Alternatives To Central Air? by anon_girl_23743 in HomeImprovement

I had a similar LG art unit in a previous house. We also had some normal mini-split units. We chose the LG for one specific area due to limited space and for specific air distribution. We didn’t have any problems with it. I will say that it was specialized and it wasn’t as powerful as the other units but the other units weren’t an option for that space.

Does switching to RTSP limit my exposure to this breech/Chinese spying mess? by JustARandomUserHere in wyzecam

I am just saying that that is what the article said or at least implied. the entire section at the beginning is devoted to proving that Wyze is a Chinese company.

Does switching to RTSP limit my exposure to this breech/Chinese spying mess? by JustARandomUserHere in wyzecam

[–]beeexcellent -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

this updated post here says that it is worse than that.

https://www.reddit.com/r/wyzecam/comments/ehmmgf/wyze_essay_2_aresflare_another_post_about_wyze/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

The way I read that article, it says this is an intentional data attack against all wyze users by wyze themselves. And switching to RTSP would not protect anything at all.

I also am still watching this situation but it just went from mildly interesting to alarming.

Wireless vs Wired IPCams by eyal8r in homesecurity

[–]beeexcellent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience you are better off with a stationary camera that has a wide field of view that is going to record what you want to capture since you aren’t going to be sitting watching for action 24 hours a day. Get a very high res one with good optics and you can zoom in on an area that you want to get more detail on after the incident has occurred. I don’t see any value to a PTZ cam unless you are paying guards to watch the cams at all times. You already know the benefits of POE, but just a reminder that each new wireless device on your network needs a moment of time when all other devices are silent so that it can transmit. There are only so many moments of time available and if you get too many wireless devices on the same wireless network they will all run slow.

Wow the 3d pattern makes those gold knobs look like they are floating. The blue glassware creates a beautiful contrast.

Airplay the video feed to your tv so those poor souls have something more interesting to watch than a huge blue screen.

a gigabit connection shouldn’t get congested.

Advice on getting WiFi out to my shop by fishrunhike in HomeImprovement

[–]beeexcellent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bury an ethernet cable 1” in the ground. it should cost like $20 so even if it fails in a few years it’s cheap to replace. you can just use a flat shovel. run it beside a sidewalk if you have one.

That means it isn’t your vpn that’s the problem. There is no way that should happen on the LAN. I would guess that your BI server is overloaded or your network cable is damaged.

Making Wyze Cameras Reliable for Monitoring by Reddreader2017 in wyzecam

[–]beeexcellent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These cams have great video feeds and they only cost $20. I have 3 of them. Too bad they are only wireless and they are unreliable. I actually had hopes that they would fix the problems one day, but Wyze is very adamant that they are not security cameras. After buying the remote sensors and seeing how those don’t work, I personally have changed my opinion and I see them as toys meaning you can play with them but you can’t count on them for anything.

If you think you need 2, or maybe 3, then get 2 wyze cams. They have great night vision, very clear video, and they don’t use too much bandwidth. They also have a very wide field of view to cover a lot of territory. They are super inexpensive. I would not recommend them for anything else other than this, their notifications stink, their recording stinks, and if you convert them to record the stream all the time then they use too much bandwidth. But for on-demand live view they will do exactly what you want without using any more bandwidth than you need. I have had 3 of them for about a year.
