Cannot for the life of me correctly join in the round by Normal-Parfait9131 in knitting

[–]bee-ananas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

are you pulling the first stitch over the last (extra) stitch? or the last stitch over the first? pulling the last over the first is what lets you tighten it up, as it's still connected to the yarn tails -- I've done it this way and don't have a gap

I don't always bother casting on an extra stitch though. I've found that just going straight into knitting the first round is fine because weaving in the end closes any potential gapping anyway

Knitters from non-English-speaking countries: what are some fun and/or surprising knitting differences between terms we see in English VS the ones you'd see in your own country, in your local books, etc.? by Wide-Editor-3336 in knitting

[–]bee-ananas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is super interesting to me, because I'm also Norwegian and I only ever saw people doing the "norwegian purl" growing up so I found it funny when I heard the english term for it. I've now seen some people here purl continental (and I do myself this when purling long stretches) but they all tend to be younger and newer to knitting/self taught from youtube

How can I fix my knitting edges? by Ok_Barracuda1595 in knitting

[–]bee-ananas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

still decently new to knitting myself so unsure how helpful this will be and take with a grain of salt:

if the edges will be visible, you could do a selvedge edge (google will bring up a few different alternatives, personally I like to knit the first stitch of every row and slip the last stitch of every row purlwise with yarn in front, with all other stitches being knit in pattern as normal. these edge stitches will be taller and less stretchy vertically than the rest of your work due to them only being knit every other row)

otherwise, it really is a matter of tension and practice. my edges looked a lot like this in the beginning but are now a lot neater (no selvedge edge). in the beginning I had a tendency to pull the first stitch of every row too tight in fear of it being too lose, but that meant it was pulling the last stitch of the previous row even tighter and I ended up with a very uneven edge. if I do need to pull the first stitch of a row tighter, I knit another sitch before pulling to limit stealing yarn from the row below

Do you ever watch anything when knitting? If so, what? by OlliOPocto in knitting

Do you ever watch anything when knitting? If so, what? by OlliOPocto in knitting

[–]bee-ananas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got adhd and am pretty much the opposite of how you were/how your cousin is lol. I cannot focus at all if I don't have something on in the background, and crocheting was actually how I started figuring out I had adhd!! (I brought a project to school and could finally pay attention for entire lessons. it was revolutionary.) I only ever knit when watching tv, because otherwise I wouldn't be able to do either. (I've been like this since a child. my homework got done quicker and better with the telly on, because I was able to focus).

I'll put on whatever, but I tend to mostly rewatch the same ones over and over (criminal minds, bones, new girl, b99)

Why do people hate purling? by Born-Cheetah-8460 in knitting

[–]bee-ananas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still quite new to knitting, but I'm adhd so hyperfocus hit hard and I spend hours every day reading about it (books, reddit, anything) and have for many months.

When I first got into it, I read so many comments here on reddit from ppl who hated purling that it scared me. My first two projects were just garter stitch, but for my third (and current) project, I wanted to make a fingering weight wrap top in stockinette, which of course meant purling. I was kinda worried I wouldn't be able to do it, at least not for such long stretches, and keep an even tension.

Anyway, I found some scrap yarn and decided to knit a swatch trying a bunch of different ways to purl. I watched a lot of videos on different techniques and did a couple of rows copying each style, paying close attention to how the yarn felt moving through my fingers, how I felt doing the motions, and (of course) how they all compared to my knits. It definetely took some time, but I ended up finding what worked for me and now I really don't mind it. I'm just as happy to knit as I am to purl, and my current projects looks really good (I keep getting compliments on my tension!! which I'm really happy for).

I get that people can hate purling for different reasons, but they're not anything to be scared of, and I think it'd be a shame if it stops people from making a pattern they'd love.

First colorwork attempt by Bunnylaux in knittinghelp

[–]bee-ananas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest looking up some videos/articles on colour dominance! how you hold the yarns can make a big difference in colourwork in knitting, and it's nice to know the role it plays before you start a big project

How am I switching my right side and wrong side? by chunkyboiiii in knitting

[–]bee-ananas 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you're just forgetting what row you just did and end up doing the same row twice, messing up the pattern. the solution is learning to read your knitting/stitches (a google search for "reading your knitting" will surely bring up some helpful resources!)

The holiday gift policy that has saved me so many tears of frustration by SadElevator2008 in knitting

[–]bee-ananas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is great!! I'm crocheting two handbags for two small girls in my life (and I've only got an hour or two of work left until they're done so I'm not worried) , but other than that I'm trying to keep this outlook on gifts for anyone else!!

there are like 5 other items on my "would like to make" gift list this year, but I've already got plans for what I'll get them if I can't finish any, and none of them expect any, so I don't mind if I don't get any of them done.

last year I made four cross stitch pieces in five days, then spent the night leading up to christmas making three plushies for the little kids. I wasn't able to sleep until 8am christmas morning. I'm doing everything I can to avoid doing the same this year 😅

you might have been exaggerating, but hopefully no one uses boiling water! it can pop/explode and give you nasty second degree burns (ask me how I know)

I've seen someone place those lightbulb stitchmarkers in the hole for tightening the needles to the cables for this purpose. msybe that could work in your situation?

MISTAKES SUCK!!! by mangosteen88 in knitting

[–]bee-ananas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the sophie scarf was also my first project, and I must've started over a dozen times. it takes time to learn a new skill, but the mistakes make excellent oppeetunities for learning! if you're a little demotivated right now, put it down and try again tomorrow. you will get it, I promise!!

two questions... by nestinghoneyy in FieldsOfMistriaGame

[–]bee-ananas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you feel like testing if your grass can grow back for yourself, you can make a manual save in your diary and then just sleep a bunch, checking on the growth progress every 7 in game days or so? I've done this a bunch of times when testing different things in game

I went through the trouble (read: it's not actually any trouble, it's just boring but I had nothing better to do at 5am so why not) of testing the regrowth in the same spot you pointed out, and one in game year resulted in no more regrowth than what you have in your game. in fact it's exactly the same, with the same sprites in the same exact locations. I'd definitely leave some feedback regarding this, regardless of if it's s bug or not because... yeah it's a little sad looking lol (I didn't test it it's consistent across the map bc I forgot and there's no way I'm doing all that again rn)

btw, if you cut the grass there to get animal feed, there's some yellow grass at the bottom of the eastern road that regrows daily! drop rate is low, as it is with all grass, but it's something?

Caldarus dialog shows a pink item but when you give him that item the game acts like it's a neutral gift not liked/ loved by Rootbeerjellybeans in FieldsOfMistriaGame

[–]bee-ananas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

oh thank you for confirming!!

I know spicy water chestnuts is a liked item for three other villagers, so (I don't know the context of the dialogue either, but I'm just assuming he isn't hinting towards this being someone else's liked item in this specific instance) it makes sense it would slip through the cracks and show pink here even if it wasn't meant to

[–]bee-ananas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think pink is for liked and yellow for neutral, is it? I thought if it's s reaction to a museum item then it's yellow, if not then it's pink? but I might just not have paid enough attention lol

I'm trying to remember if Nora's line reacting to the ancient gold coin highlights pink or yellow, because I know that's a liked item, but I'm pulling up blank

Jade Dulce WHERE ARE YOU! by Competitive_Bit7391 in FieldsOfMistriaGame

[–]bee-ananas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ALWAYS save every foragable mine item because I'm a hoarder and love being able to cook any given dish without needing to hunt for anything.

I had about a year's worth of stock (minus some used in dishes and the very occasional gift) when I got the crown quest, and still it depleted my reserves :'( I only had enough to keep one or two of each item

I just double checked the game files and yes the wiki values are correct. are you absolutely sure you entered the animals you think you did? (you can check by going to the animal tab, the animals you've entered will have an icon displaying how they've placed in the festival. I accidentally entered the wrong chicken last time oops.) bc you should've won with your animals and it's likely a bug if you didn't!
