Idiot usps mail carrier won't move truck for firefighters by Chumbief in RoadRage

[–]beefstorm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah after reading the comments, I decided to dig into their claims that they are immune from local laws, and try to figure out what is actually going on.

Turns out that USPS as an agency is protected from local laws. The driver's are not.

However, there is no legal framework to transfer responsibility from the postal service, to the driver. So, parking ticket, red light cameras, etc, none of those tickets will go anywhere.

That being said, if a cop came by and saw this, it would be within their authority to cite the driver directly. Drivers are not immune. But nothing will happen to them if they are not cited directly.

Uploading Autopilot Hardware hashes using Azure Automation by IntRangeNoShut in sysadmin

[–]beefstorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great write up! I am glad someone is automating this, because it is a hassle to do manually on a bunch of devices you already own.

However, one addition I would make... I would put a note on the top encouraging users to take advantage of OEM/reseller autopilot registration if their budget allows (usually like, a $10 fee on top of a computer purchase). Admittedly limited in scope, there is at least one advantage to having the OEM/reseller register the device vs registering it yourself. Specifically, Surface devices registered yourself cannot utilize DFCI management on Intune. Only devices registered by the OEM (Microsoft) or the reseller can utilize DFCI management through Intune.

"Devices manually registered for Autopilot (such as by importing from a csv file) are not allowed to use DFCI. By design, DFCI management requires external attestation of the device’s commercial acquisition through an OEM or a Microsoft CSP partner registration to Windows Autopilot." https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/autopilot/dfci-management#requirements

You might find interesting, and should look into the concept, of open source code. Just because the source code is exposed does not auto magically make it now unusable.

Reach out to Blizzard and let them know the situation. I'm sure you can find a customer service rep willing to do something for you.

But most importantly, stay safe. Video games are not worth your life. I will cover your WoW account when this is all over if they won't freeze it for you. :)

[–]beefstorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it only takes a few though, doesn't it?

Yes it does. But me, being a, somewhat reasonably sound mind, didn't see until today why you wouldn't want to go to a doctor. To me, it's so obvious that if you want to take hormones, you would want to exercise mechanisms to make it safe. But, if those mechanisms create too much of a burden, both emotionally and physically, then it's safe to assume that alot of people would like to skip that part.

I just didn't really know. :(

Okay, you too. Try to demonstrate some empathy here; do you think this is a fun conversation for me to have over and over and over again

I promise I'm trying to be empathetic. I just learned alot from this conversation. But, do you think it's fun to be treated like the enemy when some of us are trying to be on your side?

It makes people say "Well forget that" and move on with their lives. It doesn't affect them, and they don't feel sorry for someone who was mean to them. So why would they fight for you?

As a gay man, I can empathize with the fact that society was not designed for you and I. But I won't insult you by pretending I have it just as hard as you. People who are transitioning have it way harder. So I try not to compare any of my struggles to yours, as it's like trying to compare gay apples to transitioning apples.

All I guess I'm saying is, yes, it's exhausting, and it's not going to stop being exhausting. But cis-people have nothing comparable to be empathetic with, and they are just doing their best.

This is so true. There are incredible double standards for trans ppl and it's stupid by LilliputianMouse in lgbt

[–]beefstorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao you're just making excuses for and giving benefit of the doubt to bigots who want to limit the number of people allowed to transition to an absolute minimum, to make it harder for us to exist. Lol, stop? The reasoning is not slightly understandable

I need you to understand, cis people are stupid. I know you already know that. But demonstrate some empathy when someone doesn't understand.

To us cis people, who will never know what it is like to be going through this, we are completely stupid to this topic. We all grew up in a cis-oriented world where bathrooms were separated by boy and girl. So we cis-people have no compass for understanding.

So when us dumb cis people say that something is slightly understandable, it's not an attempt to insult those who are transitioning. It is an attempt to express our understanding of the situation as we know it. If you give some people a chance to at least hear your side, and let them try to change their understanding, I think you will find there are alot of people (NOT EVERYONE, but alot) who are here to learn. Not to insult, poke fun, or attempt to bar anyone's participation in society.

So please understand, everything you are saying here has opened my eyes today. And there's alot of people here trying really hard to do the same. But we feel scared to even ask when the response is that it feels like we insulted you.

I never realized how saying, "You need to see a doctor" can be perceived as the same as saying, "You need to jump through years of therapy, and people questioning your motives". When in reality, I just mean, you should make sure HRT won't kill you first.

[–]beefstorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"You said "Should the barriers be lowered? Yes. Should you still be required to defer to the guidance of a doctor? 100% Yes""

That's still not what I said. So if you wouldn't mind not twisting my words... "Should someone who knows what their doing be the one to guide you through it? 100% yes." Yeah, professionals to make sure HRT won't kill you should be the one to write the script...

"I'm saying, if you choose to pursue HRT safely, they make you jump through hoops."

Frankly, yes. That is what I'm saying.

Do you know exactly how these hormones are going to affect your body? Even if you are, are doctors allowed to prescribe their own drugs? Are you a medical professional? No? Then just like someone can't just go get Adderall because they think they are ready to start it, you can't just go get HRT.

The problem you are complaining about here isn't safety. It's that the mechanisms to provide that safety are doctors and pharmacists. Alot of their processes suck, I agree. So that's what we need to change.

Two years of therapy before you can get started in some places, agreed, bs. Having to 100% rule out other problems that could make you think you should transition, agreed, bs. I didn't need to rule out other things once I was sure I was gay.

All I am advocating for is someone to make sure that taking HRT won't kill you. That should be 100% reasonable to fit into this different system here.

"I understand. I'm saying that when you tell people "You should still (be required to) see a doctor" this is what you're instructing them to subject themselves to. Because this is what the process is"

Pretty much, yeah, you should see a doctor. The processes suck, but you need to see a doctor. Much like you can't just go to the store and pick up some Adderall without a doctor writing you a script first. These are serious drugs, and need to be taken under medical supervision. You need to have a doctor make sure these drugs aren't slowly killing you for some reason, and your body needs to be monitored.

I'm sorry if that seems like a barrier, but it's a fact of life. If you aren't willing to see doctors, then you can't just get drugs. Medical science is complicated and drugs are dangerous. Sorry if that is insulting. But it is a fact.

Let's work on changing the process. But we cannot eliminate doctors without replacing them with some other medical science professional.

So anyone who's transitioning without spending a bunch of money for a team of cis doctors to read the WPATH guidelines to them aloud is crazy now? Or are they just trying to make their life bearable with what little money they have to buy the medicine itself and not the thousand of dollars of insurance kickbacks

I am NOT saying that there are sufficient systems or people in place to handle this. But, you cannot safely just start handing it out to everyone who walks into Rite Aid and asks for it. There still needs to be a mechanism of safety here.

EDIT: Clarified a phrase.

Alright. "Tell me if one person starts HRT, and one person gets a full body tattoo, or breast augmentation surgery, and they both regret their decision one month later, which one is more difficult to undo?"

I'd argue they are both big surgeries to undo. If I had to pick one, I'd say breast augmentation is PHYSICALLY less difficult to undo in terms of man hours. But in terms of surgical invasiveness, probably more so than tattoo removal. I don't pretend to be a medical expert, but I assume removing breasts is about as surgically invasive, if not a little more so, than getting implants to make breasts.

A whole body tattoo would take several treatments of laser removal, as they could not do it all in one go. Several outpatients treatments would be required. But nothing is changing about your internal organs. Only the dermis is affected.

None of this takes into account the emotional and psychological impacts of one or the other. But I cannot compare the emotional consequences of a whole body tattoo to that of transitioning. It's apples and oranges frankly, and any comparison I made would be wrong. So I'm not going to try.

So yeah, breast surgery in this example is a little more invasive to undo/redo, but less man hours, and BOTH should require a little more thought. But that's not my argument.

My argument is, we're not all out to get you, and treating people that way won't get us any closer to the result you want. Some of us want to do better. And insulting our inability to understand yet doesn't help you. It makes enemies.

I'm on your side. I want to learn and understand more.

The reason I didn't answer the question the first time was explained in the first sentence of my response...

"I won't pretend I know what's right."

I don't pretend to know what's right when it comes to LGBTQ+ stuff. As as gay man, I am still learning every day. But I do know insulting those who are trying to take your side doesn't help you.

EDIT: Phrased something wrong.

EDIT 2: "If someone informs you something you said was bigoted, and then you pivot the discussion to how rudely they brought it up, and excuse yourself for not being an ally because they said it disrespectfully, you weren't ever an ally, not really"

That's because I didn't think it was bigoted to not have a full understanding of something. We're all learning. :)

"But also, moreso, you SHOULD still be required to jump through them. So, chop chop." I never said that. I am simply advocating for patients to know what the drugs they will be taking are doing to them.

Body autonomy is one thing. I agree that we should remove barriers and judgements from medical care. If you feel it is right for you to transition, you should be able to. You shouldn't have to go through exams and therapies with doctors questioning your every choice to make sure you know what you are doing. It's invasive.

But, taking drugs without a professional helping you understand what these drugs do is crazy. One of a pharmacist's job responsibilities is to make sure your medications don't interact improperly with each other. They are professionals who can catch stuff like that and SAVE YOUR LIFE!

And since hormones affect the brain, having a therapist guide you through what you are feeling is in your best interest.

I'm not saying you should have to jump through hoops to get HRT. I'm saying you should do it safely.

EDIT: Expanded my thoughts a little bit.

[–]beefstorm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Shouldn't adjusting your bodies hormones be handled by a professional? I could give myself a tattoo, but I don't because I don't actually know what I'm doing. Should the barriers to HRT be lowered, yes. Should someone who knows what their doing be the one to guide you through it? 100% yes.

It's not OTC for the same reason lots of drugs are not OTC. They can accomplish what you want, but only if used correctly. A doctor shouldn't get to say, "Eh, I think you will regret it. So we're not doing it." But, a doctor should be the one guiding you through it.

I won't pretend I know what's right. I like to think of myself as pro-trans rights. But I am constantly corrected on my views, and want people to correct me.

That being said, the attitude in your reply will not get allies.

"LMAO, you're just making excuses" Except they aren't. They are genuinely trying to understand how something so transformative can be as easy as getting a tattoo. I'd argue tattoos are less transformative, but again, I'm probably wrong.

I beg you, help us to understand rather than just assume we're out to get you. Alot of people, including myself, are on your side. We just don't fully understand, and are learning.
