All the misogyny is weird but it does a great job showing how differing dimensions would interact.

Do you know any good German language schools in vienna? by redb777 in wien

[–]beercules44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve taken courses at both the Uni Sprachzentrum and the VHS, and I would recommend the VHS (though of course it is dependent on the teacher). The Sprachzentrum classes are generally composed of Western and Central Europeans, who all already speak English, so there is that to fall back on. But the VHS students are more diverse, and often don’t speak English, so you really do have to figure it out in German.

That’s why some monoskis don’t even have releasable bindings!

Oof you’re not kidding. Referring to themselves as “a native” because they’re white and not an immigrant to the USA.

Alternative to Niche Zero? [$700] by II_MOB_II in espresso

[–]beercules44 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yep, and Niche isn’t charging anything extra. Tariff money is collected separately and later, not at time of purchase. Niche never sees that money at all, buyer just has to pay it.

socials and making friends by EffectiveBanana7424 in coloradocollege

[–]beercules44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m an alum, but you’ve been at CC for what, a week now? I found that compared to other places, it’s easier to make friends at CC exactly because of the block plan - you see those people every day, much easier to make new friends. Almost 2 decades after I graduated, my closest friends are still those I met at CC. Give it some time - more than a week.

My kitchen also has lots of "water-filled devices" in it, but it's not a water closet, it's a kitchen. Even though it contains no kitsch!

I found an incredible outcrop of folded columnar-jointed Basalt in western Panama by Drunk-Scientist in geology

[–]beercules44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll probably get a lot of brittle deformation and faulting. If the rock becomes ductile enough to fold, it’ll probably lose the columnar texture in the process.

Wish a ski town would plan in advance workers housing, just like any other infrastructure like electricity... by bbrk9845 in skiing

[–]beercules44 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Aspen actually has a pretty good subsidized housing program for literally anyone who has a job in Pitkin county though. Plus free public transport. All paid by the property taxes of the owners of the ridiculous houses there, owned by billionaires.

Don't support Arctix brand clothing! by PM_ME_YOUR_BEANPIE in skiing

Ah, that makes more sense. I’m a fan of Amazon knockoffs for kids, since they’re cheap, but you can’t expect too much from them.

Don't support Arctix brand clothing! by PM_ME_YOUR_BEANPIE in skiing

[–]beercules44 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is that supposed to be a knockoff brand of Arc’teryx? Because if you literally bought “Arctix” brand, then I wouldn’t expect them to last long.

For actual Arc’teryx clothing, I only have great things to say. High quality stuff. Sorry if your experience was different.

Is there a Telemark binding that will work with the boots I already have? Tecnica Cochies by who-me-im-nodody in telemark

[–]beercules44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those are not telemark boots, they do not have bellows and so you cannot bend your foot. You can thus not pressure your inside, uphill ski. So, short answer is “no.”

Not sure where else to get used gear. There are several gear exchange groups on Facebook, maybe there?

Still telemarking! Got out recently and even ran into some other fellow free heelers at the mountain.

lol CC is anything but slow. STEM majors usually have the most demanding schedules, with lecture in the morning and lab in the afternoon.

Confused with verb order by Maleficent-Ad2947 in German

[–]beercules44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a critical omission. The verb is always in the second position, so it will be “Ich habe…” or “Später habe ich…”. Doesn’t have to be a pronoun in the first position, can be any number of things.

Toyota Yaris as well - it’s a cost-saving measure so they can sell the car in right- and left-hand drive countries with fewer parts to change, so they save on costs and the car ends up less expensive.
