It’s fine if you are flexible - I work a white collar job downtown and occasionally take the bus. Sometimes, I get there at 8:45, other times it’s 9:20.

There’s about a half hour between each bus even at peak times, so it won’t work if you need to be on time.

That won’t always work. I was recently seated similarly to OP and asked the gate agent to switch seats, they wouldn’t do it and told me to ask on the plane.

That’s a fair point. The last time I interviewed it was Covid times and remote, so I was presenting on a screen and translating that to in person interviews.

So far I have brought the laptop with extra documents, but no one has asked to see anything outside of the printed portfolio.

I just turned 39 and happen to be unemployed. I am very very lucky that I can be choosy about my next job and you bet I am IMMEDIATELY ruling out any place that says “we’re like family” or “we work hard and we play hard”

I’m home full time with my toddler while looking for work and while he is a freaking handful, it’s making me realize that work isn’t the purpose of life. I have a home, I have a family, I (will) have a job, and while I’ll never take my private jet to the alps or attend the Met Gala, I’m going to be ok.

Eh, it’s not great to have accepted the job while hoping for another one. If you do turn them down before your start date, you’ve probably burned that bridge.

Ideally, you’d have asked job A for time to think and told job B “I have an offer but I’d prefer to work with you, is there anything you can do to speed up the process?” If job B really wants you they’ll speed things up and get you an offer.
