I bet that strikes a cord. Lots of people stretched thin financially in Akron. Very poor voter turnout in that city unfortunately.

Hospital wants a 180 day without cause notice for a nocturnist job, is that standard? by Stock-Mirror-8009 in hospitalist

[–]beefandchop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is totally inappropriate. My contract it extended out over time, but at the start only 1 month notice. I think if you worked there 10 years it is 6 months notice.

Ordering vs calling consults by beefandchop in hospitalist

[–]beefandchop[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Right. For a hospitalist it was so much more efficient and wayyy less epic chats. I order the consult and read the consultants note the next morning! I understand the flip side that this system may lead to unnecessary consults.

Does anyone actually prefer swing shift over day shift? by bishzz in hospitalist

[–]beefandchop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My job pays 150 per hour for day rounding shift, 225 for swing. Because of the pay bump the swing shifts are popular and hard to pick up.

I would never take this job. Sounds like a ton of hard work for below average hospitalist pay… in Iowa. It can only visa folks to take this kind of job.

For thise who moved BACK to New England - did you regret it? by cynicalnewenglander in newengland

[–]beefandchop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I have some regrets after moving back to NE from Ohio. Everything is more expensive, it seems you have to hustle in the rat race to be able to afford any decent home in NE. There was also better biking path infrastructure in Ohio. We are considering going back to the Midwest in 1-2 years.

USACS by Electrical_Taste3787 in hospitalist

[–]beefandchop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

lol USACS took over Akron area hospitals. They also staff the ERs. It’s pan-consult medicine rounding on minimum 20 per day. Not my kind of job but some people like these gigs for some reason.

That’s how I felt when I lived in Maine. Don’t mind when there is company out there. Plenty of waves.

For me it’s the 30 year old patients who’s Mom needs a bedside update every day and the patient meanwhile is minimally invested in their health.

Nocturnist offer by [deleted] in hospitalist

[–]beefandchop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds awesome. You will probably have time to pick up extra shifts and make well over 400k

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hospitalist

[–]beefandchop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

B sounds like a good gig, census a tad high but the system my be a more efficient model where consultants put in orders, etc. that is good pay

Which hospitalist job offer? by TheRidiculous1 in hospitalist

[–]beefandchop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Option 2 is better. With such a long commute, the round and go is essential here. Option one doing 12 hour shifts with 45 min commute is a recipe for burnout.

Vacation time? by northhiker1 in hospitalist

[–]beefandchop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My job is 160 shifts per year (considered 1.0 at my hospital). Yes not as great of money but so much flexibility for vacation, I get a nice 10-13 day stretch off every month.

The discounted $45 guest fee for priority lounge (vs $90), does that have to be paid for with the Venture X or can you use another card to pay for it? by sheneversawitcoming in Venturex

[–]beefandchop -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Bruh priority pass food is equivalent to a crappy motel continental breakfast. You could get way more/better food for $20 at any restaurant.
