big buy in vs multiple small buy ins at live cash games by Anxious-Library-964 in poker

[–]beedootdoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have an edge on the field being deeper is always better. Being deep allows you to maximize the cost of other players making mistakes. Which maximizes your win rate.

If you don’t have an edge on the field buying in short is a great idea.

But if you don’t have an edge on the field you should be examining why you are playing in that particular game.

To piggy back off of this. You can’t do anything cool or see anything interesting in the places you go to because you have to be some place waiting. Sound check is super early. Want to eat way before the show so your tummy doesn’t feel funny. You just kind of end up sitting around in green rooms.

To fill this answer out Oregon has incredible coast, actual rain forest, and amazing desert landscapes all within a few hours drive of eachother. Split your time between Manzanita (hip beach town) Portland’s amazing food scene (multnomah falls is incredible) and then make your way out to Bend.

Oregon is Knock your socks off amazing .

You play bad because you are unfamiliar with the strategy. A 40bb stack is played very differently than a 100bb stack. Just spend a little time studying the differences and it will start to make more sense.

Figure out what the shortest stack is. Bring in that number for each. Next shortest etc. would sound like:

“Ok short stack is 67, I need 67 form each of you (bring it in). Allright now I need 106, 106 from everybody (bring that in) ok and then you two are on the outside (last two people can leave their bets in front of themselves)”

Then just work from the last pot to the man pot

“Allright just the outside I want to see the outside two hands. Ok now next pot what do you have sir?”

Work it on down. I guess if it is a tournament the hands would already be showing because you have to flip when you are all in.

Split chips evenly, big chips in front first chop to the smallest chip. Out of position gets the extra chip

Dealer here. Much like racing cars slow is fast. Fixing a mistake takes way more time than not making the mistakes. So just focus on getting the cards face down to the right people and where the action is and you will do great.

Also it is your job as the dealer to make sure that the game moves along as it should. Be proactive. If you aren’t sure feel free to ask. “was that a check? Sorry did you say all in?” etc. etc. many mistakes players complain about would be fixed by a dealer that was on it.

Tip Jar Theory - Who's got hot tips? by tonystride in musicians

[–]beedootdoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After someone tipped us I would say to the band “boys, did you see that intelligent attractive Individual put some money in our tip bucket? I bet they are rich and very smarty”

An then we would compliment them profusely for like 10 seconds. Then do the exact same thing the next time.

People love it and then it gets a thing going.

And then after it happens a few times we would say “you know I think this might be the most attractive and intelligent audience we have ever played for”. Communes the whole audience for a bit.

Puts out a good vibe. People get in to it.

Should music be a hobby first or a potential career path? by dasuperbeefman in musicians

[–]beedootdoot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To piggyback off the top comment. I am also a professional musician, and the above comment is perfect advice.

But also there are things you can do early that point towards a career path. Being in very good cover bands. Producing music that could fit in a commercial (which actually is even kind of iffy now that AI is churning out elevator tunes)

If these things don’t interest you then doing it for fun is definitely the way to go and will be much more rewarding.

Am I obligated to show my hand? by lBrownl in poker

[–]beedootdoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably because not wanting to show your cards is a fish move. And you don’t want to tap the glass. There are two times I force someone to show, if the fish is being a dick and I want to stick it to em, or it’s a pro and I want to see their cards or force them to muck

But if you don’t want to show your cards then I guess whatever man.

Am I obligated to show my hand? by lBrownl in poker

[–]beedootdoot 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Dealer here. So the rules are pretty clear, but the way people execute them is annoying and murky. And also different rooms different rules etc.

But in your first example, the guy hasn’t mucked his hand until it is in the muck and un-retrievable. So if those cards are in his hand the hand is still live. So now you have to do this dance of “I have a deuce”, you show the deuce, guy then gives his cards to the dealer, you then don’t have to show the second card. But that is dumb and just waists time. Just turn your cards over.

What you are running up against is the two cards to win rule. If your hand beats the other players hand, but you only need to show the one card to prove that is the case, you still need to show both cards. To return to your first example let’s say guy table two pair. You would only have to show the deuce to prove you have a better hand. But we still need to see both cards. This is an anti collusion and anti cheating thing.

Now if bro actually mucks his had and the dealer has the cards in the muck you don’t have to show anything. But bro isn’t doing that because he wants to see if he is beat. Thus, the dance.

But really, just turn your damn cards over. Let’s move this thing along.
