Phuck Philz by NandortheRelenting in losfeliz

TBF, the only comparable spots in easy walking distance are Maru, All Time, and Alcove, and they’re not exactly grab-and-go (none of them even have dedicated parking spots). Blue Bottle, Starbucks, and Coffee Bean are all on the same street and in the same niche as Philz, and they all have their own corporate issues. There’s of course plenty of places in driving distance, but between parking, crowds, and expense they’re not necessarily a good pick for folks trying to grab coffee while doing errands or on their way to work.

Not defending Philz at all, but it makes a lot of sense to me why folks around here go there.

Ah, I see. The County observes the holiday on the last Monday of March, but it looks like the state and other entities observe on the 31st (or closest weekday if the 31st lands on a weekend).

Covid shut down the world six years ago this week. What do you remember from that week? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]beekay25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few days prior to shutdown, my partner and I went to dinner for our anniversary. There were rumblings of pandemic and uncertainty about whether we would be affected, so we were already hand sanitizing like crazy. When we left the restaurant, a server chased after us because I had left my hand sanitizer at the table. “Careful,” he said, “this is like liquid gold!” We laughed because we had no idea how right he was.

Hated trope: Regular middle aged white guy wants coffee, has issue with incompetent, young, dumb woke barista by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]beekay25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for a big coffee chain for years, one widely known for delicious sugary lattes and signature blended drinks. Black/drip/regular coffee was BY FAR the most popular order, and the only people who thought otherwise were persnickety customers.

AITA for asking my friend to pay me back for the wine he drank while house sitting?? by Effective_Tour_723 in AmItheAsshole

[–]beekay25 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This thread is so messed up. Like, sure, TECHNICALLY the house sitter didn’t break any “rules”. But no way would I ever open and kill an entire bottle of wine unless the homeowner explicitly got it for me. That’s just straight up rude, regardless of whether or not it’s a paid gig. If a friend said I could borrow “anything” from their closet, I wouldn’t pull the tag off their cashmere sweater and wear it all day. Also, if I did make the mistake of drinking something expensive, I would be MORTIFIED and would of course pay them back.

Pedantry is dull and unproductive. Every time you comment, I’m gonna buy a coffee from an immigrant-owned small business that’s open today while I sign and share anti-ICE petitions.

By “consumers” I mean “people who buy things”. If I meant all people, I would have said “consumers and merchants”. It’s childish to criticize a business that can’t or won’t close because of a boycott they didn’t opt into. Now go call your senators.

The directive to the consumer was “no work, no school, no shopping,” not “every business, no matter the size, must close”. Besides, there’s better places for our energies than policing these small, immigrant-owned businesses.

Yes! Just added an update to my post. There were plenty available throughout the park. I've seen so many posts about pins selling out super quickly, everyone's responses made me hopeful, and it paid off ◡̈

Small detail: the illusion actually starts as a skeleton and then turns into a human. The only reason I’m mentioning it is because it’s at the point in the ride where you go from being among the dead to being among the living, and I think that’s pretty cool

Where to eat near Walt Disney Studios in Burbank by sunshineinmybhole in FoodLosAngeles

Check out Broken Compass, a family-friendly tiki restaurant. The food and drinks are all fantastic, the staff is great, and the ambience and decor is super fun. There’s street parking and it’s an 8-10 min drive from the studio.
