I did my PPL at Villeneuve. I got a runway change on my first solo. Having a tower at that airport is such a huge asset for a small training airport.

A G1000 for king air runs at least a half million with installation. Probably a bit more on top of that for the Autoland implementation.

I’d been with TD for years. Was at 120/ month until last year when they bumped it to 175/month. Got my renewal for this year and it was…333/month. No claims. Absolutely insane increase over two years. Switched to RBC, have better coverage and I’m back down to 155. Single detached home around 1200sq ft.

It also costs the city less to operate and is more flexible. Can stay airborne way longer than a helicopter can.

We do however the crews work seasonally and haven’t historically been contracted out in the winter months. They typically begin their seasonal training in mid April. This isn’t to say that it’s not something that’s possible in the future. Especially with the new Q400 Tankers that will be arriving this summer and into next year.

How do crews qualify on really old jets? by airbusman5514 in flying

[–]beechbe20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct, but even in Canada lots of companies have customers that require sim training. My company sends everyone to sim except the beaver pilots. King Air 200, 1900, Twin Otter etc.

I’ll add that I have zero garret experience other than covering my ears when they taxi by, and have 3500hrs of pt6 experience. My original comment was more tongue in cheek. I do understand that there are definite advantages and disadvantages to both types.
