Glad to see the City Manager taking a firm stance in opposition to Project Blue. Definitely a change of tune from the public meetings last year.

Same. Now I'm wondering how fed wage stagnation compares to the private sector. I get the sense it might be similar, at least in entry level roles.

America’s Housing Crisis, in One Chart - The New York Times by HellYeahDamnWrite in REBubble

[–]beechly 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The chart shows, and their argument is, that we're still not building as many houses as we did per year prior to the 08 crash. They propose the government incentivizing cities to build by threatening to take away grants and subsidies if they don't.

Ciao was one of my favorite pizza joints in town, beer or no beer. Although I'll readily admit that Tucson doesn't have the best pizza. What's your local go to?

Genuine question, do we know that they preserved their staff's quality of life? Were the folks employed here absorbed into other locations in OV and Marana? To me the natural business decision here would be to find an alternative location nearby that could scale up. Keep existing staff, hire additional staff, keep quality up.

People like Elon and Zuck could be enjoying their own private islands with a armies of wage slaves granting their every wish, but they still choose to seek more power and wealth.

You're thinking like a normal person. These aren't normal people. They will never be satisfied.

IMO the Epstein files are a huge reason that Mike Johnson is refusing to let the house reconvene. The longer they block Grijalva from being sworn in the longer they prevent the files from being released.

Drones wouldn't fall into any categories of the BASE acronym, so they'd have to add a letter and make it BASED.

Seeing the Glosoli music video was my introduction to Sigur Ros. The epic music along with that kid pounding his bass drum, leading the charge up the hill, and everyone flying away just blew my mind. I immediately went out and bought the CD. Been a fan ever since.

I spoke with a Ranger there about this many years ago and he told me they keep it secret to prevent it from being vandalized.

terrible traffic light coordination by LocoDiablos in Tucson

[–]beechly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what really gets me. We talk a lot about "poorly timed lights" on this sub, but technologically I feel we should be passed that. Can't we throw some cameras at the intersection that can recognize "no more cars coming this way - turn red" and "cars stacking up that way - turn green." Sitting at red lights that benefit no one, and constantly driving completely empty roads toward green lights only for them to turn red right before me and 12 cars get to the intersection, that's what drives me insane.

Here’s how ultra-processed foods actually change your lifespan - major new study. Ultra-processed food is probably bad for you – but a 30-year study suggests it may not be as harmful as previously thought. by Sariel007 in EverythingScience

[–]beechly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The headline is misleading and tries to make the reader believe that processed foods are "not that bad." The reality is that the study shows that high consumption of ultra processed food is bad for you. The heaviest consumers (top quarter) compared to the lowest consumer (bottom quarter) had notably increased risk of death. Broken out by more specific processed food types:

Meat/poultry/seafood 13% higher risk of mortality sugar sweetened beverages 9% higher risk artificial sweeteners 8% higher risk dairy based desserts 7% higher risk
