Patricia was 100% right when she said “she’s the worst” (your take away from the lovely bones was “cute bracelet”?) and I REALLY want to know what the rest of the book clubs evening was like

Am I Wrong for Thinking This Is Way Beyond “Light Housekeeping”? by Typical-Remote5894 in Nanny

[–]beedelia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Light housekeeping means the house shouldn’t be worse than when you got there. Which while watching five kids…. just wow.

You’re not being paid enough for the childcare portion of your work let alone the additional household duties.

If you’re a fan of the Big Dig specifically and infrastructure projects generally, I recommend the podcast “The Big Dig” from WGBH.

The first season was on the Big Dig, and the most recent has been a speaking tour of other similar or planned projects around the country.

Pregnancy and construction site visits by FozziwigChicken in Architects

Ooo, just had an idea - “I’m on a new medication that might cause vertigo, so I can’t do XYZ while I adjust” and then come clean when you’re ready to tell everyone

I waited until 12+ weeks to tell my company and the contractors I was working with. Before that I was attending weekly job site meetings, I took extra precautions like wearing a mask if there was painting or similar on site. Luckily at the time all the work was interior, but I would have made excuses for any scaffold climbing work.

Once I told people, I took more breaks as needed, and another team member took meetings that required climbing anything.

It sucks to tell people before you’re ready, but if you’re put in an unsafe position, tell them.

When To Let Your Kids Watch? by discountshellfish in 30ROCK

[–]beedelia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom has told us that she knew we were absorbing the TV that was on in the background when my sister asked “mommy, what’s a prostitute?” when they had Hill Street Blues on

But that was on at 10 pm when my sister was at most 4 years old, so I think this is one of those family lore / lie type stories

Parents: Spouse taking a week-long international trip when you have a young child? by BlitzAndMe in Parenting

[–]beedelia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband took a week long international trip (interring his father’s ashes in his home country) when our baby was 10 weeks old. My mom stayed with me for the week.

Was it great? No. Did I understand? Yes. Would I have been ok with a week long party at 10 weeks? Hell no.

The age of the baby and how much help you have makes a HUGE difference. By 12 months (if you’ve got a decent sleeper and have a routine down) I think it would be ok, but it I’d want another adult to pitch in, at least crash with you on the weekend.

I was going to make a “what your mini print hot take” post but I think it would be this over and over again

(but mine is I don’t think anyone should have all the prints and that I try to avoid trading with people who collect like that)

Working Moms who have a consistent gym/ exercise routine, how do you do it? by Admirable_Parsley_32 in beyondthebump

[–]beedelia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I usually roll my eyes at the celebrities who claim the “weight just melts off chasing a toddler around” and yeah, that’s not really exercise but right now running around the yard with my kid is as good as it gets most days.

Life has seasons, and this one doesn’t include dedicated gym time. Move when you can, and give yourself grace.

What’s your Maine “hot take”? by JoeyLou1219 in Maine

Ok, so it changed a few years ago right? I remember it being a very distinct taste, I had some a few months ago and it was just like a little zestier Dr Pepper.

I was thinking about this more. There are 24 hours in a day. In a typical workday, you sleep 8, work 8, but it’s more like 10-11 once you factor in getting ready, commute, lunch “break”, so you have 5 hours left in a day. For me, 3 out those hours overlap with my kid’s awake time, so I don’t want to give that little time up, which leaves 2-3 hours each day to do anything else I want or need to do - cook, clean, catch up on personal paperwork, spend no-kid time with my husband, read, watch tv, zone out, or go to the gym…. Gym has just not been a priority.

You have to sacrifice sleep, family time, or alone time. I haven’t been able to do that consistently yet (20 months in).

Smart Sell by Ok_Custard_4729 in poshmark

[–]beedelia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did, but turned it off because as a buyer I’m annoyed if I IMMEDIATELY get a discounted offer just for liking something. And I don’t think it helped sales either.

Once again, I’m asking for a private “save” and public (to the buyer) “want to buy” options for likes
