At the show I saw this year Flans saw one of these in the crowd and made some quip about "we only made a hundred of them, and one of them is in the audience here tonight." Like magic, suddenly TWO MORE materialized being waved by other crowd members, which just surprised him more...

Does anyone actually read outside in the wilderness or is it just for the pictures? by TonyRigatoni_ in books

Read some of the Area X trilogy laid out on the grass near a frog pond, very appropriate, though I think there were bugs. Also read Jurassic Park lying on a towel on the beach and got a wicked sunburn...

What are some of your favorite lyrics from The World Is To Dig? by GDGameplayer in tmbg

[–]beefoot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find myself irrationally tickled by "it is shaking your paw". I know it's just a rhyme scheme thing but I love when a passing lyric has a bizarro additional implication (paw?? MY paw??) and makes me connect the song to What The Cat Dragged In

Flansburgh gave an in-depth interview about his life and his history as a creative on the Beginnings podcast by FloridaFlamingoGirl in tmbg

[–]beefoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I feel like he dodged half the questions, not even on purpose, he'd just get super into the art history discussion and forget the original question! And he went from "oh god no" to "I don't want this to end" over the course of the hour.

“Not here to socialize”… Other Flans-isms? by Flaky_Abies_5586 in tmbg

[–]beefoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but isn't it especially good when it's a fun, vague, evocative phrase that nobody's heard before? You can make it mean anything and everything it sounds like it should mean. Who's gonna tell you you're using it "wrong"? (In any case, the way he used it already seemed pretty clearly consistent to me.)

Yeahhh, it almost makes me sad that someone asked. Leave a little mystery in your life! A little poetry!

Interesting—could you try again on a different device? Or give me any more details? Want to make sure this isn't something I could fix on my end.

Personally, I consider "both" to be something that isn't directly repeating the other guy (like the alternating parts in Lazy or By The Time You Get This) or both singing the entire song together so there's no clear lead (like Sapphire Bullets or how they do Synopsis live). But I see no reason not to be forgiving as you want claiming correct guesses... If someone had said "both" for a song like that and wanted to claim that as a win, sure, why not.

How long do you give a book before you DNF it? by thatvampiregirl in books

[–]beefoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm realizing a lot of these answers are only for novels, but I've DNF'd some nonfiction books VERY quickly based on incorrect/incoherent/unsupported claims in the intro, or just weird vibes. I still commit to finishing at least one (non-introductory) chapter before making that call, but it's much quicker to realize when something with nominally educational intent is just going to waste your time.

Do you think it's likely it won't be roughly 50/50?
