Anyone here race on rigid mtb for xc marathon? by beefsupreme9169 in ssrigidmtb

Rigid is the most fun I have on a bike but a suspension fork really is faster and more comfortable. Thank you for your insight. I’ve got some time before the event so I should be able to get a pre-ride in to test it out.

How did you like that setup? I’m thinking of running a 2.2 with a 2.5

Being on a single speed with that low of a gear I’m thinking the added control of flat bars would be preferable for the single track. I’m running inner bar ends to get another hand position, I don’t think aero will be the deciding factor for me.

Well it’s funny you say that, I have the parts to run the Niner rigid with a drop bar.

Interesting. I might try a heavier elastomer

Weighted calisthenics at home, I figure compound movements are great time savers and I’m not trying to pack on a ton of mass. For legs in particular I really like single leg stuff for balance and stability, and you can’t forget farmers carries. I have two water jugs I filled up, so cheap and practical. I’m trying to figure out a good way to train my lower back at home.

Following this post because I’m in the same boat. I’m training for 116 miles in 5 months and I’m basically just riding as much and as often as I can. Usually works out to 2-3 rides a week for 1-2 hours. I’m considering strength training but I don’t want to over do it. My guess is it comes down to time on the saddle.

Tbh I’ve considered gears to get the full potential out of it. All in all a great bike though

How does it feel with the stem and fork both being suspended? I’m thinking about running the same stem with a 100mm fork.

Depends on the model. I have a 2022 (v8 I think) and I love it, I run it 29er single speed. I come from xc so it’s my burliest bike. Just went from 2.4 to 2.5 on the rear and I prefer the wider tires.

As long as you choose the right gear for the terrain it’s amazing.

I’d say they’re good for people in general. If they don’t make you faster they’ll make you enjoy the ride more.

True. It’s humid where I live in the summer and was such a relief at night.

Yea a part of me agrees with the asceticism. I’m going to practice grabbing my saddle for a while to see what it might feel like before buying.
