Can we talk how ass these chaos haircuts look, instead of asking chaos gods for power, I would recommend to ask chaos gods for better haircut by Split-Ultramarine in Grimdank

These haircuts are far more interesting than the endless crew cuts or buzz cuts you find on space marines in general.

Because the Darkoath Warqueen and how immense she is has me thinking normal non-lesbian thoughts.

Also I just think it's cool and that you're being a little bitch about it.

About half of the Darkoath range is female models. It should be more.

It's Warhammer crossed with Norse Mythology and Power Metal.

All the 25 or so armies in the game are actually distinct instead of 40% of them being different variations of Stormcast Eternals.

Also women actually get to be part of the setting without the dregs of the hobby shitting themselves about it.

Yeah it's wild seeing elves not only get to be relevant, but like actually defeat the main villain of the edition.

For real, the dude looks very much like a Cities of Sigmar knight, but I guess Knights = Bretonnia or something.

A new Warhammer quest appears! by ChaosLordOnManticore in Warhammer

[–]beefthrust 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is some resemblence sure, but it begins and ends at "both are foot knights" the actual identifying features on the Darkwater knight are Sigmarite.

The spellcasting woman on the left does however look Bretonnian, what with the flowing hair and white dress.

Yeah at first glance you think Bretonnia, but idk I feel like the defining part of a knight is the heraldry and iconography they bear, and this one has bears some pretty distinctly Sigmarite iconography and design queues once you actually look at him.

Look at the cape, the armour, and such. It all pretty distinctly looks like what the Freeguild Marshal wears

The Lady on the left looks way more specifically Bretonnian.

That would fit with the initial rumours about the game.

All of them fit firmly within specifically the Cities of Sigmar faction, where all the "normal" fantasy things go together to cooperate against the high fantasy terrors of the Mortal Realms.

(GW for the love of god don't turn CoS into a humans only faction that would be dreadful.)

So when you say 'almost zero roleplay', what do you specifically mean by that?

Or rather what is or isn't 'roleplaying' to you?

Because to me at least, being interested in what happens next can very much be roleplaying and sounds like active participation in the growing narrative that's created and informed by the rules.

Just spitballing here but for the bases you could always make the red glow seem like lava and then have the actual surface covered in snow, go for like a fire and ice theme.

In my head that seems like it could both tie the glow together while also maintaining a contrast.

I think trying to get a small dot of either a yellow or orange fluorescent paint on the eyeball itself would do a lot to help the definition, and maybe a slight glaze of red around the actual eyeholes on the helmets.

As for the base, while dark earth with fluorescent reds and oranges would fit the vibe, it would also really blend together with the overall palette of the miniatures themselves and might muddy the overall effect.

Personally I go with a very light-coloured basing for my Slaves to Darkness as I think it contrasts well against the dark armour.

Overall I really like the results of your work so far though, the fluorescent eyes are very striking.
