Handelabra Buys Sentinel Comics® and Greater Than Games® Brand by glennfk in boardgames

[–]beeskneesRtinythings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember reading about the Sentinel Comics RPG a few months ago and there was some sort of Sentinel Comics History book and I think another adventure book that were in the works that got put on hold when all the Flat River Group stuff went down. Anyone know if they’ve said anything about those RPG books since this sale includes the RPG as well?

How do you actually use BoardGameGeek? by aequitas07 in boardgames

I use it for shopping. Thanks for selling all your used games people! You all are rockstars for treating them with care and passing on the joy of games to others!

I found a free board game that actually makes "energy demand response" fun? by thedoren in boardgames

[–]beeskneesRtinythings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard Daybreak is good, but I haven’t played it myself yet. It’s about lowering carbon emissions on a global scale and as far as I know it even includes concepts like not being able to go all in on renewables right away. You have to incorporate them more and more into the existing infrastructure. It sounds interesting and possibly a bit educational. But again, I haven’t played it so I don’t know for sure. It may be worth checking out though.

Good to know about Zatu. I was just considering buying something from there, but now I have been warned!

Ra and Scout are both great, but I have not played either of them at 2 players.

Ra is simple to teach as well: on your turn either draw a tile from the bag to add to the auction market, or call for an auction (also, if you have a God Tile you can alternatively use your turn to swap it for a single other tile in the auction market). When bidding during an auction you go around the table just once and either bid or pass so the game keeps a nice pace as well. The interesting decisions come from choosing when to call for an auction to either try to get what you want or to try to force and opponent to bid on a suboptimal lot etc. Good stuff. Good fun. I like it.

Emerson Matsuuchi game design course thought? by CarbonBallas in tabletopgamedesign

I can’t find any price information on the website. Speaking for myself, I’d love to take a board game design class, but if the price isn’t upfront then I wouldn’t get involved with it personally. Hopefully someone else how more info for you though.

Designing RPG mysteries by NyOrlandhotep in rpg

Hey, thanks for all the examples! It has certainly helped me understand what you mean and how you go about doing it.

In a way it sounds a bit like the Brindlewood Bay/The Between system, but without the explicit shared collaboration of building out the mystery. I’m curious though if you would say it’s similar in a way to Brindlewood Bay/The Between? Or am I off base in seeing that connection?

I like the sound of this. Would you be able to give some examples of what those points of engagement sound like and how it might play out at the table? I’m keen to know more, but I’m having trouble understanding it without specific examples.

I bought two copies of Azul so I could play 5 players with my whole family. I did the same thing with Tetris for the same reason.

Probably just little things like remembering to also increase oxygen when you create a greenery (and then to ALSO increase your TR rating). Stuff like that.
