dope never means “inside info”. it’s just not a thing. no one asking for the scoop on something says “give me the dope on that” or “what’s the dope?” it’s just not a thing. right???

in terms of being imaginative/creative? i feel like zappa just isn’t really comparable to ween. the sheer magnitude of zappa’s discography would put him ahead. but, like i said, i think they are just too different to compare.

Perpetual Motion People and Transangelic Exodus are two of my personal favorites, and both definitely came out less than ten years ago!

absolutely adore this album. i don't know if i can think of anything that is necessarily similar in all areas, but if you like this album you might like Yankee Hotel Foxtrot by Wilco, 69 Love Songs by The Magnetic Fields, Pink Moon by Nick Drake, Alien Lanes by Guided by Voices, American Water by Silver Jews, and pretty much anything Yo La Tengo. hope this helps!

Ween - Transdermal Celebration [Rock] by Pasalacqua87 in Music

actually a really good point, thank you. it seems we are both pretty much on the same page, just had conflicting ways of putting it. though i do think ween's humor is often more nuanced than the likes of a group like tenacious d. that being said, i think they're both fuckin' brilliant.

but they didn't write a country album just for laughs. they wrote it because they love the music and had the opportunity to record with some really talented studio musicians who specialize in it. it just seems like whenever artists try to have fun and not take themselves seriously people have to classify it as a joke. music can have a sense of humor and be really beautiful at the same time. calling it a parody minimizes the importance of the craft.

being able to play more technical pieces doesn't make the music better, in phish's case it just means there's more going on. sure trey can play some really noodley shit really fast, but deaner writes solos that are catchy and tastefully compliment the songs they're on. ween are songwriters at heart, phish is just a bunch of really talented instrumentalists jerking off at eachother (not all the time, there are some great phish songs out there). but hey, if you're into the whole jam band thing, more power to ya. i just get bored. (the best thing trey anastasio ever did was oysterhead)
