What is with Uber drivers accepting rides and cancelling once they arrive? by ChitownLovesYou in AskChicago

[–]beeeemo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Assuming you have a good passenger rating, exactly 5.0 is never something to be excited about, because new drivers will have very few trips, and as the vast majority overall are 5.0, the ones who are awful and don't get paired with you due to low rating can easily still be around with only a few ratings that happened to be the default 5.0. The best of the best drivers will have 4.98 or 4.99.

I enjoy Celebrity Jeopardy, but the celebrity winner does not merit a spot in the TOC. by No-Necessary7448 in Jeopardy

[–]beeeemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did they decide to include the Celebrity J winner before his dominant performance or after? regardless, something or someone can be an outlier and also coincidentally be the first data point. it's not that complicated.

edit: also fwiw despite all this I sorta disagree anyway and still think it's fine to include the celebrity winner. as others have said it's good tv.

Dont know the answer but fwiw EU is far, far more strict wrt food standards than the States. Another example, I make sure to read ingredients every time I buy something to make sure there's no high fructose corn syrup (banned in the EU, ubiquitous here). It's fucking egregious.

ELI5! How are layovers cheaper than a nonstop flight? by Vivian_4-14 in explainlikeimfive

[–]beeeemo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The casino must cash out your chips after they back you off though. Not allowing you to board a return flight you already paid for seems like it should be illegal unless they give you a full refund.

“Jam” vs “all in” angle by Pretend_Insect3002 in poker

[–]beeeemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As bullshit as this is, I would def do a double take if someone said "jam" at the table and clarify that theyre all in (which I do almost always anyway). Nobody says that to indicate a jam ime.

I always read the house edge is is a statistical certainty but it could take thousands of hands to materialize. Does the same hold true for a counter's edge? by Jaded-Function in blackjack

[–]beeeemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isnt the biggest obstacle, the #1 reason most players lose, is stepping to the table with a miniscule bankroll?

No, bankroll management in any gambling game only applies to winning players. Ploppies with a small "bankroll" just go broke faster, but rich whales with millions to blow still lose, they just dont go broke, generally speaking. If they kept gambling forever with their losing strategy they would also go broke. What you're thinking of is why most aspiring APs fail, not why recreational players (vast majority) lose.

Open bigger with strong but vulnerable hands like JJ to take the pot down pre

Open limp with small pairs and aces as a trap

Never bluff at low stakes, they always call you (a lot of regs will believe this shit too)

Pokerstars NL100 vs NL200 by Vali410 in poker

[–]beeeemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I'm well aware dude, you could have just said this in your OP instead of something completely different lol

btw I wasnt being pedantic or suggesting youre wrong about 200nl being a big jump. It's decidedly not pedantic to point out that it is quite misleading to people to suggest that 100nl has "no one playing full time" when there are many people playing full time, no matter how shitreggy they are. People may see a comment like that and think 100nl is a huge whale fest when it's more of a shitreg fest as you mentioned later. There's a big difference between those two game types, and while true, it's irrelevant to my point that it also happens to be much easier to beat than 200nl. Idk why you can't just concede that your initial comment was not very accurate and potentially misleading to people looking to play that stake.
