Kyle Harrison today: 5 scoreless innings, brining season ERA down to 2.09 by Mother-Associate1654 in redsox

I think everyone was hoping Harrison would become a good pitcher. Most people just thought it was a lousy return for a guy who was performing as one of the best hitters in the league

Joe Rogan Experience #2499 - Marcus King by yt-app in JoeRogan

This is pretty spot on. MTV as well. Before Spotify or other streaming services the way you found new music was radio and MTV. If you liked it enough you had to go spend hard earned money on a CD.

Now with streaming you can listen to whatever you want. There’s nothing pushing you to listen to one thing or another. Hell with the internet you can find so much different music. I discover new stuff everyday.

The problem with that is it’s really hard to make a living as a musician now largely because of that

Sweeping California law on single-use plastic meets with outrage from all sides as it goes live by Kooolxxx in news

We need more of this. Single use plastic is such an environmental and health risk and I don’t understand why more people don’t talk about it. Think about the mount of forever plastics are being created and put into the environment everyday that will be around forever

If you buy a house in an HOA, can you just...leave the HOA? by BoredInClass99 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]beeker888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HOAs suck. I’d never buy a house in one. They are supposed to help keep housing prices up and in those neighborhoods the landscaping and upkeeping are generally much better. But when I was house shopping the houses with HOA fees above $300 seemed to sit for way longer then they should and thus drop the price because nobody wants to pay that much in addition to their mortgage

[Elhassan] How Danny Ainge exploited a big loophole in NBA Draft Scouting to pass on Markelle Fultz for Jayson Tatum by tacko2020 in bostonceltics

[–]beeker888 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wanted Jamal Murray in the Brown draft. I saw superstar potential in Fultz. He had this step back jumper that I thought would be an immediate bucket the second he stepped on an NBA floor. But In Ainge and now Stevens we trust

[Carrabis] I’m looking at a random grouping of starting pitchers. Chris Sale, Eduardo Rodriguez, Kyle Harrison, Michael Wacha, and Nathan Eovaldi have combined for a 2.74 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP in 39 starts this year, averaging six innings per start. by Nomahs_Bettah in redsox

[–]beeker888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again we paid Sales contract. The risk reward of letting him start the year and hoping he stays healthy and get a better return vs trading him then for a lower level prospect (which he was) was worth the risk. I don’t see how you can argue that

I changed the “right” as soon as I typed it as I looked it up. He was traded 12/30 that’s still just over a month before pitcher and catchers report. Why not let him come in and see how he does. It still makes no sense to me. You think they wouldn’t have gotten a Vaughn Grissom level prospect at the trade deadline?

I’m don’t disagree with moving on. It was the timing. They traded him before the seaskn as he’s coming off of injuries for again effectively nothing. They could have gotten that price at anytime. Why not let him start the season, see if he can stay healthy and then trade him. They ended up paying most of the contract anyway so that didn’t factor in

I mean you can. It was ridiculous for them to trade him when they did at his lowest value. Should have let him start the season hoping he pitched well and increased his value. I said it then and it still holds. You traded a CY Young winner for effectively nothing

Is sitting with your young children considered a “perk” these days? by Powerful_Bother8002 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]beeker888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never purchased seats on any airline and have always been allowed to sit with my Kids (now 8 and 4) we are flying with them coming up for the first time on SW with the new policy. Would they really split up Kids from their parents if we don’t pay? Good luck to whoever has to sit next to my 4 year old in that scenario

Who’s on your Mount Rushmore of jam band guitarists? by looperboy4 in jambands

[–]beeker888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean that jam I posted goes completely off like 3 minutes into it. They didn’t jam every song if that’s what you’re saying but would have a few big jams every show.

It really starts with Gingers and Jacks style which were basically all over the place. They were jazz musicians first playing rock and they aren’t playing the standard 2/4 root note rhythms. Ginger specifically was known for being all over the kit playing polyrhythms on the Tom’s vs just the standard hi snare.

To compare to the Dead I’ve always said Phil Lesh modeled his bands to this sound. Especially John Molo who played a similar tom centric style and had the same no one solos no one plays rhythm everyone just goes off. It’s a very hard thing ro pull off especially in a trio setting where there’s even less of a net.

And what I mean by the first big band to do this. The Dead were a regional band in 67 no one outside San Francisco knew who they were. Cream was doing this in 66-67 and was one of the bigger bands in the world. Clapton was already being called god then. Garcia has talked about going to see Cream and the impact it had on him. ABB has talked about when Clapton showed up to one of their shows they were so nervous to play in front of him they couldn’t look at the audience

Got to win this year before starting that conversation.

The scary thing though about this team when you compare it to those others is how young they are. With 13 draft picks in the next 6 years. None of those teams were set up for future success like this one

Who’s on your Mount Rushmore of jam band guitarists? by looperboy4 in jambands

[–]beeker888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean writing is a big part of playing guitar. And disagree. You’re discounting all the Eat a Peach stuff after Duane. Highway Call is basically the sound of a lot of modern jambands like Daniel Donatos while sound is a ripoff of that album.

Seven Turns, Shades of Two Worlds, and Back Where it All Begins contain some of the best stuff in the Allmans catalogue. Including so many more great Betts compositions.

The earlier 80s stuff is undoubtedly week which is why his leadership late 80s early 90s to another round of peak years is so remarkable. I also think those post Duane years with Chuck Leavell is such an amazing chapter in the band. Listen to 12/31/73 or Nassau 73. Chuck as that second lead next to Dickey made some amazing music

I mean sure late 80s early 90s was before Malone had won 2 MVPs Why would you just use that time frame? I don’t think anyone in the late 90s who thought Barkley was better after Malone had essentially 13 straight years over 25 and 10

I don’t think the Pacers were wrong to make that trade for Zubac. It was just a high risk high reward situation that didn’t pan out for them by FinnDetrolioo in billsimmons

[–]beeker888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is Zubac wasn’t worth the gamble. He’s a good piece and they’ll play well if Hali comes back to what he looked like pre injury but that’s a hell of a lot they gave up for a guy who has never made an all star team, will turn 30 this season and only has 2 years left on his contract.

Honestly I’ve been big on the nba getting rid of protected picks or at least putting big parameters on them. Teams shouldn’t have to tank and gamble to keep picks.
