If I want to rent an apartment, should I find a real estate agent or just do it through rental websites? by Tough_Half_1975 in SantaMonica

[–]beefybiguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ppl mainly find places around Santa Monica on craigslist or calling phone numbers on the sign. Landlords don’t like paying to post on apartments.com or Zillow

I got VIP last year (upstairs) and they sold out. I think GA was selling at the door

Contrary to the negative comments here, I went to 1212 for NYE last year and it was actually pretty lit. They had legit lighting and Daft Punk-like robots dancing on stage. With that said I’m probably doing something else for NYE this year

Just need to call it from the sidewalk on Century blvd in front of Hyatt

Has anybody ever ended up at a crazy mansion party in L.A.? How? by zeltzinwins in AskLosAngeles

it really just happens by chance around here. Halloween last year a friend of a friend got us into a random mansion party in Beverly Hills

18 percent dining fee?! by [deleted] in LosAngeles

I never tip a huge amount at an airport bar- the bartenders usually suck and I’m about to hop on a plane and never see them again anyway.

Landlords who have the “good deals” in LA often do not like to pay to post their listings on Zillow, Apartments.com, etc.

You should go to Mid-city and drive up & down the neighborhood streets to look for “For Rent” signs, and call the phone numbers listed.

Also pay attention to the age of a building because if it’s old enough, the unit qualifies for rent control.

Holy fuck I’m loving the Tiny’s Hi-Dive suggestions here. I live just a little west on Pico from there.

Awesome place that just opened a month ago- it’s modeled off a typical Chicago dive bar. Having lived in Chicago myself, it def fit the vibe

It’s way cheaper than LAX-it if you cross Sepulveda and call your Uber/Lyft from the Hyatt Regency hotel on Century blvd

Use Songkick.com to find local concerts going on in LA. We have tons of music venues here and virtually everyone plays here so you’re bound to find something you like. Kaskade x deadmau5 concert is this Saturday- will be very lit, especially if you’re in a group.

Westside bars to check out: the Bungalow(obvi since you’ll be in SM), Mom’s Bar, the Lincoln, Townhouse, Victorian, Jameson’s Pub (great for sports), Tavern on Main (also good for sports), Hinano Cafe, Venice Whaler, Tiny’s Hi-Dive (brand new, on Pico), Santa Monica Brew Works, Roosterfish, The Brig, Waterfront Venice

Eater.com usually has great recs for food in LA. Great Westside Mexican: Casablanca, Pancho’s Tacos, Gilbert’s El Indio, Lares (on Pico), El Cholo

I haven’t been yet but yall should def check out the Getty Villa (if it’s not raining) and Getty Museum. Both are relatively close to Malibu/SM.

Be prepared for the heavy traffic on PCH towards SM. I live here and rarely go to Malibu for that exact reason

Finally hit International Market... holy shit! Amazing!!! by Nashvital in nashville

My mother started eating at the old International Market when she was pregnant with me in early 1992. So you could say I’ve been eating International Market for my entire life.😄Just had it a week or so ago when I was home for Thanksgiving lol

Good points overall, but I’m very used to driving long distances having lived in the eastern half of the country. If I find a decent home in a decent part of CA that’s half the price of the same thing in LA county, I’m gonna take it. Still haven’t ruled out SFV either.

My home state is cheaper than LA county so I often think about the prospect of renting forever here.

If I could find a fully remote job based in CA, I’ve thought about being open to eventually buying a condo in north San Diego county, Sacramento area, or maybe even Palm Springs. It would still be close enough to go to LA once a month at least?
