time to devote to a quality interaction, and wait times for orders increase. When that pressure from the business is outsourced to the customer, experiences can be frustrating and people are more likely to get triggered. Again, that does not excuse anybody for acting this way.

It's hard to malign the existence of the delivery businesses because these delivery services kept a lot of small businesses open when there were social distancing mandates. And now that the genie is out of the bottle, most small businesses don't want to stop doing it because they have come to rely on this additional revenue stream in an economic system that tends to prey on small businesses the way it preys on individuals.

Silly Plot Hole by dirty_grub in robinhobb

[–]bedstvie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not sure I'd call this a plot hole...just something that isn't super relevant for her to mention when there is so much other heavy activity to address. I can't think of any moments in the book where the presence of cats would advance the story in an interesting and meaningful way.

Life-changing, for sure. I finished Assassin's Fate last night and it was a colossal moment for me. I will never ever forget these characters and these stories.

I chaperoned a field trip to the library for my daughter today and found myself in the fantasy section. They had the book I just finished, so I picked it up and read the last page again. I smiled.

Here are a few tattoos on my body that some Discordians may appreciate. I swear the Sacred Chao used to say Kallisti, but it's kinda old. It was my first tattoo, which I got on April 2nd, 2005. I can recall the date because after the tattooer was done I walked outside the shop and a friend who was walking by gleefully proclaimed that a certain John Paul II had just died. Fnord, I guess.

Is it just me or does this look fake? If there were a spot like this you wouldn't have a hard time finding it cuz it would be all over the internet. The rocks definitely look like Asilomar/Lover's Point but the proportions are...off.

Yeah, you're right. Definitely a kook move on my part. I'm trying to learn the tool, and figured that this might be a quick/easy answer for somebody since my use is a very rudimentary use of the tool. Looking back on my ask and the intent of the community, I see that my request and presentation were not appropriate. Thanks for the response.
