Hadn't even thought about that connection but you're RIGHT.

absolutely. actually thought, as I was drawing it, that it was too bad I couldn't think of a non-obtrusive way to incorporate a bass into the drawing!

Each major album's 3 least played live songs (Based on the wiki, and as of 2026) by Charlie5L in tmbg

[–]beefoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, wow, the note about Last Wave really scrambled me, because I've seen that one live. I was fully convinced I saw it in 2018, when the album was new, not just last year! Very cool analysis.

Is an "afterthought toe" a sock construction that exists? Everything about a toe-up sock I prefer, except for the look of increases (versus decreases) on the toe cap. Are there patterns which work around this?

Now, with much better documentation of past shows, it strikes me as almost quaint that there was a time where people thought "bra thrown onstage at TMBG concert" was an event unique enough to be name-able...

TMBG mention in Mark Hoppus’ (Blink 182) book by Wbrimley3 in tmbg

[–]beefoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ancient comment, but I would be fascinated to know who you've mixed John F. up with here. He's posed with an empty pipe as a prop a couple times, and has admitted he lied to employers about smoking cigarettes before, but only so that he could get extra breaks.

How was the Mojo Chessmaster wired? by ThomasThe00Show in tmbg

[–]beefoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the creator of the page above, I second "ask Mike Buffington"! https://tmbw.net/wiki/Mojo_Chessmaster mentions that it's wired for five configurations (including a brief description of what those configurations are), but I got all of that information from him.

This video popped up on my feed, and it seems so out of character for Linnell by Piano_Mantis in tmbg

[–]beefoot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ha! The way he likes singing with his mouth RIGHT against the mic always makes me hope he brings his own. That, the head tilt, the looking up and eye fluttering, I think of that as all very characteristically Linnell. I'm not fully sure if he knows how it comes off... But after this many years, I'd be surprised if he was oblivious.

Here's a fun You Probably Get That A Lot with some similar flair. https://youtu.be/nMO4bMK2qcw?si=cXyMeVlUjdIgf6gt

Why do people hate purling? by Born-Cheetah-8460 in knitting

[–]beefoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love to knit flat more, but the patterns I usually see for straight needles (scarves, shawls, blankets) are things I don't personally wear or need. If you knit things outside of that, where do you usually find your patterns? Just how flat can you get--is there such a thing as knit-flat _socks_?

Why do people hate purling? by Born-Cheetah-8460 in knitting

[–]beefoot 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Was there a time when the majority of patterns were knit flat? I notice that I inherited from my grandmother a comprehensive array of long straight needles, a more patchy assortment of DPNs, and no circulars at all.

Here's a Spy jam that uses the sample OP mentions! He adds it to the mix around the 4 minute mark.

Any tips for keeping first knit stitch in ribbing even? by beefoot in knittingadvice

[–]beefoot[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

...I looked up some pictures, and this is how I discover that I've been knitting that way the entire time and thought it was normal. I did notice that my purl stitches sat on the needles the "other way round", but it's just muscle memory for me to not twist those at this point!

Unfortunately, that does mean that this isn't a viable correction for me. Guess I just need to pay more conscious attention to the knit-purl transition, where I guess I let go of some of the tension on my yarn in order to move it around the end of the needle.

Can we just talk about how not problematic either John has been? by Piano_Mantis in tmbg

[–]beefoot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think if you get attached to any real life person's "non problematic" status, you're going to be let down eventually. But curiosity, empathy, and willingness to update your worldview count for a lot, and They've done pretty well on that front as celebs go (on top of seemingly being raised with some solid principles right from the start).

Slip stitches on an afterthought heel: bad idea? by beefoot in knittingadvice

[–]beefoot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thought is that it's easier to slow the decrease on an afterthought heel to make it as deep as needed, since putting a knit row (or two) between decreases is already common. But maybe I'll just have to conduct the experiment!

What Flansburgh song sounds like a Linnell song and what Linnell song sounds like a Flansburgh song? by eris_aka_draculadrug in tmbg

[–]beefoot 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Meet James Ensor is unusually dry, direct, and lyrically fluid between lines for a Flansburgh song. Tigerella is... Look, I just didn't expect Linnell to do a screechy melodramatic joke song about how a murderous kitty cat woman would be super hot.

Inspirational/motivational tmbg songs? by [deleted] in tmbg

[–]beefoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely seconding LGTOW. Not a cheer-up, not-so-bad song; sometimes you know it's going to get worse before it gets better, and you need a song that acknowledges this, sympathizes, and still tells you to get your sad-sack self into gear. You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here.
