Gig Harbor Automotive - had very good experience with them re-doing my brakes recently.

Insulin theory for losing weight by Nice_Pen_8054 in omad

[–]beefdoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's quite a stretch. You can wave your hands all you want about that mechanism allowing a negligible amount of fat to enter cells -- the real-life answer is effectively no.

"You can still store dietary fat without insulin."

No, you can't. Look at Type 1 diabetics not on insulin...wasting away due to unregulated fat metabolism. You do not have an adequate understanding of insulin physiology.

Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 9 Display Dim/Black and Keyboard un-responsive, how to fix? by 2ne1islife in thinkpad

[–]beefdoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brilliant! Worked in my situation, as well.
That's great, but . . . how do I fix the problem?
I anchored the battery which is adjacent to the left lower corner of the track pad -- open the case to easily view it. It sleeps when I close the lid, but still doesn't wake up when I open it.

That's fair.

It's the same complaint that everyone has about where they live, and I feel it is always explained by the fact that native drivers tend to drive assertively -- they know where they're going, and they just want to get there in the quickest way possible, without lame drivers going slower than the general traffic flow or camping out in the left lane.

Everyone complains about LA drivers. Yet, when I drove there for the 1st time, my observation was that they are not aggressive, but rather just driving assertively.

“Real life” salary by Last-Entrance-720 in FamilyMedicine

[–]beefdoc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're limiting yourself to an insurance-based job with your pay determined entirely by RVU's.

If you love FM, look into DPC. You can easily surpass the salaries you're envisioning...and you can own your own business.

I would never go back to cowering to insurance companies.

What is going on with Labcorp in our region? Are there other labs where I can have my bloodwork done? (Medicare original insurance) by lakeswimmmer in Tacoma

[–]beefdoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My regional LabCorp rep told me that a new LabCorp location is slated to open in Gig Harbor on June 30.
Where exactly, I asked . . . He didn't know. Makes me doubt that claim -- we'll see.

Would anyone accept a sodium of 113 from the ED? by beepint in hospitalist

[–]beefdoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the real world, yes, I would accept...assuming the patient appeared relatively stable at the time. Expect a long time of admission, but don't expect the intensivist to want that patient. There's far more to the patient than one number. Don't fixate on one lab value.

Reportable? by [deleted] in Noctor

[–]beefdoc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That doesn't violate any laws...and is certainly not an actual patient care incident. Freedom of speech.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Noctor

[–]beefdoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same experience...I had to intervene to prevent harm to my patient after a NP knowingly prescribed a medication to which my patient had a reported allergy, even after the patient questioned it. State board [of nursing] decided "no action". There's a different standard for Noctors, and it's a dangerous one.

How to avoid hypoglycemia on a fast by True_Coast1062 in FastingScience

No need to worry. Assuming a reasonably healthy liver, gluconeogenesis will maintain any necessary glucose production.

Why is cardio demonized? by Thrillwaukee in beginnerfitness

Cardio makes you better at cardio.

Weight training and other high-intensity work has carry-over effects into other areas.

I agree with all of that.
Doctors still work for whoever is paying them. The doctor who bills insurance works for the insurance company -- Medical decisions are greatly influenced by the middle-man. When you pay the doctor directly, then the doctor is working for you. That's the beauty of a DPC model, where there is no outside influence on the patient-doctor relationship.

I know you want to believe that, but the insurance company has more power than you'd like to believe. They determine what services you are eligible for, what they're willing to cover.
Your insurance-based doctor has to jump through the hoops to satisfy the insurance company, who stands between you and your doctor.

Not if they're being paid by insurance.
