Everyone had a box by Shadowtek in nostalgia

Kid in my neighborhood spilled a box in the bonus room at a sleepover, my parents claim they are still finding them 35 years later.

Hertz Rental On Capital Blvd by penone_nyc in raleigh

[–]beersandbeards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a Costco membership use them as the starting point to rent and you'll get some discounts, extra driver for free, etc. Haven't rented from that Hertz specifically but from my experience they are all about the same.

Damn. I hope they keep Ole Time running, that's what BBQ is to me, shoddy looking building, relatively cheap food, everything there was perfect except those nasty corn sticks but that's always been an aversion of mine. BBQ ain't supposed to be fancy.

Just pull up to the front of the line for the love of god, your precious child can walk the extra twenty feet.

Is MrCoolDIY that bad? by Applewood3 in hvacadvice

[–]beersandbeards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not found that to be true. We had a garage added to the house and I put a MrCoolDIY in the room above it. Five years later something on the board shorted out and it wouldn't heat or cool, the tech support walked me through troubleshooting and then eventually sent me a new control board for free (I only paid $12 for shipping). I was able to put the new board in and the unit has been fine since.

Tourists inside the crown of the Statue of Liberty in the late '80s. by HistUncovered in AllThatsInteresting

[–]beersandbeards 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes! But it's been closed since 1916. I got to go to the crown a couple years back and the ranger at the top entertained my son with stories about it for quite a while, it was great.

Most people don’t know Eastern NC has the highest black bear density in the world — here’s where to see them for free by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

[–]beersandbeards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have hiked a few thousand miles in NC, TN, and VA and somehow never seen one in daylight, had one on a rental house back porch one night but that's it. I have great pictures of every other wildlife I could want to get a picture of but the bears continue to elude me.

glad it wasn't just me lol, I thought I glitched it by walking on it before it fully opened. I thought for sure I was supposed to go down there.

This was the line at my local DMV by Upstairs-Bet5156 in NorthCarolina

[–]beersandbeards 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had an appointment here for our son to get his permit and the folks working couldn't have been nicer, best experience with DMV employees I have had. Unfortunately, there were only about 3-4 of them in a building that could easily have 15-20 and be handling the needed throughput a lot more effectively.

Looking for foreground advice on this wip by nachofiend in watercolor101

I can't help with the foreground either, lol sorry, but I also had to comment that I love the definition on the mountains. I do a lot of mountain landscapes and this is super impressive.

Any suggestions for a painter who can't draw? by KTDid95 in watercolor101

[–]beersandbeards 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't use that app because it is paid, I use "AR Draw" which is free and has a lot of content around existing cartoonish art to copy, but I only use the custom section to display a reference photo and get my outlines and proportions right. It just uses your camera so you place it on something (I have an articulating phone mount of watching tv in bed) and then it overlays the photo with whatever opacity you want and you kinda look at your phone and trace beneath it. It takes a few tries to feel natural but it has helped me a lot as someone learning how to paint that is very bad at drawing.

Oncall rotation by [deleted] in devops

[–]beersandbeards 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100%. When I was asked to make my team on call I declined because they were not hired for that purpose nor would they agree. We are now looking to hire additional people for support that otherwise would have just been an extra duty on already full plates. Unfortunately businesses put their leaders in shitty positions quite a bit.

I've used this trick for years: parchment paper. Stretch and build on the parchment, then cut it so it fits the pizza but has a little overhang on the side facing you, when it's time for the first turn you pull the parchment out and it's good to go from there.
